Not really. S23U, S24U, and maybe S24+ if you're in the US, but you lose on camera still.

rec me usb-c earbuds. I still want my connection to be wired and the wireless ones are crazy expensive compared to wired. I just want them to listen to audiobooks and nothing else.
>>

The only screenshot I could find showed segmented bars for the cell connection, but Xiaomi has been slowly moving away from heavily customizing the notification shade (they used to have a GREAT battery icon that I colluded with a Russian Xposed module dev to recreate on my Nexus back in the day) so maybe they are just using the regular icons found on AOSP which would be less work to maintain each new version.

So after comparing a bunch of phones i think i narroved my pick to POCO F6 12GB/512GB
it's more expensive than my original pick of redmi note 13 pro 5g, but it has better processor and more ram, also higher nit screen
i looked at the POCO F6 12GB/512GB pro but that is another $100 bucks, it has POLED screen and 4000 nits which makes it hdr10 certified, but i just find it hard to justify as i don't play phone games and who the fuck watches movies in a phone and for just watching youtube videos on the toilet and in the bed i don't think i can justify that extra money
what do you think?

>>
>>103292868

>>
>>103293485
Do you want to pay the extra $150 for:

- 7 years of updates (until 2030.10. compared to 2027.10.)
- ~8% better CPU performance
- ~20% better GPU performance
- Up to 50% brighter screen
- 120Hz screen (vs 90Hz)
- Slightly smaller and lighter phone
- Slightly better camera in dark

I'd say Pixel 8 is only worth it if you'll keep using it for the next 5-7 years. Otherwise go with Pixel 7. It's not that big of an upgrade.
If you're not the type of person to keep their phone for at least 5 years I see no point in wasting money on a Pixel 8 vs Pixel 7.
>>
>>103293485
8 has a much longer support period. Useful if you plan on keeping it for a long time. Until 2030 for both OS and security updates. 7a has a decent but much shorter support period, losing OS updates after 2026 and security patches after 2028.

You'll probably have to replace the battery eventually if you keep it that long. Worth noting that GrapheneOS only supports models currently supported by Google, if you're thinking of going that route.
>>
>>103293485
>>103293782
Looks like I can't read, you're asking about 7a, not 7. It's basically the same phone as 7 anyways, just smaller, less water resistant and with a (subjectively) better camera. The rest of the points still stand.
>>
>>103293782
>>103293827
>>103293847
Thanks for the help. I've used my current phone for 5 years now, and I will probably use the Pixel 8 for another 5 if I do decide to buy it.
>>
>>103293782
>- 7 years of updates (until 2030.10. compared to 2027.10.)
If Google survives.
>>
>>103293978
lol (laughing out loud)
>>
>>103293978
It is a bit of a crapshoot with the incoming administration if the antitrust stuff will continue or just be dropped. Hopefully even if Google is broken up the company that receives the Pixel and hardware division can continue support. I'm not sure if they make enough money for that segment of the company to support itself.

Odd that Apple isn't being taken to task over the same sort of stuff, iirc the Play Store (and search monopoly) was their big complaint and a lot of the measures were to make it easier for alternative app stores to be viable. The App Store is pretty much the same monopoly on iPhones and iPads, with excessive fees (~30%) and no alternatives to it (outside the EU).
>>
>>103293978
They will. The push to break the Google monopoly is only there to separate Google Search/Ads, Chrome and Android. Google's hardware division isn't affected from what I've read.
Security updates are often entirely hardware related. As in, most phones don't get security updates simply because Mediatek or Qualcomm refuse to update their SoC firmware. That's the whole reason Fairphones at some point started using SoCs created for IoT devices, as those are supported much longer. Apple doesn't have this issue simply because they create their own SoCs. And new Pixels use Google's own SoC, so as long as the firmware gets updated there's no issue.
>>
what has been keeping Samsung to cling onto Exyshit brand so stubbornly all this time?
it was clear it's shit and utterly inferior to competitors even way back in early 2010s and never did sell.
But still they kept operating chip design team at a unprofitably heavy loss for more than a decade by now.
>>
>>103294230
You will eat the dogfood and you will like it.

Real reason: cheap SoCs for their shitty budget and midrange phones that /g/tards unironically buy. Also to fuck over Europe and save costs on flagships there to make more profit.
>>
>>103294163
It's primarily because of the entire ad network, and the search engine.

Google's ad network is sitting at around 95% market share / total money earned across all ad networks.
Their search engine is used by 85%-90% of users.
Their web browser is used by at least 65% of users (not counting other Chrome-based browsers).
Their web services (Youtube, Docs, email, etc.) have been caught degrading the performance of other browsers multiple times (main reason why Microsoft stopped developing their own web engine and switched to Chromium).
They've paid their way into being a default search engine in Firefox and Safari. So their only competitor web browsers and mobile OS are defaulting to Google Search. Which just feeds people's search data into their Ad network.

Apple, despite being a walled garden, isn't encroaching into other devices. As an Android, Windows or Linux user, you won't ever encounter Apple's non-existent search engine, their web browser, or their ad network. Meanwhile, no matter which system you use, your most common web browser will default to Google search, and thus feed your info into Google Ads. That's the difference between a walled garden with vertical integration, and a monopoly.

Besides, Apple is getting (justifiably) fucked by several different countries, and have already been forced into adopting USB-C and opening up their OS for multiple App Stores and browser engines.
>>
My phone has the 3.5mm jack and I use it to connect my cheap wired earphones to listen to music at work or take calls. Theoretically if I get a new phone should I look for one with a 3.5mm jack if I want to continue to do this, or is there a way people conveniently connect wired earphones to phones without a 3.5mm jack nowadays? Getting wireless earphones is not an option since I don't want to be bothered with charging and don't want to spend more than $8 on earphones.

Unless you are playing Genshin Impact on max settings for hours most phone tasks are done in seconds, whether it is loading a page or an app. Thus these stress tests which peg the processor at 100% for a long time aren't really indicative of real world applications.

>>103295396
You don't understand battery technology. After a certain amount of degradation you have two options: throttle the CPU so it doesn't demand more power than the battery can provide, or do nothing and the user then complains about "random" shutdowns that occur when the battery cannot provide enough juice. Apple got in trouble for not communicating to the consumer, other OEMs do the same thing or you get random shutdowns.

I mean... it kinda works so I feel a bit bad about ditching it but I'm worried since it hasn't gotten a security update in years and kinda lags sometimes when I use Discord (might just be the trannies code being bad though)

I had the same phone for 7 years (Android 8.1) and I felt the need to upgrade because of banking apps, and nothing else.

Why does my iPhone 16 PM look like this?

Gee whiz. It sure would be nice if the literal bomb built into every phone was easily removable and replaceable.

It's pregnant

Fuck it. I'll just toss phone makers a framework for the next standard. Normal camera, telephoto camera, removable battery. 3.5mm preferable. Sunken/flat camera array preferable but not mandatory. Everything after that, I don't fucking care. Cut all the wireless and reverse charging shit if you want. It's fucking retarded. Maybe get a better charging standard than USB-C eventually.

s25 plus is going to last 10 years if they get snapdragon over memexynos
s24 base/plus is a terrible skippable line, and you're likely not part of the 1% who needs the s24 ultra's specs
just wait a little longer

Oh right. Just have a merged SD/SIM slot. Stop fucking around and removing useful features in favor of garbage that's only appreciated by those who should be trepanned with a drill.

Best replacement for s23+?

keeping my S23U another year, hopefully the S26 series uses the chink battery tech.

>>
>can currently get an S24 Ultra for $800
Stop tempting me, Satan.
>>
>>103297713
For what? The price is gonna plummet when the S25 launches in about 3 months
>>
>>103291726
Don't get carried away. The S22 family has a dumpster fire of a chip.

2 actually, late January 2025.

Bought a Pixel 9 for $400, but I feel the phone doesn't have what I'm looking for as I'd really like a better camera package. Been thinking of returning it and maybe getting an S24 FE or something just to have a basic zoom lens. But the price is creeping where that $800 S24U is enticing.

Ok benchmark troon, explain how your SoC is at 100% for an hour?

The benchmarks that don't run for three hours say they have similar performance. Oh, with an edge to the older Apple chip? Oh my.

I really can't overstate it enough. I do not understand the point of an Ultrawide lens taking up space in the default camera package on lower end smartphones.

Can I use chrome to browse 4chan on an iphone? apparently there's no app for it.
