Thoughts on Midea PortaSplit? It's like a mini-split, except that it doesn't require drilling a hole, and uses this hose(?) instead that is put through the window, the installation bracket for the outdoor unit doesn't require drilling either. Plus it's actually designed for euro windows first and foremost it seems, they're selling in primarily in the EU right now, not in the US.Either way, what's the best alternative for a proper mini-split if you're not allowed to drill a hole and you don't have dual-hose portable units in your country?

>>109126001I mean I found out about the PortaSplit because I got it shilled to me on the basis that it's good if you're not allowed to drill a hole and want it to be quieter than a typical portable AC in the first place
>>109125919Anyway the refrigerant pipe are normally made of copper, with this unit I guess it's made of some kinda plastic, that's probably the only real weakpoint, possible refrigerant leak from degradation.
>>109125919I have a daikin split unit in my commie block flat, the condenser is sitting in my balcony and even with all the (tripple pane) windows closed I can still hear it operating from inside the room, and it's even more noticeable at night. The selling point of that midea is that it's quieter than a traditional portable ac, but you still gonna have to keep your window/door open and the condenser will make noise. I also had a portable trotec 2.1 kw ac unit and it on the coldest setting (16c) it was as loud as a regular fan. Op, I think this midea is more of a marketing trick, just get a regular portable ac with a hose.
>>109126021>I got it shilled to medoubtful? which website did you download that pic with that specific filename? likely it was given to you in your shill package. i assume your response here will be for us to believe that you manually named the fileidrc about this but you should feel bad for doing this for compensation
>>109126037i run TWO portable ACs next to each other and currently sit very near it, yeah it makes loud noise so what? I even run my PC on 100% fan speed so it is the coolest while gaming and i can overclock to MAX. I was born in noise, molded by it. And actually it feels weird when there is quiet, you can hear birds singing and cars going by...

I feel like this thread is full of germans and yes, the porta split is perfect! Problem is, do you want to spend 800 bucks? + 5-10€ a day to run it for the summer?Heatwave will last 4 days. Let's see how july goes. Just be a man and rawdog it this summer, buy a portasplit in winter for 399€.

>>109126719>compressor is loudI don't know, in my country people put outdoor units of mini-splits under windows of their apartments without asking for anyone's permission quite often, nobody seems to complain. Is it possible that mini-split compressors are quieter?
what happens with the water condensation on these, is it like a dehumidifier where you empty a tub periodically, do they run the drain line through the same conduit as the heat pipe to the external unit, or do you just have to run your own drain line?
>>109126735The loser pays them so if they're suing correctly, you pay their lawyer cost

>>109126772They're quiet when they aren't broken at least, way more quiet than the giant ones that sit outside for central air that I've heard typically.
>>109126786Of course, but first of all, you need to pay for it from your own pocket before you win the case, and second, where I live at least, the court usually awards "reasonable" attorney fees, which the court almost always finds to be less than what was actually paid.In general, I'm indeed curious, where do average people get money for attorneys to actually sue someone? Every time I looked the prices were astronomical, unless you have savings that you're ready to potentially piss away. Where do they get the money?

>>109127056>Do utilities included rental flats not exist in europe?Of course not
>>109127004I mean I don't know what country you're talking about, but typically I would assume that a "few hundred euros" is for each hour of work by the attorney. To be clear, I'm talking about civil lawsuits generally, not necessarily this specific scenario regarding the AC noise - I think in that case it might be enough to simply report it to the police or something

>>109127227$300? Never seen such a cheap AC, unless you mean a window unit, which I can't install into my window. Mini-splits are great, but require drilling AND at least a free electrical outlet nearby to the wall-mounted unit, which I don't have. Portable units seem wildly overpriced, they cost almost as much as the mini-splits while clearly being far worse, and to be completely honest, I don't understand to how put these portable units into a tilt-and-turn window either.
>>109125919I have a Midea portable AC, not a mini split. And it's fine. I've only had one other portable AC and my parents got that back in the 00s. The Midea we got is 3-4 years old.

House liquid cooling
>>1091261505-10€ per day is way off, I'm using around 2-4 KWh, so around 0.5-1.5€ per day(Those numbers are probably correct for monoblock ACs, which are horrible and should never be used)
>>109126130show pic of your workdid it cause the AC to strain harder?
>>109125919I had a portable split(not midea) before I had my own apartment, and it's good. It's a lot more efficient than regular portable units. A lot better than dual hose units too. These are actual split units.
>>109127386>I don't know if I trust an extension cord for something consuming a lot of energyModern inverter-equipped mini-splits don't use that much power, like my high-end PC routinely draws more power to play a demanding game than the AC cooling the room in the summer. I've measured the power consumption out of curiosity and I've never seen it break 1kW and that's only in the hottest days and when the room itself is way above the set point too. Usually it's like 200-300W on a normal, sunny summer day.

>>109125919so eurofags are buying an air conditioner just to use it for a few weeks in a year?
>>109128368Being in a hot environment, and having cold air blown on you, is so much better than being in a cold environment, and having hot air blown on you. So it could be like a mini-vacation for them or something.
>>109128368I don't know why this is being made out to be such a thing here in Europe. I've had AC since 2009 when I bought cheap Chinese splits for literally $250 a piece. They are still running. I have not performed any sort of maintenance on them. Year by year, they just werk. And the supposed cost of electricity is retarded, because if you're not a braindead american you will not run AC 24/7. It is literally enough to run it for 2 hours per day, between like 1PM-3PM. Many European countries actually have cheaper electricity between those hours. So it actually doesn't even cost that much if you're not a fucking retard.
>>109127837Friday will be insane for us. But yeah, if you have and older mother and kids, just get an AC, shit is not fun in the summer. >>109128387Americans have to runb the AC 24/7 because otherwise the humidity will turn their entire house into one big piece of black mold. Never got the popularity of these threads. You can take a pic in Europe anywhere and almost every appartment has a an AC thingy hanging from the window. Maybe 20 years ago when it wasn't scorching hot every summer it was different but it's gotten pretty hot...And burger houses needing the huge boxes are silly. I'm sure they're more efficient but... it's just so weird to see borderline industrial equipment for a regular house. I mean if anything happens, you have to call someone to fix it, maybe even take down some walls.. fuck that. Pipes and wires are bad enough to deal with.
>>109126001honestly seems like a shill thread but honestly who the fuck would pay to market on 4chan

Bought a cheap portable unit the other day, modded it with a second hose by cutting the hose it came with in half, and it makes the day so much nicer. The one weird thing is I can't really sleep with it, and I don't know why. Last night I woke up after 7 hours of sleep, tonight I woke up after 6. Still better than I usually get this time of year, where I wind up sleeping outside in the garden where it's humid but at least there's a breeze. I guess it's the constant cycling of the compressor, next year I'll buy a fancier model with better hysteresis.

>>109125919What's the advantage of this vs a U shaped window unit like this?
>>109128445In parts of the US where it's this bad, almost all the houses have some type of central AC built in, whether it's duct based or preinstalled minisplits. I'm in the northeast where we usually only get a few weeks worth of heat and humidity that warrant an AC, and here most homes have a radiator system for heat, and either use window units or retrofit minisplit heat pumps for cooling.
