As aforementioned, Town B's Onmyo Shrine became the INYŌKANAMARA shrine some time in the Middle ages after a wandering Miko of Kanamara saved the town from famine and natural disasters via an orgiastic fertility rite.The fusion of customs became highly influential on the Kanamara Faith's form of New Year Festival. In local belief the year goddess dwells within an Earth Branch each year (sign of the Chinese zodiac) and is a subordinate deity of Kanamara as such she must serve him sexually. Kanamara's spirit is said to dwell in all males, but a beautiful young woman is chosen by lottery to become the medium of the year goddess. The men of the shrine association will wear masks and ceremonial robes to pick her up from her home and take her to the shrine in a mikoshi-palaquin. Of course she cannot enter the mikoshi until she is purified and has lost her unholy virginity through being gang-raped by the men.
The new Miko endures numerous Purifications and sexual training leading up to the night of the Festival. On that night all men who get good luck on the omikuji fortune telling are allowed to enter the shrine and cum in or on the Miko. Those who get great luck are allowed to fuck her as much as they want for the rest of the night. Like in the Main Shrine faith it expected that a Miko will conceive from this and bear a healthy child as a good omen, but whether women who fail in this are punished depends on the year. Such is the generalized form of the rites.
The year goddess changes her form depending on the year's sign and the way she is embraced by Kanamara-sama changes as well. It is the present tradition to dress the chosen medium in a sort of cosplay of the relevant Earth Branch.In the Year of the Rat, the Miko is dressed thusly. A phallic pillar is erected on the shrine grounds and the Medium and two assistant Miko have collars placed around their necks with robes binding them to the pillar (perhaps a reference to the rat King phenomonon). For the first part of the night, the girls are not allowed to have sex though they have been pumped with aphrodisiacs and have vibrators inserted bringing them to the edge. Instead, they must first purify the visiting cocks, cleaning the dick of each man to visit the shrine for New Year's with their mouths. Smaller shrines are common in areas where Kanamara-sama is worshipped just as in other parts of Japan. Here part of the intention is that citizens will use them as public facilities for sex. Many young people in the region have had their first time before the phallic image of Kanamara in a small shrines such as this. These days, unused condoms are often left in the shrine along with other offerings which people using the shrine for sex can use. Used condoms are typically attached to sacred ropes in the shrine and also left as offerings.
In the Year of the Ox, the chosen Miko is made to wear cow horns and ears and often utilises cow print on her clothing. She is given drugs to induce and increase lactation in the purification period leading up to the festival. The refreshing milk she produces will be sold at the festival. On festival day she will be lead around town like livestock on her way to the shrine where she will be hooked up to a milking machine. Men with good luck will be able to use her holes even as she is milked. Meanwhile, a healthy ox is gifted to the Shrine Association as an offering to Kanamara-sama. The task of the Miko will be to milk this bull at the height of the festival. The Miko will perform paizuri on the ox's dick until she fills a large dish with cum. The bull represents Kanamara-sama for the year and she will be expected to down the whole dish of semen without leaving a drop.Incidentally, in modern times women who get good luck fortunes are permitted to "mate" with the Miko if they wish. If they choose to do so, they are given strap-ons made in the likeness of the cock of the animal corresponding to the year. Lesbians and S-type women are the most typical enjoyers of this. It is believed that in pre-modern times that the Miko may have been forced to mate with Kanamara in the form of an animal on the festival stage instead. This is the probable origin of the modern strap-ons.
