It's why Butcha coming back to this was hyped, because there is pretty much nothing like it with the level of old school visual novel depth to it in the visual novel industry. Closest next thing to it is the In'youchuu series and the other sci-fi hentai nukige Butcha did over the years for other studios. But I'd think part of why DPS got to be bold and novel was that it was entirely a passion project of a single man, rather than a studio game that has to play safe to avoid bankruptcy. You can think of the original Dirty Prison Ship as an indie game by that merit.

With only one truly evil main heroine, the game was never going to be about punishment for punishement's sake anyway; especially since -- storywise -- retribution is just a mean to an end, not the ultimate goal.
