Are Brave and Firefox still the only non-shit web browsers in the current year?
Yup
>>110020879Safari is the only good option
>>110020916It requires an OS that is more locked-down than even Windows 11, so a no-go.

>>110020879Oh boy, another spoon feeding thread. It must be out of your reach to do research. Brave origin specifically and librewolf are the only browsers worth suggesting. Pale meme is dead. Firefox is pozzed without running custom user.js configurations and gutting much of the browser itself.
>>110021081Not everyone is on GNU/+Linux to use Brave Origin.Librewolf and other Gecko forks lag behind with security updates.

>BraveThey had one job. ONE JOB. Keep MV2 support. Yet they rolled out that one update in the stable/release channel to all users that disabled all installed MV2 extensions and greyed out the enable toggles. The funny thing was that it was all cosmetic as changing some silly value in the element inspector made it possible to enable them again.
>>110020879still working on itshit's fucking hard....
Braves built in adblock is also fucking ass. It consistently misses a lot of stuff that ublock catches and it also bugs out and crashes the entire browser if you import huge filter lists. And they don't even seem to focus on privacy/security improvements anymore. They removed aggressive anti-fingerprinting feature for example. Please enlighten me if i'm wrong.
I tried so many times to switch from Brave to Firefox, but I just can't. It literally feels weird and sluggish, even though I really like the idea of using a fully open-source, non-Chromium browser. Chromium-based browsers just work betterEven when I read about things like site isolation and security, Chromium still seems to have the edge. I mean, Gecko has improved a lot over the past few years, but it still doesn't feel quite there yet
>>110021886why does it matter
>>110023033>I tried so many times to switch from Brave to Firefox, but I just can't. Chromium-based browsers just work betterI had the opposite experience.Used brave for couple of years on my old laptop (elitebook 840 g9 i7) and it ran really well.Bought a new laptop (dell precision 5680 i9 rtx ada 2000) and Brave ran like absolute shit on it. Jittery, CPU spikes, awful screen tearing, huge number of dropped frames when watching videos, pages slow to load. Tried all kinds of fixes but nothing worked. Switched to firefox and it runs sweet as a nut.No idea about firefox, as i never used it on my old laptop, but brave seems to have issues with certain hardware/drivers.
>>110023110That's interesting. What operating system are you using?

>>110021015How do I fix this? I recently had to start using an older laptop because the power socket on my newer one is broken and Firefox just fucking kills it's ram. Is brave less of a resource hog?
I would say best ofthe worst, not non-shit. They're both still shit, they're just the best shit. We're bound to get a non-shit browser eventually.
Every browser suggested is shit according to this thread so far, what is the GOOD browser?
>>110023429>almost no cpuUntil you open a page like https://www.ausspeedruns.com/ASAP2026/schedule
>>110022361They removed aggressive fingerprint resist because it was redundant, fingerprinting is tricky and only Mullvad/Tor can realistically deal with it, Brave’s solution was to randomize some of the information on standard and almost everything on aggressive but some trackers can pick up on that, so people using aggressive fingerprint resist were basically glowing in the dark. Tor has said that the only real fingerprint solution is to standardize everyone so no one stands out so it’s smarter for Brave to have everyone have the exact same amount of fingerprint randomization.
I think the “Brave is a crypto scam” and “Firefox has gone woke” narratives are kind of retarded and it all boils down to chromium vs Firefox at a base level as browser engines

>>110023601Here's your context:I run ublock origin and it only does this if i leave a tab with YouTube open for at least 24 hours. I think it's an interaction between youtube constantly trying to force ads and ublock blocking them that causes a runaway memory leak

>>110020879People on here will talk about how awful Brave and Firefox are, and when you ask what they suggest instead, it's their personal Pale Moon: Stallman the Hedgehog Trans Rights fork with extensively customized uMatrix setup and it only works on plain HTML sites from 30 years ago. Brave isn't good objectively and it's gotten more annoying over time, but still has yet to be so annoying I'd rather bother with something else entirely. Librewolf is all right and I use that sometimes too, but there's still moments when its privacy focus is gonna eclipse usability for most people

>>110029231Firefox on android having extensions is cool but according to grapheneOS it has major security problems on android specifically and they recommend brave there. So pick between security and extensions, both should block ads on Android just fine

I'd go with Helium (or another ungoogled-chromium variant that still supports MV2) or Firefox. Brave's ad blocker is still not as good as uBlock Origin.
All browsers are shit. Some are just slightly less shit than others.
