>>100185197working man's distrothx, it's still unfinished
>>100185050Nigga, how bash script can be deprecated? It just werks. Also fastfetch is gay, because it can't simply display one entry, e.g 'neofetch packages'.
I dont use neofetch
>>100185050Is that the one with the tranisch colors and flags?

>>100188147man this laptop in the start, nothing would werk full of bios errors. only tuxedo os and ubuntu would install in the startbut comfy been awhile since I had a proper comfy laptop, and actual desktop replacement. Too loud when using the gpu thoughbut is decent
>>100185828jesus, your installation is old as fuck>>100188194I wish eGPUs were a thing :(
>>100185015how's devuan these days?.. I daily drove it 6-ish years ago.. lots of problems then
>>100188228the fuck is kgx terminal? is it any better than gnome terminal?
>>100188241It is the default gnome terminal. https://apps.gnome.org/Console/
>>100188252never saw it as kgx, I always seen "gnome-terminal"
just a proxy
>>100188310that's a bit overkill, why not use more hardware via Jails?
>>100184883I'll participate in your datamining thread.
>>100188339it's just my proxy thing and I have installed a vm on it even actually, for some reason it's a proxy really an old laptop
>>100188365most of you are using plasma, I just can't stand ittbqh I'm surprised to not see more hyprland, dwl, dwm or i3 lolman I've used them alot but I come home to cinnamon for some reason
>>100184883doing a clean install of Ubuntu 24.04, been running 22.04 since it launched. Been running Ubuntu since 2014 and haven't needed anything else.
>>100188459why? Plasma is amazing!>stop liking what I hatebruh go away

nobody installed redstar os and post neofetchvery dissapoint, they just made this new cringe songhttps://twitter.com/OliLondonTV/status/1783576228693213674man is over 10 years ago now when people got hands on this os and analyzed.. omg each time you send someone ie an image it adds this fingerprint at the end of the file to trace back
>>100188685I did a clean install, wanted everything nice and fresh.
>>100188685Very nice.
>>100188705can you even install neofetch on redstar?
>>100188706>>100188685>willingly using jewbuntu
>>100188724isn't it ubuntu? I forget man, ubuntu or something but with malwarethese austrian or german students analyzed it when it got leaked... but it should work just fine, prolly aid somefinger print in some corny file somewhere on the system that might cause ... I never looked at it>>100188706yaru.. so is damn comfy previous version, hw problems here new shit, but ubuntu werked so my whole shit in gentoo is just ripped off ubuntu shit in cinnamon, because is so damn comfyand thart menu crap... look were nothing okay gentoo sucks in theming....
>>100188724Why wouldn't you be able to install neofetch on redstar?
>>100188752That's my work server not my personal machine. When I set it up in 2020 I wanted to use Debian but I had issues with the Intel graphics driver not working on stable so I said fuck it and went with Ubuntu instead. I was under a lot of pressure to get it up and running fast. Even though it's at my work I ssh into it and use it like I own it. This is my personal server I use for hosting various things. Weak I know but it does everything I need it to do and is on a gbit line.
>>100188724wait a minute what source repository they are allowed?.... ooh that on the other hand... prolly not>You are running RedStar!>The best os in the world>On the best hardware>Japan and USA cry to innovation and superiorty of native made korean best in the world computers and operating system
>>100188752I have no reason to use anything else.
>>100188843What do you mean you have no reason to? Are you a cuckold?
>>100188810If it works for you then it's good enough anon.
>>100188810Very nice x2.
>>100188752the meme is fucking true, it just werksc'mon kernel 6.5.. is not dinosaur slow, like in >hahaha you know who used that kernel?>My grandpa before he tried to discover the south pole
>>100188858Still waiting for that reason, it just works, fast, stable, has all the apps I want and need.
>>100188858>jew>cuckGo be a stupid faggot somewhere else. >>>/pol/
>>100188043why not. I'm le epic hekkin arch user and i even piped neofetch to lolcat.
>>100188939Well, if respect and dignity doesn't matter to you then I have nothing to say. You are better off using Windows if that's the case.
>>100188983Honest question, why would you use gentoo. Shit takes ages to update.
>>100188956I don't know how to use Windows. My dad installed Ubuntu on our machines growing up. I build my own PCs now and just use Ubuntu. I am 30 and have never used anything else. I don't even use the terminal. I know how to install neofetch in it, but outside of that I have never touched the terminal. You do you, but I am happy with Ubuntu.
>>100189005I update once a week and do it before going to bed and even if I didn't it's not like the machine is unusable while updating. I only have this machine doing everything so it never restarts unless there is a new kernel or I change something in the kernel. Router and servers are running in VMs.
>>100188983dwmmy negro, I almost want to relog hehis the only of of those tiling manager I've actually set up properly. why not dwl though? in these wayland tymussomething something polybar something something.. no you have wayland-polaybar.. something else with dwl
>>100189013Does your dad also rape you while you sleep?
>>100189034Well the reason why I don't use dwl is that there is no reason for me to run Wayland since 90% of applications are running in X trough Wayland either way. If they ever make real HDR support in Wayland I will switch.
>>100189057no nvidia, so I jumped to dwl on this laptop because this tearing it hurts your eyes so muchwith evenglican wayland idiots this was supposedlty to be x's faul.. and wayland was the saviour.. had to test itfalse, fake false and more false and fakeis nvidia all along. dwl didn't save it, hyprland didn't save it.. it's an nvidia issue. is better now but still terrible, I don't think I will ever again have an nvidia card in my main after this, they frankly belong in server halls at this pointyou can't use this shit as a dailydriver....
>>100189035How would I know? I was asleep. Ubuntu just works friend, you should try it.
>>100189195I agree, nVidia is a fucking joke. I refuse to use them after all the retarded issues I've had to deal with at work with their """enterprise""" cards. With AMD the TearFree (or whatever it's called) option solved 99% of the tearing for me.
>>100189238talk to me after August when AMD releases a rehashed Radeon 7000 card as the 8000 card that performs exactly the same and the RTX 5080 and 5090 are released with GDDR7.
>>100189238I even bought a new display ooh maybe wayland shills have right.. is something wrong with my old trusty (is this display I had same as from my previous jobs) oh that will fix>aah my eyes my eyes.... I am surprised non have suded nvidia seriously for fucked up vision after their bullshit drivers. I am pissed as fuck if I was in californjajaja right now I would suebut alas I am in a kingdom with no rights...
whatch a movie or whatever panning in 60hz, 160hz or 240 wha3ever >ooh is so nicce you just need a new monitorwhy is it out of nowhere it tares out your entire eyesnope that didn't fix itnope wayland shills just lienope I am no expert in xnope and they all lie and shill for something that is obviously nvidia related, useless cunts that made a problem where there never wasffs I was a gfx programmer back in the days ... I dunno what the fuck they do now other than they fucked it upused to be wait for vertial tarcing...
>>100189366Ackshually, cheap displays offload tarcing onto the gpu. Get a Dell monitor. Samsung used to be good but recently they started to suck. Wacom tablets has it as well strangely enough. Acer Nitro XV275K P3biipruzxSamsung 49-Inch Odyssey G9 (I know I said samsung doesn't have it but the G8 and G9 still do)Dell S3222DGMAlienware AW3423DWFLG 32UN500-WYou can safely ignore the rest
>>100189465>Samsung 49-Inch Odyssey G9NONONO CURWED SHIT HAS TO GOI wanna try dell gigabyte... regardless this is a fucking nvidia problem, why did nobody just a ffew years ago have any problem say watching a video.. not talking 65000ghz ultraframe rate gaymesno all of sudden just panning shit on your screen..... also I hope this curved shit dies soon, bring back 4:3
I bought the lg one btw like half of g did last year because it was cheao.. I am so pissed because I got fooled it was supposed to be a kvm on it... us just a usb...and it's a shit I can't turn of this the screen, because then my laptop is put in sleepmode and......is prolly idiotic eu regulations
>>100189319Don't care, still not buying nVidia. I don't play a ton of games or use "AI" at all and only upgrade GPU every 7-10 years. Only reason I upgraded to a 6900XT was because I started using a 55" 4K TV as my main monitor so I wanted something capable of 4K.>>100189334Well seeing as how nVidia only cares about "AI" now this will probably never get fixed. And I'm surprised they haven't been sued by enterprise customers for how absolute shit their drivers are.
I regret reinstalling Artix last year, purely just because I hadn't reinstalled the base OS in a decade and thought it was something I should just get around to doing. I could've looked cool in front of a data mining thread on /g/ with a ~2013 init on my daily driver
>>100189029>Router and servers are running in VMs.would you mind explaining why?
>>100188459I used cinnamon for a while but switched to plasma because it's just comfier. Having a better file manager by default is nice and I also have to use the alt shift f12 hotkey to disable compositing constantly (proton doesn't get along well with multiple monitors in my experience)

Hello all
>>100190111Because one machine draws less power than 3. And my 5900X is powerful enough where there is no difference in me running 4 VMs (router, external services, internal services and a testing VM (all using one CCX)) and doing whatever desktop things like browsing, playing games or whatever. I could double the amount of VMs and it still just wouldn't care.
>>100190329Ah, thank you. I never thought about it this way. I have the exact same set up as you with a Crosshair VIII Dark Hero. I shouldn't be running 2 desktops, but, 1 wtg VMs for my jellyfin server, right?
>>100191532>"wtg"I am unfamiliar with this abbreviation
>>100191599sorry, terrible typo. 1 with* VMs
>>100191532>>100191619Yeah, you should look into cpu pinning too. I'll spare you the googling and tell you that AMD Ryzen cpus have their cores numbered 0-11 and threads numbered 12-23 (this would be a 5900X)(you can see this with lstopo). Will help you use the correct L1-L3 caches for your core/thread pairs in QEMU/KVM. However if you're using a GPU for transcoding and you only have one GPU and it's not one of those enterprise ones with SR-IOV (though I think the Intel ones can do SR-IOV even if there is no official support) you're no longer gonna be able to do GPU transcoding.

>>100191695Thank you very much this info. I have a little project cut out for me this weekend, now. Currently, my 5900x computer is used only for gaming and briefing, while I run my jellyfin server off of an older PC—Intel i7 6700K, 16GB RAM with a GTX980, running on LMDE. making the switch is worth it in terms of power consumption, at least, right?
>>100191764Wtf are you me? My last computer (turned router/VM host after I bought my new one) was an i7-6700K with an EVGA 980 SC and 16GB of RAM.It depends really, should be since 5900X is more power efficient but because it has waaay more resources it might be +/- zero. It should be faster at doing it's job at least and if both your PCs where on 24/7 it'll cut out the power used by the second PC.
>>100191856lol I'm sure I'm not you. I have a retard problem. For instance, the 6700K computer running jellyfin is connected to a router WITHOUT internet access. it only has internet access when I need it to. I'm not sure how to configure that were I to embark on the setup we're discussing with the 5900x Computer. Essentially, I want only three host to have internet access, while the VM running jellyfin to NOT have internet access, but, still work as a meets server. Yes, I have two routers and one Does Not have internet access.
>>100188706beauty
I should have gotten a Milk-V Mars instead...
>>100191991media* server. I hope do I get my TVs to recognize the HDDs on the jellyfin VM?
>>100192076Fucking typos!!! How* do I get
>>100191991Just don't make a route for the interface.Basically just use nmcli and make a network bridge, if you only have one network card that doesn't matter since it can act like the host OS network card while being a network bridge for your VMs. Here is my bridge for reference. Ignore all the slaves except for "bridge slave 1", the rest gets automatically created if you're using virt-manager.
>>100191991>>100192926Here is the "bridge slave 1" for reference
