The self learning is the easy part. Get your sec+ first of course.

The hard and stupid part about sec is everyone wants 5+ years experience for entry level jobs.

My advice is, look for sec jobs based around writing policies and procedures. That's a good entry point. They're like the janitor level of sec jobs.

I got a shelve for the PC. I did this for a number of reasons, but mostly so I could have somewhere better to keep my camera, than on the shelf to the left of my desk, which was annoying to get to. I also need longer cables for pretty much everything now.

Not as a power button, no. But it can be remapped to other shit with adapters.
>also do you get delay if you cheap out on adb converters?
In that pic I had a Wombat ADB adapter, which is okay but has a tedious system for flashing new remappings. It does feel like there's some noticeable delay, even with overclocking the USB polling rate. Not badly enough to ruin typing (though the 2-key rollover of the keyboard is brutal), but bad enough to not be ideal for games. I've got a DrakWare adapter coming today(?) and I'll see how that does.

It’s an OWC Mercury pro, it’s just a general nicer housing.
They sell it in bundles but I got it with a different LG drive for faster CD reads since all I do with it is rip cds.
It’s decent, I think it’s worth the added cost over the cheaper housings, it’s extruded aluminum and has solid mounting snd vibration isolation.

it's a 2 node proxmox cluster
>>
>>100186901
what does that mean exactly? my understanding is proxmox is a hypervisor. So you can have multiple VMs running on a server and access those. Is that your server on the right behind the monitor? What does the 2nd node do?
>>
>>100186951
it's LXC Containers, like docker but different. you can move the containers between the nodes. Also, you can replicate containers every X minutes or hours to the other node. so that if you use HighAvalability and one nodes dies, the other takes over and keeps the containers running. But if you have only 2 nodes, you need a QDevice for quorum, which is in my case a Raspberry Pi

>>
>>100187129
>so each node (thinkpad thinclient) runs the same instance in case one fails?
pretty much, it holds back a cached version of the container, that takes over if one node is down. I access this thinclients just via ssh or webinterface. I just needed to hook up keyboard and mouse while installing, rest can be trough LAN + SSH + Webinterface
>>
>>100187156
still new to all this, so all the processing power and your peripherals are hooked up the tower behind your monitor on the right and the thin clients just maintain the current state for the VMs you are accessing? the thin clients themselves don't have much processing power right?

or do you use just run less resource intensive programs on the thin clients and the tower is the host you acess the vms from? Sorry for the multiple and probably retarded questions. Coworker at work this week mentioned proxmox offhand when I said I would like to get a setup at home so I could have windows and linux open at the same time and use the same keyboard/mouse for both.

no, behind the right Monitor is a JBod Disc Enclosure hooked on a raspberry pi that functions as qdevice and NAS. The peripherals are connected to my Tower PC Underneath my Desk
>the thin clients themselves don't have much processing power right?
Well yes, they perform like 6th gen laptop CPUs
>do you use just run less resource intensive programs on the thin clients and the tower is the host you acess the vms from?
Every container you see on the proxmox screenshot is hosted on these 2 thinclients

Thanks for sharing, GPU pass through looks pretty complicated. I may have to just settle for dual booting or linux in a vm on windows. Found a cool video on using cheap thin clients to make a proxmox cluster and will try that out. Seems more efficient than trying to run different services on a bunch of pi's.

Glad to have inspired you in some way, I suppose. Gonna also get a stand for your TV to store a console underneath?
>You got the same mouse I want too
It's pretty good, but I'm not a pro level gamer when it comes to KBM games, so I can't speak to the minutia of it. I will say, though, if you liked the weighty metal wheel of previous G502s, you'll be disappointed here due to the wheel being plastic. At least it also means the wheel won't tarnish after three attoseconds of exposure to human skin.
>Commenting again to say, I got a small CRT tv now too. Has a VCR built in and I got a couple of movies from a local thrift store and its been kino as fuck.
God that sounds comfy, can't remember the last time I watched VHS (never mind on a CRT). What manufacturer is it? Does it seem like a decent tube?
>Don't have the space to spread my wings the way I want to just yet, but things are ultimately coming together slowly but surely.
Best of luck, it's immensely satisfying once you've reached a point where you've made your battlestation distinctly "yours".
>>
>>100191789
Yeah I'm gonna get a small table too so I can have a similar setup but it'll need to be a little more bulky just because my monkey brain still thinks "CRT = heavy as fuck" even though this thing is like 20 pounds at most. Its an Emerson VT0952 with a handle built into the top so its super easy to move around. I was looking at a different one that had a smaller footprint but I got this one for like $50 so I couldn't pass it up. I can't comment on the tube quality because its the only CRT I've owned since the late 2000's when I swapped to a plasma. But it does what I want it to. No remote though unfortunately because I want an authentic one instead of a universal stand-in but they're like $20 by themselves. Waiting to have free money to just throw away on it.

The plastic wheel on the mouse sounds disappointing, but I've slightly modded a mouse before and I have a spare G502 so I might be able to Frankenstein something together. Or I can just suck it up and deal with it lol.

>I'm a recovering alcoholic. Am I based?
Addiction, especially related to drugs or alcohol, is cringe. A man who falls for the allure of alcohol or drugs and lets them control his life, for the worse, is a weak faggot. Simple as.

I respect your path to recovery, but an addict will always be an addict.

You're back. You remind me a bit of myself, let me tell you how I imagine you: You're probably well employed so you have a lot of money. Also helps that you don't have to spend it on any friends or girlfriend, which you probably don't have. You're trying hard to go for some aesthetic and you're OCD-isly looking through your choices but you will not be satisfied. The empty look is not a stylistic choice, it reflects the lack of you going out with others. I remember when you used some radiation meter shit to measure your mouse radiation. Your loneliness is way more harmful to you than whatever that was.

What's the most important is the length size. If you know what I mean. If you want to put CRTs on this, it won't do it, take something simple but wide so you can put things comfortably. Standing desks are great but I don't play all day with mine, you can get a good one for 400-500 eurodollars.

I was mostly joking about the sex thing but there are ways to make money from your desk if you're willing to buy a few more things while working to build a following on some platform. That can apply to sfw as well as nsfw avenues

sfw
>look into #deskgram on instagram/tiktok
>build up a office lifestyle account and grow your following, share tips or whatever
>get a decent enough following and companies will pay you as a mico-influencer to feature their products on your feed
>companies will send you products to test and review
>make a blog and/or yt channel about your gear, desk productivity, etc and monetize
>since you already have colleagues that are familiar with your setup it's easy to start building followers by sending them your links
>after you build up a rep, charge locals to pimp out their home office for them
inspiration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqv_5XnPp60
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkDWavsEj1s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPCexNhxP8o
Instagram: @minimalsetups @inspiredhomeofficedesigns @home_office_

slightly nsfw or just a bit sketchy
>there are nonude OF accounts where it's just people doing normal activities
>this can also tie into the sfw strategy above but some employers might not like it
>downside: still need to put in work building a following off-site

nsfw
>hide identity by wearing a mask and long sleeve shirt and/or use clever camera angles
>probably need alternatives to everything in your daily desk setup so that no one reverse image searches that shit
>look up samantha_sissy_world on videos and reddit
>it's a guy (not tranny) who wears a mask, wig and latex breast top and clever editing to hide the straps
>only in the older videos he wears a mask to hide his identity
>so it's a fit guy with 'boobs' just writhing in bed or in front of the pc

Sadly I'm a poor salesman and I can't shill products I don't personally use or support. It's not an ethical thing, I just don't think I can do product placement if I myself haven't determined it's the product for me to use.

However dang you have actually put thought into this. I dont know anything about aesthetics and am a terrible gay. My fashion sense is "PAT", and the only hobbies I really have are snapshit photography and maintaining vintage Japanese cars and bikes. I'm still not really sure I'm camera worthy material to be honest but it's something to think About. Money is money, and more generally helps.

Like I said, one avenue is to make product review videos. You get paid to give your honest reviews and send back what you don't want. They will send you the products they want reviewed.
If you don't like being in front of the camera then you can shoot POV style. Everything else you can learn on yt.

it is comfy to lean back in full recline, and when i do i'll put my feet up on the desk like when im taking a work call. but my biggest gripe is it doesn't raise up high enough for me to sit comfortably at the desk with my rudder pedals when simming. the arm rests dont go up high enough either to match the desk height

service manuals for electronics i find in the trash, homework, citizen related paperwork like taxes, gluing prints to steel pieces for cutting, gun targets, survival guides, maps and books that i dont want to be ordered to my doorstep. i got that thing for 50 bucks refurbished, it can print out two sides, 40 pages/min in monochrome. works great, though i feel like the imager is starting to fail.

i vape, smoke cigs, cigars and weed, its what i do 90% of my time, the box with a fan in it is for filtering all the smoke so it doesnt smell up my neighbors. there are no cockroaches or other pestilence because i keep a healthy biome of different beneficial insects in my house, they tend to stay away from my desk because of tobacco leafs. i got fruitflies once but that because i was seriously neglecting shit and i killed them all anyway with strong industrial poison.
