>>
>>100196699
/g/uro was removed around the same time as /l/oli.
They were replaced with normalfag crap.
>>
>>100196959
4chan had direct links to gurochan and not4chan so users looking for that content knew where to go. I remember because when I was a newfag back in 2006 I clicked on them.
>>
>>100196930
You would be surprised, tripfags were a big part of early 4chan history since all users came from forums. Users adapted to posting anonymously later on
>>

And then those died. I wonder why m00t never did that with /pol/.

As a zoomer with unfettered access to the internet during the early 2000's, I mostly remember Flash games, porn, mods (not explicitly 4chan) either being REALLY lax, or power-tripping faggots; pop-up ads, adware/malware that would rape your system after trying to get a game for free but being too retarded to do it properly, and those chain-letter-type messages.

it was a different time. in 2004 the chan community was more about just discussing niche anime stuff so it was fine to cross link to other sites. A popular internet mechanic for sharing websites at the time was 'web rings' in which groups of websites linked each other like a kind of referal system. In this manner, you could find other people's websites without using a search engine or even knowing the address. The early internet was high trust, and pretty friendly for the most part.

But by the time the 2010s rolled around, other chans were viewed as competition so no more cross linking. M00t stupidly thought he could axe some of the more active boards because their content wasnt 'advertiser friendly' but it had the opposite effect and almost killed the site. Popular Alt chans from that time period were word filtered and anons would get banned for linking to them.

Yeah, that's cause you either had to use Paint, Photoshop, or Gimp (idk how ubiquitous the latter was back then). Nowadays zoomers just use whatever capabilities the photo app on their phone has to make "edits", or use TikTok. There's a bunch of shitty videos with aggravating tts voices narrating, highlighted captions, and useless faggots pointing to shit in the corner. Some of them would make shitty drawings on Paint back then, but they were pretty stupid and pretty low effort, usually just some caricature of a negroloid.
>>
>>100197935
uhm, that's problematic.
>>
>>100197927
Mein nigga, I know what web rings are lole; they're still used on shit like Neocities. How do we heal 4chan and the internet as a whole. Seems like normalfags segregating themselves within TikTok is the perfect opportunity to take back what's rightfully hikineet's. There's no way for normalfags to get outraged at something when they can't find it on TikTok. Me personally, I think that in order for chans/imageboards to get another (proper) chance, there needs to be tonnes of them active and in circulation. It has to be moderated by older zoomers. That way it isn't held back by oldfaggotry. Board culture won't be lost since there are a few zoomers who have practically been raised alongside 4chan. Of course, those types inparticular will be a little more perturbed than their peers, and will have a slightly (edgy) idea of what 4chan was/is. On the other had there are the moralfags who's only exposure to 4chan is greentexts reposted elsewhere. In the middle will be the centrist. There'd need to be a close-to-equal amount of each to facilitate interaction between the three types. Also, any IPs outside the US (VPNs included) would be banned, no exceptions, especially not for the Commonwealth--maybe if they brushed their teeth.

because the entire point of the desperate changes moot made around that time was to stop the glowniggers from stealing his site and he knew they demanded nobody there move on to a seperate one, of course 8chucks happened anyway so they came down on him like a hammer.

the feds obviously use those names to do exactly that. It's the people with names like chinochanismywife and xxx_totalkonlove_xxx that end up being the most based right wing and also anti cp.

I was on the Internet prior to 2004, and never heard the term "web ring" until a year ago. While I know they existed, I would in no way classify them as "popular at the time".
>viewed as competition so no more cross linking
Not a chan-specific policy, this was commonly enforced across the web. Going to forum X and talking about forum Y was often going to get you in trouble.

>people having a conversation on a particular topic

the #1 change to 4channel right there, most posts now are either totally vapid or are meme spam on the level of YouTube "omg whos watching in April 2024??? like this comment if u hav good taste too!!"

Technology has been stagnant for over a decade. The difference between 2004 and 2014 was insane. The difference between 1994 and 2004 was even greater. The difference between 2014 and 2024 is marginal at best.
>>
>>100209486
the most significant change from 2014 to 2024 wasn't the internet or the technology itself, but rather the demographics of who is connecting to it. And I mean that in all senses: age, nation, device type, intelligence, etc.

his uncle was directly involved in the silver stream media chimp out. his last act was to demand id from all of his mods or expunge them, then shortly after he sold the site and the rule was repealed and those (((mods))) came back.

I don't doubt moot is comped but answer me honestly. do you think someone like moot would enjoy having his uncle come in and kvetch until he's forced to hand over his entire website to glowniggers all over his uncle being unable to take /v/ emberassing him in stride? all this could have been avoided if not for the retards at silver stream medias chinese isekai levels of choleric behavior.

Society as a whole has lost our innocence due to being exposed to more and more information via the web. Having an innocence gives daily life magic and soul. But the extremely fast rates of learning something, then debunking, truth disappeared and we got used to it. We cope by just not taking anything to heart and trained ourselves to just view everything as raw material objects because investing any sort of heart or faith into it will just be spoiled by either reading something online that proves you wrong or sharing your thoughts online and getting 50 people to rip it apart in minutes. There’s no point in holding an opinion on anything let alone create, be inspired, enjoy the simple things, or do literally anything at all. There’s no truth anymore yet infinite facts. It’s paralyzing.
>>
>>100216185
>There's no truth anymore
This, it's demoralizing. I don't know what to believe anymore. There's always someone saying something and another person claiming bullshit and saying the opposite. And that is for any subject, be it nutrition, fitness, science, technology or anything else. How can I form an opinion in this environment?
