I can backup and restore my OS from USB at will, using only archiso and bsdtar. I can easily uninstall big dependency trees, e.g. if I want to try out a new DE without the clutter of the old one. I can effortlessly rollback to the previous DE, pulling cached packages from the local filesystem. I can use any filesystem and bootloader that I like. My Wi-Fi auto-connects at a barebones console even when I have no DE components installed thanks to DE-independent tools like iwd and systemd-networkd. Just about everything I need to reference is on ArchWiki. All my packages are latest stable upstream release. I have excellent ecosystem and community support due to Arch being a major distro. I have the biggest repository of packages and build scripts available to any system.

I have used all major distributions, and nothing beats this. I'm so comfy on my laptop right now. Arch is designed to empower the end user, rather than make the user conform to the will of an organisation or corporation. For the enthusiast, desktop Linux just doesn't get any better than Arch.

Kind of the exact opposite. It's the only desktop OS I can tolerate that isn't Windows.

rofl, looks like I accidentally summoned based and triggered LTSC chads

All true.
>>
yeah it's a nice distro
don't be like this about it though, just use it like everyone else

Arch is neat but I can’t be arsed to truly know 2,3 package managers.
In Loonix land I’ve preferred to pick the one I could run on both desktop and “server” if need be. And it’s not Debian it’s those other people with the headwear moniker

I have things to do so I'll always install via endeavourOS instead

The biggest surprise I think I've had with Linux is just how ruthlessly pragmatic Arch is compared to any other distro. Whenever I've tried to distro hop I've invariably found essential software or codecs that are disallowed by said distro for political reasons. Arch has none of that. Between the official repos and AUR nothing is disallowed out of hand.

Yeah, you're right. It was that high you get after you get the basics working, but before you realise there are harder to solve problems still to solve, audio works but does not sound as good as Windows.

Fedora is a fine distro. Definitely in my top 3.

>>101199007
I don't like running derivatives.

>>101199108
100% agree. Everything seems so much harder or more obscure on every other distro. It's hard to not fanboy.

haha wtf that's so lame. which distros do that?

Have you forgotten about Sneedacity? Arch also removes things for political reasons.

I found a script that install arch on a portable USB and it genuinely changed my life. I have my own riced OS with all my files encrypted in my wallet and I can plug it into any computer and boot into it.
The most important aspect of Arch is it is targetted towards tinkerers and technical users so it's easier to find niche software, config, scripts for it.

>>101199296
sounds cool. easy to set up?
>>

You don't need a custom script for this. Just do a regular Arch install, but write to the USB drive instead of the internal NVMe.

But yeah, it's damn cool. Windows had this briefly for a while too (Windows To Go), but Microsoft trashed it.
