I went for the S23 (256 gb) over the Xperia 5 V (128 gb). S23 was around 100 euros cheaper.
Better software support and better built quality on Samsung from my personal experience with both brands. OneUI is also good imo
I liked the idea of having a headphone jack and an sd card slot but 256 gb is just enough for me and by now I'm used to bluetooth headphones.
I'm not a fan of and wanted to avoid puncholes but I also don't like the tall screen on the Xperias.

Should these classifications be updated? They seem quite outdated. No one considers 7.5W charging 'rapid' any more.

still, there's a huge gap between 7.5W and all the way up to whether their proprietary fast charging. 7.5W still shouldn't be called rapid any more. i don't know about Samsung etc, but on vanilla Google Android those are still the brackets

That's what I'm thinking. It'll be 3 years since I bought mine in a few days, it's been a phenomenal phone. Still snappy and does everything I need, I don't do anything performance intensive really. The only thing that would make me upgrade is the battery failing or the phone otherwise breaking

samsung is the best on the market 100%.

ONLY PROBLEM is the fucking bloatware which you can EASILY uninstall by connecting to pc and running adb universal debloater.

My OnePlus 7 Pro still works well, but I'm itching for a new phone in the 500-600€ range. Sadly, it looks like the category is riddled with mediocre phones that make too many compromises.
I'm a die-hard MIUI hater, Samshit's offerings are pretty meh, plus One UI seems bloated too. I think I like the Motorola Edge 5 Pro the most, nice display, clean Android implementation, good display and wireless charging, the latter practically unheard in the segment. What do you guys think?
One other option is holding on to my OP7 Pro that still works well, and has a battery recently replaced by the official repair center.

Well, I just want something new, plus I'm somewhat irritated with how OP has fucked up Oxygen OS in Android 12. Still better than MIUI though, my dad has a Xiaomi phone and it's a fucking lagfest, plus all built in apps are full of ads and retarded chink design decisions.

>>101276086
I know that it's a very autistic thing to do, but the fact that it has that useless 2MP macro camera bothers me. I'd rather have nothing, as in reality the main camera seems to produce better macro shots, and OP in true chink fashion wanted to inflate the spec-sheet with bloat.
>>
>>101275773
OP7 Pro with stock Android 11 is easily the worst software experience I ever had on a phone, albeit it's the only chinkphone I ever dared to buy for this exact reason. You can get an S series Samsung with a million features and it will feel cleaner and smoother than the shit Oppo did to my OnePlus.
I'm still mad.

this phone is fucking shit mate

overheating, this phone is hot all the time so the performence is shit, snapdragon is crippled
camera is truly shit, an iphone does it better, which is fucking weird since apple has their sensor, 15 times optical zoom is useless, photos are pixelated as fuck (even though they look good on the viewfinder), they are 3 apps for doing photos/videos, 2 of them are just for videos, just too much of the fucking bloatware, there is snoystation/gaming app preinstalled and I am not mentioning jewbook, 1 app (which you can't uninstall) is just there to be an external display for a snoy camera, in "pro photos" you can't do macro or change the resolution of your photo, all of it in a fucking $1300 phone, fuck snoy

From the customer standpoint yes, but from the company's, no because by the time it's been 2 years the battery probably will have degraded significantly or failed if the owner took bad care of it or didn't minimize charge cycles.

I also enabled the "limit charging to 85%" option though and keep the battery between 20-80% as best I can. At the very least, do that. Install accubattery and it can alert you when it hits a specified percentage so you can unplug it then.

Never owned an Android before, how much does support life matter? Not sure whether to get a Pixel 7 that's supported for another 3 years or 8, which lasts for 6 years. Eventually but it lags far behind the current version.
Right now android 14 is current and maybe you occasionally see appls that no longer support android 8 and very rarely that only support 10 and up.

So yeah, as you put it, price performnce choice: z60, real goal: x100 pro. I can't get over how nice that perfect bezel, perfect rectangle screen looks..... this should be the default.
>>
>>101278012
Good points makes sense for me.
Really dislike the design of the back camera on the vivo btw, hate the fact some phones make them so big
>>
>>101278046
>Really dislike the design of the back camera on the vivo btw,
Another pro for the z60.... the back panel reminds me of 90s japanese stereo designs, and it's taken the pixel-pill and visor-style rear camera assembly so it's symmetric.... z60 really has a lot going for it. I'll watch some camera reviews to get myself hyped.

Is a Samsung Galaxy S10 still good?
I would like a phone with at least a Snapdragon 7xx or 8xx and 6-8GB RAM, but my budget is about $150

So, what are the drawbacks of using an unofficial version of LineageOS? Looking at XDA, apparently there was a version that was officially supported for my phone but it got removed their support list for some reason I can't find why

You're better off with a 2nd hand pixel or OnePlus
>>
>>101278234
From what I see neither Pixel 4 nor 5 have removable storage, and Pixel 6 doesn't use Snapdragon but "Google Tensor".
The OnePlus phones either are expensive or seem to be very limited in my country, so I don't know.

Are flip phones good now?
The new Motorolas look promising
>>
Probably have to reask this in the morning but maybe someone useful is awake now

Can I install some form of android (I'm under the impression sailfish is sort of android enough?) on a pinephone or pinephone pro and have a normal useable daily phone? If not, are there any phones out there with easily replaceable main board / eMMC / main memory, so that I don't have to replace my entire phone when that shitty cheap memory starts dying after 3 years? My typical route of buying a new cheap motorola seems like it will stop working as their cheap phones are suffering shrinkflation worse than mcdonalds ever has (shittier display, much older models for prices that used to afford you a brand new lowend one, etc.).

Why people so retarded. Even measuring monitors with diagonals isn't good enough but they still do.
>>
>>101279450
Yeah I forgot to mention >>101279999 is why I was looking for a replacement to my X3 Pro, after 3 years it just started failing, freezing randomly with the blue/green Poco X3 death screen (look it up) and not turning on again for anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour. It's a very common issue at this point, people fix it temporarily by reballing the SoC but it always dies from the same soldering failure again. If anyone in this thread has a Poco X3 (Pro), sell it ASAP so someone else keeps the hot potato. Also, the Indian version has worse solder quality so it dies quicker.
Very unfortunate since it's the only phone with a 120Hz display and good ARM Windows compatibility, Steam games run about as well as on a budget laptop.

Is moto g 54 a good phone (8 +256gb) ? Anything I should know before getting it?

I need a somewhat cheap phone, it has to be new/unused, not second hand or refurbished, with good screen(1080p or more), sd card and headphone jack. 5g is nice but not a requirement, latest android is not a requirement, I won't be gaming on it, camera is not a requirement however g54 has ois so that's nice.

I'd stay far away from Iphones. Had one of those and when I received an OS update, my phone came to screeching halt, It was so slow after. When I called Apple, they wanted to charge me for the call, then told me to replace my handset for a new Iphone. WTF?! That was the last time I had an Icrap. They do that deliberately, so they force you to upgrade. With the new Galaxy S23 you will get at least 4 more years of OS and security updates, so your phone is actually getting better and better each time. When I got my S23 fe it had no AI, now it does with the new OneUI 6.1- / No heating issues, No battery issues. Don't worry abot the bezels! As soon as you slap a case on it, you won't see it. Is bad notification management a Samsung-related issue? I've read Samsung tends to kill background processes in a particularly aggressive manner compared to other makers, which affects notificication delivery.
I've had 3 delayed (one by 40 fucking minutes) notifications and one that didn't even deliver at all until I opened the app, in the span of two weeks.

on the s24ultra now. thank fuck they got rid of the curved screen which is what i think did me in, since my s8+ has more damage on the screen and still works with my fingers. sucks they got rid of the sdcard slot, but i got the 512gb, and my note10 had 256 and a 256 sdcard. overall very solid phone and the camera is insane. I regret not trading in my older samsung phone for it over the holidays, they were giving $1k off down to the S7 series

i already got buck broken by the loss of an audio jack with that one but i already own a DAP for IEMs/headphones so it's less important to me now. I would like to see more phones like the moondrop MIAD01 being done by sony or the like. I would have gone with an asus gamer phone just for the features but the software support stopped me

Convince me not to buy this cute thing. My phone usage is super basic, the only things I need are calls, SMS, banking apps and music (offline and YT through Tubular).

check if your bank cares about play integrity before buying

I'm in Russia. Not a single bank cares here.

CPU issue I presume? Is it that bad? I'm seeing the S23 has less battery autonomy than the 24.

My note 10 plus just died and i have to buy a new phone within the day. My options are as follows:
S23 Ultra
Iphone 15/ plus
Iphone 14 pro max
fold 5
As a forever android person i want to stick to the ultra 23 but im skeptical and a bit bored. Im also scared of iphones for various reasons but also since i enjoy cracked spotify and revanced youtube. Realistically, whats the best go to rn ?
>>
>>101296799
Considering the price difference yes
S23 is still a good purchase now
>>
>>101296810
You wont get a better experience with iPhone. Embrace boredom and get the S23 or even S24 Ultra
>>
>>101296810
I switched from samsung to iphone this year. It's really not that bad, its different but there are lot of little things apple does better that add up
>>
>>101296852
Does the ultra 23 differ much from ultra 24? idk if the price hike is worth a few features.
>>101296853
Its such a hard call, especially since i cant go for the top notch variant so id have to stick to basic iphone 15. Also, do anyone know if jailbreaks are still a thing? or youtube revanced? i left it off at iphone 3gs

It's norm because Americans are carrier slaves. In Russia is just prohibited to sell locked phones that's why no one buys phones from carriers in Russia. They just more expensive from carriers lol.
I just don't get it.

Thank you very much.

> Are there already available custom roms made for it?
Plenty. Even for mtk model like this.

Also this 4pda standard is making all pajeets sick because official ROMs is what had been released by vendor.

You can jailbreak on older models, depending on the the chip,

I've been asking around on every forum and phone community and haven't gotten a helpful response: is there a shop out there that does pixel 8 board repair?

I can try. Board repair is "one of a kind" job, damaged boards aren't the same. But I'm afraid you aren't live in Kazan.

I was forced to buy a Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. I need to install LineageOS. Is it possible?
>>
>>101274834
Nah. Samsung as a whole has huge QC issues. I've owned samsung phones and appliances, quality is spotty at best.

No more than everybody else

Lol, lmao
>>
>>101296652
Oh, I did that on both apps already, but it still persists, hence why I came here asking.

>>101296614
Right, I don't think I want to go for an iPhone but I'm considering other Android makers.
>>
What are the best android apps to install? What do you all have installed? Any kind of app is ok, productivity, utility, games...
I just got my new S23 and I want to know which apps are worth.
>>
>>101297412
Literally all oled phones have that problem if dropped enough. Literally every single phone model with an oled screen you search up on google with green line added will give you a result.
>>
>>101297484
And it happens more easily on samsung phones. I've had 3 oled phones and the only one with a green line has been the only samsung I've owned. And I used it as my daily driver for less than 2 years. Meanwhile, my OG pixel took 4 years like a champ.

uhh pretty much any recent phone with unlockable bootloader can run gsi
>>
>>101297483
Get good lock from the samsung application store if you want some extra cool shit
Get f-droid and download trackercontrol from there, it's decent at blocking ads
Get aodNotify for samsung devices if you want to use the AOD just for notifications
>>
>>101297529
Would it work fine? I never tried GSI before. Is there anything special I need to do?
>>
>>101297531
Thanks bro
What's the best browser on android btw? Something that will enable me to use youtube without ads if possible. Or does f-droid remove them too?
>>
>>101297483
New pipe for youtube
orgzly revived (literally the best notes app I've checked tonnes)
discord for chatting with gf
>>
>>101297882
nta but
>>101297947
I used brave as my browser. it works really well, and again newpipe
>>
>>101297882
Best browser is a tough choice, I base it around my desktop browser so I can sync tabs and shit so since I use firefox on desktop, I use Iceraven on Android. It's basically firefox mobile with more features, but -not- privacy focused (if you want that instead, there's Mull).
Samsung browser isn't all that bad and it has some specific features like for instance, playing youtube videos in the background, but you could also do that with Newpipe).

Pixel 8 pro or OnePlus 12?
I generally don't like Samsung because of the bloatware

Asking in a different way now that I've done a good bit more research...

Are there any phones with easily removable UFS main storage? Pinephone is the only thing I've found with actual in stock spare main boards (with shitty eMMC of course). But I guess no one wants to do replaceable main storage because something something hardware signature and something something then people could actually keep their phones as long as they keep their computers.
