>>103281538Any hardware recommendations for a diy opensense router build out of generic hardware?Currently I'm thinking of an Erying 11600H-ES board, with a PCIe 8x 2x SFP+ card, and a PCIe 1x 2x 2.5gbps RJ45 ports. Use an older but still good nvme drive for storage. Not sure what chipsets to look for or avoid when it comes to the PCIe cards.
>>103281538I'm building a server/NAS and plan to set my dad up with jellyfin so he can stop paying the cable jew. Is there a boomer-friendly way to let him browse movies and shows available on torrent sites and automatically download the shit he wants to watch? He can barely use a smartphone.
>>103281538Is there a stand or mount so I can set up a server like this, or mounted to a wall. I do not want to get up a rack for one or two systems.
>>103283051You and I both know that will not end well. You're ptobably better off setting him up with a collection of classics he enjoys and download new series for him when they come out
>>103283063there are vertical mounts you can mount on the wall. You could also lie it on it's side, here's my r330 + md1200
>>103281538You baka.
I miss the /g/ wiki link
>>103281538now i finally own an apartment im considering a full time server somewhere.i used to have two rack servers a long time ago that would noise it up. is there anything a bit more quiet and modern i should look into?mostly for storage, maybe a bit of web. that sort of thing. vm's....
>>103281538I hate summer not because I can't deal with the heat but ambient temperature makes my drives run at like 56C without the air con going. Stupid machine.
What platform is quiet and low power draw at idle, fits 48+ core CPUs, and can load up with GPU for ML workloads
>>103281538I'm looking to shrink my TrueNAS/Jellyfin server down to picrel. What's the smallest you guys think 32tb of raw storage could be packed down to? Need redundancy so let's assume roughly 16 of this being usable at best.I've only got one 3.5" bay available, this little box also has a bluray drive for ripping.
>>103285624If you must use that, put an HDD in place of the ODD.If you can buy shit, get this, I have one
can i turn a regular ATX motherboard into a server or what's the deal? Like, what kind of software am I looking at and what language do you use to communicate with it? I don't understand these things at all. Any help would be nice, I want to turn my tower into a server but i'm kind of retarded. Almost up to 50TB though
>>103286150You can install windows server on a consumer motherboard with no problem but the drivers arent tested as much as with server motherboards.
>>103285776nta, but your filename didn't bring anything relevant. Spoonfeed a nigga?
>>103286253Sorry anon, that is the AOOSTAR WRT R1A bought the un-branded one at aliexpress
>>103281538What Samsung monitor is that in the picrel?
>nas running truenas scale on bare metal with vm/containers for apps>proxmox with truenas running in a vm>use truenas for the nas shit and buy a cheap used pc on ebay to run proxmox for my services Which should I do?
sudden urge to buy pcie optane for l2arc
Originally posted this in /sqt/ but then I remembered this thread exists.I'm interested in setting up a Minecraft server for a couple of friends, which is something I've never done before. One of them says I'll need a managed switch, apparently so I can forward ports without needing to fiddle with the router. Is this true?
>>103288584No. Your friend is a retard. A managed switch would increase your security though such that if your Minecraft server got pwned somehow then it wouldn't be able to access other devices within your network (you can set it up that way if you want, that is).A router can forward ports perfectly fine and easily.
if i am to use a laptop as a server, what are the ways to add storage to it like adding more HDDs
>>103289997I use this with my PC and it's pretty good, but I'm working on moving everything to a NAS so it'll be used only for backups soon.
Does samba actually work on Ubuntu 24.04?I'm beginning to regret going with Ubuntu honestly, it seems I have to fight it over every single thing.
>>103286378Still waiting for a response. Please tell.
>>103283051jellyseerr is for this
>>103290581>jellyseerrSo basically if I combine it with radarr/sonarr, it will automatically torrent whatever he wants? Can I set it to prefer particular file sizes/resolutions? He uses a 55" 720p plasma tv so there's no need to waste space on remuxes for his stuff.
>>103292574yeah jellyseerr will let you let you give your users the option of quality profile but i give my users only the option for 1080p. radarr/sonarr will let you set stuff for that quality profile like resolution, encoding and GB/hr. its pretty easy
>>103292622Nice. I won't have all the parts until next month but maybe I'll mess around with it in a VM.
I have a whole bunch of 3.5, 2.5 and nvme hard drives all over my pcs. What's the best way to consolidate them into 1 place so I don't have to keep jumping between pcs?Get something to act as a server, plug them in and then connect via ethernet?
>>103290548>PLEASE SPOONFEED MENo
>>103292861Yeah. Just slap Debian on some old piece of shit with enough SATA/M2 ports and setup samba. Go with RAIDZ if you want to share all drives as one big virtual drive, use only samba if you want to share drives individually.
>>103292999any specialized cases for setups like these? want something relatively small, not a full on pc case/rack
>>103293293Mostly just depends on how many 3.5/2.5 drives you want to slap in there. I've recently build a few PCs for friends and family and ended up using some Fractal case for all of them. Can fit an absurd amount of HDDs and is available without any glass/plastic window bullshit.
>>103293037just let it go man, no need to keep dwelling on the past
Are people still buying Raspberry Pis in 2024 ?
>>103294733Yes? Why?
Would you guys argue it's retarded to use a 2018 Macbook for a home server or to expose it to the internet? :)
>>103285624U.2 disks if you hate money. They're also impossible to fit into a small package due to cabling needs, as most pcie cards for them are taller than half-height. And cheap shit can't bifuricate pcie slots anyway. There are also slim fuckers but I forget what their form factor is called.>>103286150What makes it a server is the software it runs for the benefit of clients not on its machine. Server hardware is just dedicated to the task which might be at odds with what you want in a home server. See also this nutter >>103285576
>be me>have data from years back, often duplicated>cannot find shit>set up NextCloud instance>install Duplicate Finder>Start building my Library, all my .pdfs, .djvu, .epubs. >See NextCloud has integration with scripting capabilities>I could, given a powerful enough server, run a local model>could use said local model to categorize all my books, papers, etc. into appropriate categories>mfw I have neither the money nor the possibility to build home server setup of my dreams (live in shitty one room apartment and not the means to buy the necessary components, or a fast enough internet connection for this setup)>mfw I'm still forced to jew out money to hosting providers for a shitty VPS>got two of my devices done already, third one is updating (have not run it for quite some time)>soon will also tackle external HDDs/SSDs>it will all be in my cloudOther than that I really like NextCloud to be honest. It's gotten bretty good. I imagine one could, theoretically build a TacOps center with it (although I don't know why one would do this) - but everything is there, from file management to real time phone tracking, to real time video and other comms, to real time data visualization. Plus in concordance with the scripting capabilities it's become infinitely expandable.
holy fucking shit can anyone please explain why generated thumbnails only load half way on jellyfin media libraries. I have no idea why the fuck it keeps happening only for anime tv/movies. REgular TV/Movies/Music all work just fine. permissions are all the same. I was thinking maybe its the metadata plugin doing this shit? AniDB or Anilist?
I finally got opensense to work right, but now, whenever I do an nmap scan from the outside, all of my ports are open. When I curl from a server, it hangs at SSL, and times out.In the log view, I see a lot of port scanners get blocked. How the hell do I make these ports closed? I know nothing is on them, nothing is being forwarded, but having these all open like that kind of spook me out.
What's the cheapest sbc from aliexpress that can run a jellyfin server?
>>103296496Disabling the DDoS prevention thing in settings turned all ports to closed. Odd.
