Tablet owners... why?
What do you do with your tablet? what tablet is it?

I just ordered a Tablet, this one specifically, because Lenovo gave me a 25% student discount. I am going to use it to read textbooks my university provides in PDF form.

I use a tablet to read comic books before going to bed. It's an old one that's like 7 years old. The issue is the SD card slot is borked and doesn't ready half the time so like every other day I have to eject the card, restart the tablet, then put it back in. It's a pita. I think I'll see if I can find any decent deals on Black Friday.

I have a Surface Pro 6 from 2018. I bought it on Black Friday back then at a decent discount. Back then I used to travel for business now and then and I wanted to have a personal device I could easily take along, but also wanted a tablet for tablet shit. The business travel didn't really pan out in the end, so I mostly use it for videos, sometimes reading and rarely some note taking / sketching shit out rather than using paper.

What are the specs on this thing again? I can get one for $250 or so, seems like it'd be less of a pain to get linux on it than some arm tablet.
>>
>>103271164
There are multiple models, mine has some quad-core 8000-series Intel CPU and 8GB RAM. I think there's a project dedicated to running Linux on them, I heard it's apparently pretty good but I haven't tried it yet.

Bought a cheap 11" Lenovo for about $120 to read pdfs of history textbooks that don't fit on my e-reader. There's no use case for a tablet besides this. It's huge, heavy, typing is impossible, and I'm not 13 to watch tranime tiktube all day.
Good purchase nonetheless. Chink firmware comes with a switch to disable Google services, which results in zero battery drain. God bless the chang!
>>
>>103267544
If you want something cheap, just get the Samsung A9+ or Lenovo M11 if you're even poorer.
If you want to do art, iPad is the only option, which is pointless since AI is going to be better than you anyway.

tldr; Samsung A9+
>>

Galaxy Tab S7 and above can do it if the desktop supports Wireless display. I use frequently while travelling.
I am not sure if it works with Linux though, but I will try tomorrow.

I have an iPad Air 13 inch that I use to put my sheet music on the stand of my piano.
I can download the music online and display it on my iPad for free. I don't have to pay for sheet music (minus the one time purchase for MuseScore).
Also the apple pencil can annotate on the music too.

Every once in a while I use it to take math notes at uni but those are the only two use cases I have for it.

Hey I have that tablet, I got it recently to replace my really old desktop, I got it for $250 with the doorbuster sale. It's decent, I do everything on mine, it has a lot of neat features, and the built in speakers are not bad. I also got the pen. For serious typing there's desktop mode when connected to a mouse and keyboard. The speakers are really good for a tablet, it's a 28 watt speaker lol it gets loud and it can be paired to a phone and used as a Bluetooth speaker. The screen is mediocre because ips, OLED would've been nice. Usb-c 45w and 8600mah battery, great battery life and can be used as a power bank but it's usb-c 2.0 so no display output. It's my main device for doing everything but if I need to I remote onto my old desktop that I turned into a headless server. What I really enjoy about this device isb having an ultra mobile jam machine with fl studio mobile and cubasis 3, paired with my midi keyboards and rocksmith guitar cable. The pen is alright, the hardware isn't fast or responsive enough to feel like a premium experience but it works, as good as a budget tablet with this baby features gets. The aluminum buddy however really feels premium af, they did good with the design of the built in stand. Also the headphone jack has a decent dac, that's all my thoughts about this, it's a great device
>>
>>103268073
Oh you know what, there's one more thing and it's related to this post. You can use this device as a networked external display for your computer but you need to install the related app for it
>>
Iplay60 PAD Pro 8G/128gb (+12gb virtual ram) 90hz Widevine L1 Netflix support, G99 SOC, 4G LTE microSD expansion and quad speakers.
$170 on amazon for the 12.1" same SOC as the Lenovo, better screen 1600P 550nits vs the 1200P 400nits on the Lenovo, less speakers than the lenovo but let's face it tablet speakers are dogshit, and the lenovo doesn't say it has Widevine L1 so you can't even watch Netflix in high resolution, lotta reddit threads complaining that the Lenovo tabs are stuck in widevine L3 hell

$140 for the 8.4" iplay60 mini pro which looses 2 speakers and resolution goes down from 1600P to 1200P

I got the older iPlay50 mini Pro, which is better for reading IMO, not too unwieldly, parents and friends got the full size iplay50 Pro because they like to play games and watch videos.
I was given an iPlay40 Pro which had a borked firmware and a broken type C port, got a repair shop to fix the port for $30 bux, but it won't connect to a computer so I can't flash the firmware so the gyroscope is broken and won't auto rotate, I just put Clipious and other video apps on it and use it as a media device, it's got the older T618 so it's not very good for any games that are more demanding than Blue Archive.

Xiaomi Pad6 is $420 for the SD870 wifi version which is expensive for a device to muck around with.

I find android tablets to be much better than ipads when sideloading apps and content, there's just no replacement for Mihon/Tachiyomi and things like Clipious and other iptv apps. I find OsmAnd+ to be better than google maps or apple maps when you leave the city too.
But yeah, I do most things on the desktop, so Mihon/Tachiyomi is my main usage for tablets. I have way better and larger screens and sound systems for consuming media. Sure I could do some retro gaming on the tablet, but I can do it better on the desktop too.
That's the main reason the tablet market is meh, a phone does everything that a tablet does with a smaller package that fits in your pocket.
>>
>>103275865
You can load up proper linux on a SD870 device, which is why I'm considering getting one, because there is literally not a single android app capable of properly viewing a 15MB+ image on a remote share. They ALL downscale it to some shitty jpeg.
It's either that or an ipad since I've found an iOS app that's capable of image viewing.

They're both more or less equally shitty, both active pens are based off the same Wacom original with modified proprietary firmwares, just like Apple. The main difference then comes from mostly the responsiveness of the tablet's chipset and screen

I bought a Samsung S6 Lite recently, because I needed a tablet with a Pen for writing.
My usecase is exclusively to solve crosswords in weekly magazines.

I feel that the tablet is super bloated though, and the battery life is not what I'd expect from a brand new tablet.
Should I install another OS, perhaps LinageOS?

I seriously only use it with Xodo PDF reader, and it lies inactive for 23½ hours of the day.
Perhaps it would be sweet to watch some TG videos on it, once in a while, but I wont need anything more demanding.

I'm a student pilot. I use an iPad Mini with Foreflight for planning flights, navigating while in the air, getting weather and live traffic information, logging hours and flight paths, etc. I've got a 5th gen Mini right now but it's on its last legs since I've had it since late 2019, gonna have to replace it with the new one soon. I don't like Apple or iOS but Foreflight is exclusive to that platform and it's so much better than the Android alternatives that it's worth it.

The iPad is also really nice for reading and browsing in bed and when traveling.

Hi anons, which tablet would you recommend me, a semi-broke German CS uni student, to get? I'm kind of torn between a (refurbished) iPad Air M2 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9. I want to use the tablet mainly for doing my math assignments, annotating PDFs and slides, and some light gaming (games like clash of clans and brawl stars) and media consumption.

I already own an iPhone, so an iPad would be great, but ((Apple))'s pricing and the fact that I have to pay like 80€ extra for their stylus is killing me, and for the same money I could get way better specs with the S9. What do you guys think, is an iPad really that good, especially when it comes to taking notes, that it justifies its steep price? You can also suggest other tablets.

Oh, and how is 11'' screen size for my use case? I've seen some people saying that 13'' would be more ideal for school/college work, but I'm not sure.

please recommend me a good, high-quality windows x64 device (2in1, tablet, etc) that has a 3:2 ratio and also active stylus support
aside from microsoft surfaces I could only find huawei matebook E, galaxy book pro, thinkpad x1 titanium and asus zenbook oled; just 1 model each of those. there are others but they fail the high-quality part by being cheapo acer-tier crap
anything else out there?
>>
Reading. I love it for that and it's exactly why I bought it. Ereaders are far too limited I never had one I liked but the tablets are beyond perfect for it. I originally bought it to read manga and comics but I love regular books on it too much better.

You guys think getting a tablet that supports drawing is worth it? Any one that does always ads an extra $200 to their price tags and a graphics pad is nowhere near that much.

No, just get an external drawing monitor, that way you can just plug it into any computer down the line and won't be bound to dated shitty overheating hardware that you'd have to replace every couple years.

I have a pixel tab
I use it as an alarm clock and a fuck around device
It was one of those things where I had a niche idea for it when I bought it but nowadays I end up using it more often than my laptop

I wish I had the money for an iPad mini when I was in flight school...
My instructors required me to use paper for everything though so I doubt I would've been able to use it much
>>
>>103285267
If you already have an iPhone, you'll really appreciate the integrations between the two devices
i would spend the money on the ipad
but i only recommend it because youre already in the ecosystem

So you know how to fly a plane?

I have my PPL and got halfway through instrument before calculus filtered me
I can fly small single engine fixed gear aircraft
But I haven't done so in like 8 years

You can save money from Samsun if you're a student. I bought a tab a9+ for 130 where it's currently 150 I think
>>
>>103289655
I considered that too, but it costs almost as much as an iPad Air + stylus. I think I'll have to go to an electronics store and see if they have both models so I can compare them in real life and see which one works better for me.
>>103292324
Yeah, that's an advantage that many have mentioned, but to be honest, I don't think it's that much of a killer feature for me. Yes, syncing all my accounts, passwords, and other data would be a breeze at first, but it's not that much of a hassle to do it from an iPhone to an Android tablet.

As I said, I'll be using my iPad mostly for my university, so I won't be syncing much between my phone and tablet anyways. Unless there are some other benefits I'm overlooking?
>>103285267
And btw, is 64GB enough nowadays?
>>
>>103292612
>Unless there are some other benefits I'm overlooking?
It basically allows you to use your tablet as your phone. If you're using your iPad, you never have to pick up your phone for anything
I really appreciate that feature
I also think iPads are just better designed and supported
Speaking as an android tablet user. I'm just never going to buy an iphone
>>
>>103292612
>>And btw, is 64GB enough nowadays?
No, you give up half of that to the OS
>>
>>103292372
Damn, still cool! Congrats, anon!

My air 2 is starting to die and I'm thinking about replacement.
IpadOS is still joke so I'm looking at tab S9.
What are my options for apps to doodle with the pen?
I'm not artist, just need something to sketch state machines, data flows, pseudo code bs, etc.
I'm currently looking at the concepts app, is there anything better?

nta I got a lenovo m11

pros.
- good audio
- ok performance with 8gb of ram
- headphone jack
- clean software
- it has pen
- built quality feels good.

cons
- the pen is absolute dogshit compared to anything EMR (wacom like)
- battery doesn't last as much as I'd like.
- usb 2.0 so no video over usb. no device as webcam either.
- slow charge (15w) but my nokia charger 20w does it notably faster.
- software to draw on android seems kinda bad.

since I bought it to draw and no more than that I'm very disappointed. It works well to watch videos or read shit. you can doodle or write with the pen but i'll rather spent more on a tablet with a proper magnetic batteryless pen so whatever.
>>
how can people stand using a stylus at all on a tablet? theres 0 friction or response, its extremely slippery too, its not even frictionless in a good way like a fountain pen
>>
>>103293487
is not a problem when you get used. also you can buy screen protectors that gives you a matte finish and last long. the real problem is accuracy most of these shitty Bluetooth pens wooble and are unable to stabilize the strokes in all situations. they wobble on small strokes. they wooble on long lines and if you activate stabilization in your software. most of the time that requires a high amount so drawing becomes annoying since you can't do detailed work.
>>
>>103293247
Lenovo sells its devices on features and specs and then when you buy them it's all trash because the software is so shit and the hardware despite being good specs works dogshit. Same thing with their handheld, it technically has the best screen of all of them but runs like shit.
>>
>>103293655
idk performance wise feels good. overall I just complain about the pen because I can't return it. unless is broken by the manufacturer you're fucked here.

but in general I'm not a retard that expect 1440p 240fps on a portable devices. there's still a lot of retards complaining battery doesn't last. and then you see they are emulating ps3 or switch, You have to decide between performance or battery you can't have both.
>>
I just got one the Honor X9. I'll see how goes, It's a bit more than I expected for the price £130. I was gonna get the X8a but this had a better screen. I looked at the Pad 9 but I didn't think it justified the price jump I didn't want to spend more on a tablet all I use it for is reading and some internet
>>
>>103293750
Do you really need a ton of performance on a tablet?
>>
>>103278005
personally I don't but some people are expecting wonders from shit that is supposed to be used on the go and runs on battery. I just want to be able to draw and watch videos or music at the same time. the real issue is that drawing can use a lot of ram. 4gb is not enough for anything these days because the fucking OS will kill apps all the time. You need 8gb min and when I draw on PC I constantly use about 2 to 15GB on the drawing software alone

seriously if android had and option to just block the OS from killing at least 2 apps no matter what everything would be better but most implementations don't have this "don't killt his fuckin app ever" option

the worst part is that most drawing apps don't even save the progress if the app gets closed for whatever reason. ibis paint is the best in this scenario.

I've got an used Galaxy Tab A8 as my 1st tablet to see if I liked using them, and considering the price I got it for, less than half of what a new Galaxy Tab A9+ goes for, it's working good, I can draw just fine with a capacitive stylus, though an active one would be ideal, and I can emulate up until SNES and Genesis with shaders, and PS1 without shaders, it's good enough for now.

I guess this purchase served its purpose, it did show me that I like tablets, so next time I don't have to be afraid of spending a bit more on some better hardware like a flagship Samsung one.

One thing that I'd love is to get the most out of this tablet now though, but it's pretty weak. Should I have RAM Plus turned on or off? Are there any settings key for performance on this?

They've updated it like three times now. AFAIK they only changed the cpu.

I own a S9 FE. I only use it for reading manga, I paid a premium for it (over the cheaper A9+) for the stylus but so far I haven't used it for anything worthwhile.
>>
>>103295792
'ram plus' is swap its the fastest way to kill an ssd
turn it off unless you are using some app that needs a lot of memory and closes itself without swap on
>>
People in this thread makes me scared of buying used tablets. Like you sick fucks who does things with these tablets don't trade them in do they? I will never buy used anything now, not even cars.
>>
>>103297247
It's just cum, what's the big deal? Some people would pay extra for it, you know.
>>
I can't fucking decide
Should I just go for the A9+ 8/128GB for about $250 now
or
order the S9+ 12/256 GB for about $600
The A9 I could pick up tomorrow, the S9 would arrive in about 2 weeks
>1st tablet
>only use for me so far would be a bigger screen in bed browsing, shitposting and watching youtube i guess
>>
A9+ is more than enough. honestly I never see much difference in these tablet screens unless they are some sub $100 cheapest TFT for kids tablets
>>
>>103297756
Yeah I'm going for the A9+
It will most likely be good enough for my use
It will also fit in the holder I got, the S9+ wouldn't
Thanks
