Smartphones are not the issue. The dumb normies using them destructively is the problem. My screen on time is less than an hour at weekends and only goes up when I'm bored at work. I have no brainrot apps. My phone is de-Googled and doesn't show ads. I mainly browse the web, listen to locally-stored music and go on 4chan. If I'm somewhere social, I only resort to using it once I realize I'm among normies that aren't intellectually stimulating. If I'm with my 2 close friends, I barely reach for it.
