Debian if you just want a stable working system
Fedora if you want good defaults and modern packages at the cost of some stability/bugs
Arch if you want to tinker and is fine risking breaking the system

SUSE Leap for a sort-of-debian-like experience and Tumbleweed for a sort-of-arch-like experience.

All other distros are pretty much a meme, maybe save for NixOS and Gentoo which exist for a purpose, but mainly fit the same role as Arch.
