You can believe in God and still accept the overwhelming evidence of evolutionary processes and a lineage towards a common ancestor. What's with all the LARPers on this board, both Christians as well as Atheists, whi fail to understand the segregation of faith and science?
>>
>>16543133
No, you do.
>uh the reason was because of God
But there can be no reason why God choose to start creating at the particular time he did.
>>
>>16543256
I'm agnostic but Genesis seems pretty clear on the creation process taking six days. What could be the possible metaphorical interpretation of that if it isn't literal?
>>
>>16543307
The one I've heard is that time simply moves differently for God
>>
>>16543256
My main gripe with evolutionists today is that we suddenly have to accept that scientists know exactly what was happening 300 million years ago, know exactly how old the Earth is, know exactly how old the universe is etc. It's all theoretical but everyone treats it like it's indisputable. Half of humanity doesn't have access to electricity, we still can't cure cancer, we can't even create a decent electric vehicle but we think we have it all figured out suddenly.
>>
>>16543307
It's a parable, Jesus spoke in parables all the time and told the apostles why. Nobody in the early Church took Genesis literally, the narrative is still true. God spoke Creation into being, God made Man in His image, Man rebelled and was exiled from paradise etc
>>
>>16543313
You're acting like people just came to these conclusions out of nowhere. We have a fairly high confidence that we know roughly how old Earth and the Universe are through scientific consensus and finding evidence to support various claims. If you think those claims are wrong then you're more than welcome to challenge them with counter-evidence. But don't just say its wrong because God, that's lazy reasoning. God knows you're smarter than that anon.
>>
>>16543307
Listen I'm not a Christian, but I used to be one.
I don't think you have to take the Bible as being literally true about everything to be a Christian.
There is nothing in the Bible that says you must read religious texts in this way.
There are times biblical texts contradict themselves not even accidently, like how the Torah at numerous points contradicts itself because it is (probably) made up of several contradicting sources that an editor brought together (order of creation in Genesis 1 and 2 is an easy one to find where multiple sources is quite obvious).

I think the more fundamental thing that makes you a Christian (or religious jew) is that you believe the biblical authors were divinely inspired and deeper truths about humanity can be discovered by reading the biblical texts. This isn't the same as the evangelical view that God more-or-less dictated the entire Bible himself and the human authors served more as flesh-puppets to write it down.

So we can barely predict the weather today but you know with such assurance what happened 13 billion years ago? And all because of a feint hue in objects hundreds of millions of light years away?
We only found the city of Troy a few years ago, but dinosaur bones and ammonites wash up on beaches despite supposedly being 50 - 300 million years old?

It's educated guesswork but people treat it like it's gospel when they don't do any research either, they just believe the man in the white coat
>>
>>16543324
"The Bible" literally means "The Books" its meant to be a definitive text, but not one you're meant to take literally, rather one that became codified and standardized through centuries of scholarly debate and consensus about what is the closest to spiritual truth that is physically possible. Most Biblical scholars and clerics throughout history knew that the Bible was fill of contraditions and dubious translations, but the point was never to be an exact truth, just the closest possible thing to "the truth". Otherwise we would never have said debates to begin with. Christianity historically loved scholarly debate and encouraged it. Like you said, its modern evangelism that wants you to take The Bible literally.

No. Everything existed, it just used in a very dense state. A balloon doesn't stop existing when it doesn't have air in it.

Also, nobody knows what happened before cosmic expansion began ~13.7 billion years ago. There's an event horizon there beyond which, we don't have the tools to understand what was occurring.

Hope this helps in improving your understanding.

Wrong, and doubting it in 400 or 200 AD doesn’t mean the original authors didn’t take it seriously.
So sick of you people pretending genesis always means whatever the latest science is despite it not saying that. Seriously one of the stinkiest lines of bullshit I’ve ever seen, you’re a moron if you buy the Christian cope that it always meant to say what modern physics, geology, chemistry and biology says

We have a very "lateral" view of Biology (Environmental Genetics). Molecular markers (DNA) isnt the key feature here, and it will take many years before science is able to see between the Molecules to see the effects of sub-Particle manipulation of orgamisms.

Look you are not wrong in doubting some of the information about the history of life and rocks on earth, many pop-science fags exaggerate a lot of these things and say that they are dead-certain. But when it comes to analysis of data, in both genetics and geology we have had remarkable improvement in our analysis during the last 2 decades.
For example this (trichoplax adhaerens) is possibily a very far away cousin to the early ancestor of the common ancestor of animalia kingdom whatever that was. And the retard that made the picture then says "original form of humans and animals", which is just wrong.

it is kinda weird the Jews never found original sin in 2500+ years of reading Genesi, isn't it?
