Why is monitor display tech so garbage and stagnant?
You have 3 realistic options:
1: settle for LCD tech: pick your poison
>TN: great motion, mediocre contrast, awful colors and uniformity due to atrocious vertical viewing angles/gamma shift
>IPS: good to great motion, good colors, horrible contrast, ips glow and horrid backlight blur = dogshit low light uniformity
>VA: shit black smear and mediocre response times, good contrast, good colors, but color uniformity dogshit, absolutely atrocious horizontal viewing angles (memecurve to alleviate this)
>mini LED adds lag and blooming especially with IPS
2: OLED
>great motion and response time, great colors, perfect contrast, perfect per-pixel HDR
>text rendering issues and not meant for desktop use in general, you WILL get burn in if used as such
>costs $1000+ for a decent 4k with good refresh rate and you will have to replace it every few years at best
3: CRT
>hard to find and they dont make them anymore
>best motion
>analog only
>fucking expensive if you want a good one
>will probably blow up shortly after you buy one since they're all 15+ years old at this point

Wat do
>>
you forgot the part where crt blasts your face and eyes with radiation and degrades your eyesight even faster

LCD and CRT aren't even worth pursuing anymore. OLED is the only real option. Just about all OLED manufacturers offer lengthy burn in warranties now because they're confident in their anti retention techniques. Just keep swapping them out as needed until we get burn in resistant microLED/GaNLED/self emissive quantum dot displays.

The tubes are lined with lead to prevent that from happening.
There are laser phosphor displays which, instead of shooting electrons at phosphors, use lasers instead. AFAIK only a single company called Prysm makes them and they are only used for conference walls and shit. Pretty lame, but the tech seems very promising.

the 4k/refresh rate problem is even bigger with CRT than it is with OLED

Explain. The beauty of CRT is that it doesn't need ridiculous resolution or refresh rates to deliver high quality results. At the same resolution, CRTs will look much cleaner. At the same refresh rate, CRTs absolutely blow LCDs and even OLED out of the water. Such a huge fucking blunder dropping an objectively superior technology for the sake of office wageslaving.

IPS. Contrast is a meme because it doesn't matter unless you're in a pitch black viewing environment.
