Is 64 MB of BIOS truly a necessity in AM5? Seen some models with it featured in marketing.
>>
>>108253315
AMD's pajeet coders are retarded so they have to put in a separate copy of AGESA for zen 4 CPUs, zen 5 CPUs, zen 6 CPUs, zen 4 APUs, zen 5 APUs, zen 6 APUs, etc
>>
>>108253315
A bios file is between 16-32mb. 64mb sounds like a "dual bios" feature that's often marketed on oc cards and mobos.

I have an issue that I suspect is caused by my PSU. Sometimes my desktop just shuts off without warning. No blue screen or something of the sort. Sometimes it reboots right away, sometimes it takes a while and it won't turn on for a couple of seconds/minutes, not even a quick turning on of the fans, just absolutely not sign of life at all when I press the power button. As far as I know, this points towards the PSU, but this happens about once day and everything works perfectly until the PC just shuts off out of nowhere. This can happen while gaming, but also when just browsing online. Before I run off to get a new 1000W PSU, pic related is my current system. I have 850W Corsair PSU. Any possibility that it could be something else or is the PSU?
>>
>>108253479
850W is fine for that computer
how many fans do you have? are any of them old? dusty?
the fans might be staling out and tripping the PSU
>>
>>108253492

I have three case fans, but they are around 7-8 years old. I just checked with typing this post and they spinning right now and I cleaned them from dust a few months ago. If it matters the 5080 is an Astral with a factory OC. The store page did say 850W is the minimum for this card.
>>
>>108253518
>7-8 years old
that's on the old side, check the bearing
I had a PSU do what yours is doing for a year and couldn't figure out wtf was happening until I took out the front fan one day and found that the bearing was completely fucked.
>>

The Astral 5080 has a factory OC.
>>
>>108253384
It's not an dual BIOS. This is a single chip die, and there are few boards with two 64 MB BIOS dies.
>>108253315
It's hard to say, at first they said it's because of built in wifi drivers, so you can make that retarded microsoft account online.
On other hand x870e Glacial does have an entire interactive MB diagram, which some say it's thanks to bigger BIOS.
It could be also because they need to fit all those Zen4-6 or even 7 models, Zen 6 seems like it will have way more SKUs than Zen 5.

Now that I upgraded from a 5 yo Gayming craptop to a PC I can firmly say that people crying about video game performance are third world or are setting their games to max settings when they are specced for middle settings. Every "poorly optimized game" has run smooth as butter and my cpu and video card have barely broken a sweat. It was all a grift, a new angle in the culture war.

the nvidia app voltage tuner doesn't work, but I did limit my 4070 to 75% power and had essentially no performance loss. if you care enough to overclock in a better program like msi afterburner there's no reason to use the nvidia app tuner.

I don't know what features I want man, that's the problem. I don't have a particular need for USB 4 but given this build will likely last 8+ years then yes I guess? Having 3 M.2 slots is great but all of them have it, and also 5 Gbps ethernet. Is the post code that much of a big deal over debugging LEDs?
Honestly all of them have what I actually want:
>more PCB layers for "allegedly" more durability
>good Realtek audio implementation
>antenna that works for bluetooth
>3 or more M.2 slots
>good VRM to deal with the 9950X3D
>button to release GPU from PCI-Express slot
>plenty USB ports
>5 Gbps ethernet
The requestion remains if USB4 is a big deal or not really, since I don't think there is any difference beyond it between the models.
>>
>>108254492
Displayport is a PCIe lane so you can run a cord from mobo thunder port to display for dGPU output if I recall correctly

nobody does and if you did you'd be using Thunderbolt instead
>>
>>108254492
you should build for now and the immediate future.
for example, if you plan on switching to Linux you should weigh AMD heavier than Nvidia.
if you plan on purchasing a Pulsar monitor you should purchase Nvidia.
but these are actions you should be taking within the next year at most.
I went B650 for my 7800X3D. I would have likely purchased mATX if I were to do it again, so a B650M.

I have a phanteks xt pro ultra case. Would it make sense to make a small plastic 30 degree "ramp" on the bottom of the pc to channel air where it's needed? 3D print or DIY from scraps of polypropylene and magnetic tape for installation. I already removed the HDD bracket but was wondering if the airflow could be directed and optimized with a solution like this. It will not be visible from the outside because the glass side panel has a black tint on the psu shroud area.
>>
>>108254724
I do use USB 4 for an external SSD
>>
>>108255050
I'd only do this project for the love of it, you won't see much thermal improvement for all that effort.
Undervolting + overclocking the GPU will get you all of the practical efficiency gains.
