first of all, since you do need AI for one specific task (brainstorming dialogues) then you don't need to purchase full-on Kayra's version (Opus, 25$). you can go fine with mid-tier (Scroll, 15$, context 6k) and low-tier (Tablet, 10$, context 3k)one big advantage of Kayra over chatGPT, GPT4, Claude - is a huge amount of sampling options and biases. sampling allow you to control how you text will be generated: in terms of text repetition and coherence. you have more control over creativity of text than other models will ever provide you. for anyone considering switching to novelaibefore we start, this is purely from my own experience! and i used to use chat gpt-3.5 + claude, currently using kayra on an opus subscription if that's any help. <3oh my god where do i begin. novelai is FAR better then i expected. i was a little skeptical at first since gpt is considered the "greatest" writing tool out there at the moment- but when i tried novel that all flipped on its head.the writing is immaculate, and imo far better than gpt-3.5. you do have to fiddle with the settings a bit to make the ai more coherent and smooth but once you've got that done with it's genuinely beyond words with how good it is.the ai doesn't cut corners, it doesn't avoid any certain topics, and it won't randomly end your chat unlike chatgpt. and even better- it's COMPLETELY uncensored! you could write a story on the most taboo, toe curling, morally wrong plot that would make even god himself sob and the ai would be up for it. along with that the little hype bots cheer you along the way which i think is adorable.and don't even get me started on the lorebooks they are SO helpful. don't want to write all of your character descriptions/story settings/side characters, etc in one huge blob of a paragraph? well that's what the lorebook is for baby! it even lets you add these little trigger thingies (i forgot the name) so whenever you type a certain phrase that character will automatically introduce themselves into the story! you can even customize how long the ai output is (which i find is incredibly helpful in story writing), story memory, prompt, etc! and the token memory on this thing is absolutely amazing.i only made the switch a few days ago and still have lots to learn, but by god was it worth it. i genuinely can't recommend novel enough it's quite literally my favourite hobby at this point. <3

I was using 4k turbo primarily until I got the oai loveletter. 8k opus kayra with about the same price as my combined turbo/gpt-4 usage and felt pretty good about it, just wrote small scenes. 8k still feels roomy to me. Used pygmalion-2-7b a bit earlier (the one last updated on Jan 12), and, honestly, I had better results than any model I've used in several months. No repetition, followed the card (but not too closely), never spoke for me, no GPT-isms, no re-rolls. It was a slow burn, too, which is something I've been struggling to get out of recent models. A nice break from the constant jank of Mixtral and Yi based models.No, I'm not trolling. Ever since Llama 2 launched, I've been having a declining experience with local models. My theory is that something is being sacrificed for the added context.

the original pygmalion 6b was the best in it's class in a time where local models (especially the 7B ones) couldn't even rometly roleplay. I started getting into LLM with pygmalion 6B and it was better than every other LLM at that time. With the leak of llama1 this changed and there really wasn't a reason to continue with pygmalion6b. And no I never wanted to try out the corpo shit, there was ChatGPT 3.5 which wasn't censored much but locally there wasn't a better option than pygmalion.

The Pygmalion-6B model still takes about 1 second/token on a modern fast CPU, and often longer than that. You'd need a lot of patience for a good RP session. Alternatively, you could use a smaller model (e.g. 2.7B), but with worse results and coherency.
