>get amd graphics card>a lot cheaper than nvidia >almost the same performance >lower wattage requirement>all for the low low price of having your pc crash every time you open a video >only way to reliably have it work is to run without drivers or adrenalineIT'S BEEN 6 YEARS HOW IS THIS STILL A PROBLEM
>>103289068>buy amd>use LinuxNot my problem
Skill issue. Just buy a Mac buddy.I've been using only ATI/AMD cards for over 20 years and never had any driver or hardware issues.
Yeah. It's kinda fucked. I've had my 7900 XTX for a week now (bought second hand for basically $400 in my cunt) and it's given me a few issues. It probably crashes for 10 minutes for every 8 hours of usage.Still, near 4080 performance for a very good price... when it does work.
>>103289068skill issueRDNA2 is rock solid
>>103289068What graphics card did you buy and which Nvidia card did you compare the test results against?
womm
>>103289099This. AMD just werks on Loonix. I run Proton games with more stability than I did natively.
>>103289827what the fuck kinda world are we living in that AMD is the one with good linux drivers now?
>>103289844amd Linux drivers are written by hyper intelligent transwomanGODS whomst I love and respect. They just werk
>>103289068it's a you problem. never had this issue before.
>>103289126install drivers properly, use the damn DDU or reinstall windows since it's likely a pigstyI had AMD driver crash on me last time in 2017.
>>103289746The lower power draw is a significant indicator that he's talking about the previous generation, specifically the rx 6000 vs the Nvidia 3000 series. For example, the 6800xt is usually faster than a 3080 (well, unless you're talking about 4k due to the 6000 series relying on its large cache) while drawing less power. Main reason for this is Nvidia using the underwhelming 8nm Samsung note while amd used 7nm tsmc. With the current gen Nvidia went back to tsmc and also amd introduced the multi die design which is inherently less power efficient, so it's back to "normal" with Nvidia cards being somewhat more power efficient.
>>103289844Dunno, but after throwing in an AMD card, I'm team AMD now.No more fucking with drivers and regressions, everything just worked out of the box.I used Nshitia for years because my last ATI card started beeping loudly until I silenced it.When it died, I realized it was overheating and had been crying for help.IIRC it was a PowerColor I got as a present.
>>103289844a world in which competent Linuz driver devs were hired by AMD and fought to take over development.I wish they also managed other areas like the OpenCL stack, but hey, that's too much to ask... AMD hired indians instead.
>>103289126>It probably crashes for 10 minutes for every 8 hours of usageIt's not the drivers, the chip is dying.
>>103289068>go from Nvidia to AMD>used to a low key control panel that I never used>suddenly I get this shit with 43738 options and features I don't needNever buying an AMD GPU again, this is my second time. First was 2 faulty R9 280X and now a 7700 XT with hardware acceleration issues on Chromium and over saturated colors. Sorry but I don't wanna have to calibrate shit because your drivers are ass.
>>103289126anon... it might be >>103290580. ask the seller for the receipt and return it for RMA
>>103289068It never was
>>103289068>>lower wattage requirementlollmaoroflnot it fucking isn't. radeon GPUs are notoriously power hungry compared to the direct nvidia equivalent, the main advantage is that they're a fuck ton cheaper for similar or more performance. but a proper apple to apple performance perf wise shows that RTX dog shit is a lot more efficient, especially when combined with undervolting to fine tune things.>AMD driver are trash what the fuckThis has been an issue since forever, not just 6 years you zooming tooming turd nigga
As someone who only switched to AMD in 2021 and has had a perfect experience so far, were the memes about AMD drivers being shitty true back then?
>>103289126you plugged in both power cables into the 7900 XTX right? I didn't do this because I was an idiot and it was causing my system to hard shutoff whenever I started doing anything graphically intensive. Plugged them both in and haven't had any issues since. 7900 xtx hellhound here
>>103291823I forgot to mention the only issue I have is insane coil whine but only at high framerates, like 300+ if you cap the framerate to your refresh rate its fine.
>>103289068If you go team red linux is now mandatory.
>>103289068No issues with my card, I only open adrenaline every 3 months to update the drivers
>>103289068>having your pc crash every time you open a videoWorks on my machine, you cheap, retarded brand whore. Apply yourself.
>>103289068>only way to reliably have it work is to run without drivers or adrenalineWhat? If GPU doesn't have drivers it wont be used. What did bro mean by this
>only way to reliably have it work is to run without drivers or adrenalineElaborate?
>>103291366No. I was an AMD user from 2015 up till a week ago. I had no driver issues, ever, until earlier this year.
>>103289068how the fuck do all you retards all have problems with your AMD cards, I bought mine over a year ago now and have not had a single issue
don't carestill using intelstill using nvidiastill using windows:^)
>>103291366Their openGL implementation was so bad it was functionally useless back in the day, and their old driver software used to crash constantly. Their windows drivers don't have support for directml which makes them bad for machine learningHowever I just bought an nvidia gpu for the first time and the monitor/resolution management Is horrendous, it's straight out of 2001 and you have to create custom resolution profiles to get above 60hz or NTSC color which is absolutely ridiculous that people put up with that
>>103289068>the same performance>>lower wattage requirementWhy lie?
>>103294765>Their windows drivers don't have support for directml which makes them bad for machine learningI think they do, at least with their partnership with some AI company that released AmuseAI uses directml for image generation. It's a piece of shit though and using ZLUDA is better, at least on my 7900XTX
>>103289068works on my machine lol
>>103289068>crashesdo these really happen to people? crashes never happen to me
>>103289827How much is native on linux? I don't want to rely on emulations layers for games or any programs I use
>>103289068people are willing to buy them if they are discounted. 7800xt has been an amazon best seller recently
>>103289068Imagine blaming your AMD for faulty RAM. My AMD never crashes and I even had the shitty 5700xt before getting 7900XTX
I have never, ever got problems like that OP and I've used a lot of ati gpus:9250x1650prox270xrx6400
>>103289844>nownvidia has always been a turd on linux, what are you on about
>>103296965>How much is native on linux?basically nothing
>>103296965>I don't want to rely on emulations layers for games or any programs I usewhy notwindows already comes with 1200+ unique compatibility patches for old software
>>103289068Obligatory works on my machine. I've had two AMD cards, and only experienced two crashes in 9 years. And one of them was probably the game's fault (Cyberpunk at launch)
>>103289068I'm considering upgrading my 1060 to AMD. I've had few problems on popOS but if I go team red I'd want to switch OS as well. Is it a crazy idea to switch to cosmic?
