>500GB SSD external hard drive is only $10 less than 1TB
What the fuck? I only need 500GB. Why are they like this? What went wrong with SSD technology?
>>
then just get 500GB, that's your problem
>Sandisk
nevermind, you don't have 500GB
>>
>>100162268
Just get 500GB dumbfuck.
Why are you even complaining
>>

Just get 1TB dumbfuck.

get the 4tb, genius

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/08/sandisk-extreme-ssds-are-still-wiping-data-after-firmware-fix-users-say/
>>
>>100162349
Evidently OP is complaining that the price is not proportional to the storage space, which is the biggest value factor for a drive.
>>
>>100162550
OP doesn't understand fixed cost, it seems.
>>
>>100162268
>I only NEE-
Just buy the 1TB one you fucking mong. Who genuinely gives a fuck? Why are you so autistic you won't just buy the 1TB one when it's clearly he better deal and the cost difference is less than your lunch?
>>
>>100162268
Have you never been to a fast food restaurant? That's how marketing works, the large meal is only slightly more expensive than the small meal in order to make it look like you're getting a better deal so you pay more money.
>>
QRD on the sandisk thing? I'm new to this.

AVOID!
>>
>>100162550
Well. He's retarded either way. 500GB is cheaper. He either buys it or not. Simple as
>>
>>100162598
This is also beyond retarded.
This is exactly what they want you to do, you are falling right into their trap.
The winning move is not to play
>>
>>100162676
>food analogy
classic mutt
>>
>>100162951
sometimes their "trap" is the more optimal
actually falling into their trap would be buying the 500gb ssd thats 40% overpriced
>>
>>100162268
>Why are they like this?
Because most customers aren't rational creatures and easily fall for even the most obvious psychological tricks, like thinking that they're paying a fair price for a product simply because it's placed next to a similar but clearly unfairly priced product.
Just look at all the NPCs in this very thread ravenously attacking you for daring to object to such an barefaced scam. If you want to blame someone, blame them.
>>
>>100162951
Yeah, the "trap" of spending $100 on 1TB versus $90 for half that space. Retard.
>>
>>100163031
Bruh
No matter if it's 500gb or 1tb, it still costs to make the damn thing
It's why low capacity HDDs are such bad value compared to larger ones. Making an HDD even with just one platter costs alot on its own. Adding more platters isn't much more expensive
>>
>>100163121
>it still costs to make the damn thing
Ah yes, indisputable proof that the cost is fairly reflected in the price, which would mean that higher sizes would have a similar base price and scaling since adding more platters "isn't much more expensive."
Oh wait, that isn't the case at all, and psychologically manipulative pricing is a well documented reality.
What an incredibly obvious thing to anyone capable of independent thought.
>>
There is other components than just the memory
>>100162349
Retard, if he gets double for $10 he must do it. Not doing it would be a reddit move. They are not even 500GB they are like 465GB with 25GB not usable partition.
>>
fucking subhumans. Here is a 500GB drive for $48 instead of $90. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093HFYLNJ?tag=synack-20&linkCode=osi&th=1 . How did I find a drive that is HALF the money? https://diskprices.com/ . Stop being subhuman NPCs. Literally HALF the cost is "such bad value" . Fucking zoomer dumbasses can't do fucking 12 seconds of googling to fact check their idiot retarded asses.

It is positively amazing how so many people here are able to post with such confidence regarding things they don't know a fucking thing about. I looked up this exact product on amazon. The 1TB is $130 normally, and is on sale, making it barely more costly than the 500GB. There's your base manufacture cost plus additional fees per capacity, dipshit.
>>
>>100163703
It says 60 pounds which is like 70 dollarydoos. And WD is not what OP had in mind

I bought one of those metal 32gb sand disk usb drives and it broke the first time I used it. and the process to warranty it wasn't worth the $8 it cost.

Scroll up retard. I guess paying 2x retard tax is modern and hip. lmao.

they're literally the same company
>>
>>100163992
who and what is the same company? the fuck are you on about?
>>
>>100162268
People started to realize that SSDs can act like RAM so prices have been artifically inflated to match the demand. Simple economics.

That said most people don't understand that SATA fucking blows as a RAM substitute.
>>
BTW I'm not saying physical RAM and an SSD are comparable to each other. You get punished for using your SSD as RAM. It's just that manufacturers are able to get away with selling 8GB RAM computers in 2024 because this is possible.
>>
>>100163756
>BUTWHATABOUT
The topic of discussion is the cost between 500GB and 1TB SANDISK external SSDs, specifically.
>B-BUT OTHER BRAND
Irrelevant to the discussion.
>>
>>100162268
There are many marketing explanations blah blah but most likely it's that 1tb sells >50% of the drives and so that is what is manufactured at the highest rate. 1TB drives are therefore cheaper for them to make than others with lower volume. The drives themselves are probably a small percentage of the cost after case, packaging, shipping, marketing etc
>>
>>100162268
>Buying external drive at all.
USB transfer speed is too big of a bottleneck.
>>
>>100163723
Holy shit you're genuinely retarded. I don't even know how to correct you since you failed to understand the post you're replying to, but here's my best shot:
Do the math on the prices for the 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB in your pic. If the price is base cost + additional fees for additional storage, then grade school algebra will let you solve for what exactly the base fee and additional fee per GB increased is.
>There's your base manufacture cost plus additional fees per capacity, dipshit.
God what an embarrassing line considering how I'm walking you through this. I really hope you're a bot.
>>
>>100162268
If $10 really is a big deal for you, then I suspect you shouldn't be buying one at all.
>>
It's simple. There's a cost floor to the product, it includes all the materials and machining costs that are the same for all the drives. Then they add the cost for the extra flash storage, in this case going from 500gb to 1tb likely isn't much difference in BoM costs
>>
>>100162268
>>100166716
It's fluctuations of the market, you shut-in dumbasses: https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08GTXVG9P?context=search

Touch grass. Right now.

>>100163805
I feel sorry for consooooomers and wasteful users like you.

>t. has his entire life on a 40GB flash drive
>>
>>100163071
4chinz NPCs are very retarded.
I was having a similar discussion with another retard last year, again with not wanting to spend $10-15 for double the space or something when already spending $100 or so, just incomprehensibly retarded.

On another occasion, some giga-retard was convincing anons to buy chinkshit flash drives that only last months to avoid being wasteful with surplus terabytes on quality brand flash drives.
So what if you only need 2GB and a decent, cheap Lexar gives you 32GB? No, they have to go for the 4GB no-name chinkshit that dies after a few months that costs slightly less to avoid wasting space. I'd get the Lexar, that'll last several years for sure. Save money in the long run by a wide margin. Just incomprehensibly retarded.
