I'll make a better tier sub than Tori next tournament.

>>7154422It's good to build the habit early. So many dads fail to do so and lament when they could've had a 200+ streak by now but are only stuck sub 50.
>>7154417Real life is a bitch though. No one can tell the furure.
>>7154422Allow yourself a getting out of jail free card is OK to me. Most of the people who play fair will eventually break their streak, get depressed and will stop drawing daily.

Streaks are a meme. This habit hasn't help me improve at all.

That one time Tonkers challenged Tub to a Shadow Duel over some senseless dispute regarding....eh, lima beans(I think iirc?), and Tub was winning the shadow duel and told Tonk Tonk that he was weaker than she expected, but then Tonkers placed a trap card face down which immediately changed the tone of the situation, realizing that Tonkers was always grounded and certain of his victory, even it had seemed to tub that Tonkers was going to lose so miserably.

Threads are at an all time low lately. I'm half convinced it's all one guy playing multiple characters with different posting gimmicks. All the posts have the same style and they're all just reaction baiting. Even tonkers came back. What's next, Tonyo? Is it because there's no IP count in the threads anymore? A lack of community camaraderie/morale? I kind of want a mod to come through here to do an IP check and ban whoever's doing all this samefagging.IMO this is all the same person:>Frauds on DAD have backup drawings>Banana will cross reference your IP>We need to talk about the nazis and pedophiles on DAD>DAD exodus is upon us>Tonkers renaissanceAnd more.

/dad/ always been a beg trap. Do you guys really think low quality art is going to result in high quality art?
>>7155405>low quality art is going to result in high quality artThis is literally how humans learn to draw
/dad/ has always been a beg trap. Don't you guys know that having a daily habit of drawing will make you draw badly forever?
/dad/ has always been a beg trap, but unironically. You should be drawing daily because it's fun, not because you want to maintain your streak, reach page 1, be on top of your house or to get a shiny new badge. Mixing intrinsic and extrinsic motivations like that is often a bad idea and you can end disliking drawing altogether after forcing yourself a couple of times just to avoid being eliminated. This is not a shitpost and I genuinely believe what I've said. If you disagree and have arguments that could convince me, please share.
>>7155535I disagree. The reason I got where I am now is almost exclusively because of extrinsic motivations. These are mostly outside of dad, but I like the house system and challenges. I think they impacted my practice positively. Though my streak and page position are almost completely irrelevant to me.
>>7155535I’ve already shared my sentiments about this over the years and each and every time I’ve done so it goes ignored followed by some comment talking about /dad/ lovers leaving comments on their art. I’m not going to bother sharing my input on the site and one of these days I’ll take the ideas I’ve always had and make my own version of /dad/.
>>7155535The streak is a job you're forced to do daily, It's not about having fun. Some days you'll like it, some days you wont. At the end of the day you're improving.

I vaguely remember him mentioning his own site for posting drawings and getting critiques from the communityI mean, go for it Anon, it will be epic to watch regardless if you'll succeed or crash and burn. But I don't think it's a reasonable strategy nowadays, when anyone who wants to make an image just turns on AI.
>>7155588I think you're talking about Massive Black (or some notable group) who came back briefly to make their version but they quietly died off in a corner and gave up.
>>7155535Drawing stamina is like a threshold that kind of needs you to feel uncomfortable to get past. Maybe your goals are just keeping art as a hobby...
>>7154650Add the /beg/ trap anon to the list
I know a lot of people new to art want to grow to be great artists, but the data simply shows that art is a talent, not a learned skill.I'm sorry to say just as your personality is genetic and unchangable, so to is your art ability. Case in point, just look at how many DADs you consider good started off good when they joined the site. And how many page 1 and 2 DADs who's art looks amaturish never grew in all the years they were on this site.Yeah, you can point me to one or two that did grow, but they grew rapidly fast. That's because they're genetically gifted born artists.I'm sorry, but if you're bad at art and haven't grown, that's how you'll stay. You're still welcomed here, but honestly maybe deviant art is better for you. I have years of experinece on this site and science so I know what I'm talking about.
>>7155633 I mostly agree with you. Unfortunately, they say that all men are created equal but you look at me and you look at Samoa Joe and you see that that statement is just not true. You see, if you 1:1 with someone else you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal, so you got 25% AT BEST to beat me. And then you add Urazi to the mix and your chances of winning go drastically way down. You see, with a three way at Tier Tourney, you have a 33 and 1/3rd chance of winning, but I have a 66 and 2/3rds chance of winning, cause tableguy KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try. So you take your 33 and a third chance of winning minus my 25% chance, and you got an 8 and a third chance of winning at tier tourneySo then you take my 75% of winning if we go 1:1, and you add it to my 66 and 2/3rds chance, I got a 141 and 2/3rds chance of winning at tier tourneyThe numbers don't lie, and they spell DISASTER for you.
I refused to believe Art isn't a learned skill. All shapes can be measured. All colours can be extracted. It is not some mysterious enigma that cannot be learned. If it were not measurable by these metrics then Art could not be produced. It is a fact of being that Art can be done by anyone.
>>7155633the science:trust me bro. to me that sounds like cope. artists do stagnate, and I pray I'm not one of them, but I don't believe these artists have all reached their hard cap. I get more the impression that the cause is getting stuck in habits. at some point, they lose the will and courage to press on and repeat the same movements over and over again until they are cemented in their brain.
>>7155646That's true, but no human has the brainpower to juggle all these variables at the same time. You have to internalize them all and they have to form a coherent process in your mind. I don't think that's something anyone can do. I mean if you have the time and patience, you can construct a complex piece of art, but it'll look rigid and mechanical
>>7155658How is a circle not rigid and mechanical?
>>7155645Yes, I looked at the science and it said I can't learn art. You're right you'll destroy me.>>7155646Science says that's true, but science also says that when you try to unify all these factors into one cohesive unity it becomes exponentially harder that your brain has to be genetically fit to be able to do so. You just have survivorsihp bias.>>7155653Yes, anybody can make great Music, but as science shows some people are born with a brain wired for it, but the rest, they have to learn to rewire their brains and that process is incredibly chance based and not trainable, especially when you consider the fined motor skills that is limited by the brain not your milage. sad but true. science.
Most people just lack the observation and will continue making the same mistakes regardless of how many studies they do. It's not plasticity, it's either a lack of self awareness or lack of care.
Go generate a drawing in a style you like with AI. Then go and draw the same idea yourself. If you can't make your drawing look better then you have no hope of being an artist and that's just the cold hard truth.
If you can't count to 10 and name all the colours of the rainbow you will NEVER become an Artist.
i dont care if i am genetically predisposed to be bad at art i just like to do it
On my 4th day as an absolute beg and remembered this thread exists, here goes
>>7155679Cute. Great job, anon.
DAD EXODUS IS UPON US
Who is this science guy that the baiter keeps mentioning?
>>7155670I have several reserach documents and professor interviews showing that the lack of brain plastic is the cause for people's lack of growth in general regarding art.>>7155674This is a good test, science has shown this to be a good method.>>7155676Good, you wont havef to live with existential dread of failure.>>7155679out of a sample size of art school students, those with this sort of style tended to not achive the high end of scores at the end of the year. this was one of the proofs that art is a talent not a learned skill.
>>7155684It's peer review research from ivy league institutions. This fact is unquestioned in the scientific community.
>>7155679Forgot to specify, this drawing is mostly a redraw of an in-game sprite, probably makes it not count as an actual drawing, i have others but i don't wanna post those yet
>>7155691This drawing says enough. Your other drawings may be better, but they'll still be lacking the fundametnals that takes a drawing from good, to awe striking. And mostly that talent comes from God, not human knowledge.
This woman. Pip Taylor, 49. Tried all her life to draw but couldn't. She even went to art school and was told she should pursue a different career.Years later, she fell down a flight of stairs and suddenly she was able to draw masterpieces. This is proof that no matter how hard you try you can't get good. It takes talent, and talent comes from how your brain is wired. You're born an artist, not made into one.
>>7155701A bad copy is not a masterpiece, retard
>>7155701it could have been her ability to notice that eyes don't actually look like that lmaoSome people are utterly tone deaf, and in my experience it's from underestimating the effort required and overestimating the results they think they deserve.
>>7155702??? Do you not see the before and after? She didn't just "copy" her old work, she reinvented it into something so lifelike and perfectly proportioned that she couldn't have possibly learned that. This is either talent or a divine gift. This is the defintiion of a masterpiece.
>>7155701>>7155704Thanks anon, Im gonna go give myself brain damage so I can learn how to draw
>>7155704she's copying from a reference photo All of her work is copying. Even amateurish for realism tier.
>>7155703She didn't notice or change anything, she just fell off stairs and suddenly she could draw. Only talent can explain this.>>7155705Please don't , falling off stairs is more harmful than one thinks, I just wanted to show proof you don't "learn" to draw, I don't want anybody getting hurt.
>>7155709Yes, you can use many references to understand how a face works, but to actually put all those different faces into one that makes sense and is not a grotesque mishmash of human body parts is not somthing that anybody can do so easily. You don't seem to understand this.
>>7155709This is her. That was only when she first fell, but she developed her talent and learned professional realism. Nobody on this site yall have can draw this way and neither could she until her accident.
You made a very convincing and compelling argument, anon. Why try anything at all if you can't be perfect or the best at it? I guess if the end result for everything is predetermined by "natural talent" and there will always be someone better than me at something, there's no point in doing literally anything ever. Why work out when world-record breaking Olympic athletes exist? Why go to school or learn a trade if smart people like Einstein already changed the world? Why try to get better at art when the masters have already set the standard? I'm forever grateful you showed me the light on this 4chan board, now I can sit at home and stare at the wall until I die like a good little boy.
>>7155712hgfghghf hlkjadl jklkj yrurghhhhh
>>7155728I don't want to get political, but yes, why would you have people with no talent spent 100k dollars on art school only to fail and work at mcdonalds? Are you going to pay for it? No. You just want to feel better about yourself that you told someone to try when the reality is their brain can't draw like Einstein any more than a baby can lift like Amold schwatzanegger. It's just not physcially or mentally possible. I'm here to tell the TRUTH. You just want to pat yourself on the back you made someone feel good. You made them feel good and broke.
All of you have survivorship bias. The Pip Taylor case should've been proof enough but you can't change peopel who are stuck in their thinking I guess.
>>7155701So in the end she succeeded? Thank you for this inspirational tale.
>>7155743She succeeded AFTER her accident, not BEFORE! This PROVES one needs TALENT to succeed not training!
>>7155747So what you're saying is. The longer you practice the more likely it is you'll succeed?
>>7155737I actually hope you hit your head, maybe you'll be able to think now.
art must be so miserable for people who feel the constant pressure to perform whereas I extract maximum joy by shitposting
>>7155754No. Pip Taylor practiced all her life and still drew like a child. She even went to art school and was told to leave because she was so bad. When she had her accident she was suddenly able to draw realistically WITHOUT practice. The fact you don't get this is remarkable.
Dont waste your time with art if you dno't have talent. I advice yall to pursue something yall probably have talent in. just search. These peopel aren't interested in your well being and future outcomes. They just want to circlejerk how good they are at drawing with each other!!!
>>7155758It really shows that at some point it will all click together and you will be able to produce good Art. I'm happy that she got to experience the change in herself after all her hard work.
>>7155765SHES 49! Even if you were right it TOOK HER THAT LONG! It's too late for her now! I know most of you are probably in your twenties and already amazing artists, but that's because yall had talent and didn't have to work for what you have. You're the obnoxious little crap I'm talking about when I say you just want to feel good when you tell people withotu talent to try. Yeah, they'll try till their 50s and by then they're too old to make anything meaningful of their skills. Disgusting.
Awful people. You didn't work for what you can do, you were born with it and don't even realize it.
>>7155772You know what's crazy? I was in an office with a couple of boomers and I was watching them type things one finger at a time. You know like something out of a sitcom. It's crazy because I would think most modern people can type complete sentences with ease without looking at the keyboard. And this is a skill you can acquire without intentionally learning to do it. If a computer is a part of your life you'll master it without thought. I think it's the same with drawing if you have drawn all your life and are still bad then I would doubt that drawing is as big a part of your life as you proclaim. Something I know is very common with Artists is them going years and years without drawing. Decade long breaks. I find that interesting I think they would still consider themselves lifetime artists.
>>7155777I think you're right. If you do something long enough you can at least become average, but .... but wait... there's an incoming transmission ... this signal though.....
Who could be... Wait, is that.. is that Tub?! Why is she's commanding a space ship!? Where was she all this time!? Uh, wait... Where's Tonk?! I don't see him!
A message on the screen? No. An image. What is... YES! It's him! Tonkers! But he's stranded out there somewhere! But how? Why? What happened!?Wait, something's happening. We're losing signal. Quick! The coordinates!
Ah, she's getting sucked into a gravity well! We're losing them again! It's always like this! It's too late!
we lost them...again...damn it....

>>7155588>>7155591Massive Black Inc tried to make a new conceptart.org but the internet has moved onInstead of a small forum where everyone interacts and comments on each others stuff long term, it was a site where pros and people with big followings would dump their work with "and remember to follow me on Twitter/Instagram!" and then never post againEveryone else rode their dick trying to get a response back, but none of the /beg/ threads got any interaction at allPeople forget that one reason CA was so great was because shit like twitter, instagram, tumblr, artstation etc didn't exist and so it wasn't about just another way to "build ur brand bro"
Why is the thread like this? This is boring
>>7155820Tier 1: Torino other tier.
>tfw no 49yo cougar milf to teach her how to draw
If you draw nothing like this I don't even consider tiering you.
We never really got to see much of tub's character development. She was a relatively new character with a mysterious past. And that mystery is what makes the death of the artist even more tragic. We'll just never know who she was on the inside. The most we can assume is that due to her red eyes and white skin schema, she must've been some laboratory test subject given that albino rabbits are synonymous cruel animal research. Which is pretty sad when we think about what happened to her. I'm glad tonkers is taking care of her. Giving her a life of joy even though she can be annoying to tonkers from time to time.
Tubs character looks like she lives on the moon.
>>7155829Yeah, I don't know if >>7154697 was being genuine, but what the fuck is happening is this thread right now? It's like four guys all trying to be the funniest person in the room with their off topic bits

>>7155986Wow I thought I was the oldest active dad. I know j's in his 40s, but he's intermittent to say the least

There's a dedicated DAD thread for slop traders.
>>7155405>Do you guys really think low quality art is going to result in high quality art?no one (not even >>7155407) thinks that.>>7155535>question: have there been /dad/s who have forced themselves multiple times to draw to maintain their streak when they weren't otherwise motivated?answer: yesconclusion (1): forcing yourself to draw multiple times doesn't necessitate that you hate drawingconclusion (2): if a /dad/ forces themselves to draw multiple times and ends up hating drawing, it's not the website's faultconclusion (3): /dad/ is not a /beg/trap
>>7155860I would say that's a bit more literal than symbolic. In the first appearance of Tub in Tonkventures, we find that Tub was a girl witch little recollection of her past and was motivated to discover the reason for the traumatic situation she lived in while growing up.To that end she had discvoered she had origins in the moon. But when she traveled there she was not able to make it back to earth. Tonkers ended up tryign to rescue her but ended up getting stuck there as well. Naturally because Tub is an empath she greatly regretted getting Tonkers caught up in all this, but Tonkers reassured her it's not her fault and that he'll find a way out for both of them, even though Tonkers was skeptical of that idea internally.
Later on, the author of Tonkventures accidentally leaked an unreleased second page to the chapter. In this one it's revealed that while they were on the moon, Tonkers recalls the past where he had a mission to kill Tub's parents, however she ended up coming out to see what happened and found her parents dead and Tonkers standing there with blood on his hands. Tonkers wasn't a cold blooded killer though, her parents were criminals and he had to do a necessary deed. However seeing the girl there he felt great pity and sadness for her so decided to take her in and told her he had just come here to help her parents but it was too late. It's kinda fugged up to think that the reason for Tub's affliction is the very person she's closest to. Tonkers.
>>7155829All the good memers were chased away and now you're stuck with the guy above me.
And after this accidental leak we had another chapter that shows Tonkers was addicted to smoking. We can't help but to infer that this is due to him trying to distract himself from the memory of what he had done. However, Tub catches him smoking but the ever quick thinking Tonkers played it off as if the cigarrettes were just candy cigarretes.Had the leak never happened, even we might have been fooled, but now we know that Tonker's leisurely demeanor is just a facade.

Which int+ artist on dad do you guys think is growing the fastest?
They're all stagnating.

>>7156566can't wait to see your jump from d to c tier buddy
No tier tourney until tier lists are posted.
>>7156072Listen, this is not a hot take. But if you want to create masterpiece you first need to create masterpiece that looks like shit. Not low effort, low quality, shit doodles.
i'm worried about tier lists
>>7156575>can't wait to see your jump from d to c tier buddyActually I was B tier last time, but thanks!I wish I could show you my scores but the certificate for dad.zone expired on 11/16/2023.I still don't get why they insisted on creating a whole new website just for showing the scores and critiques, when a google spreadsheet would suffice.
what is tier tourney i'm newfag
>>7156640it's a tourney with a tier list at the end. Unlike thread tier lists, this one is made by a couple of judges collaborating and trying their best to be objective.it's very educational (you can get critiques from judges) and fun. If you're F tier, you didn't finish and it's a badge of shame. If you're C tier, you're no longer someone completely new to drawing, but still a /beg/If you're B tier, you're no longer a /beg/ and dad's start to care about your opinionsIf you're A tier, you're still /int/, but good enough to make a living with your art if you have insane work ethic. You're also popular on dad.If you're S tier, you're /pro/ tier. And most importantly all dads want to suck your titties/dick.
i'm even more worried about tier tourney than tier list now

Theme specific challenges that last for a whole month are retarded, and probably an actual beg trap.Imagine drawing fish people or unicorns for a month. It wouldn't surprise me to see artwork of those who participate noticeably decrease in quality over time, or seeing numerous wip submissions with minimal progress between them. Not judging those who participate, but the challenges themselves. There's probably a bunch of dads that will prove me wrong.
>>7154362
>>7156813"yeti in a snowstorm" is just the "polar bear in a snowstorm" joke but with a yeti
>>7156904Still more creative than "your character standing/sitting there and doing nothing".Besides, just because a similar thing was already made by someone else, doesn't mean it wasn't creative. Otherwise everyone would deserve 0/10 creativity score.

I just like these characters a lot. Sure wished to see what the original artist was going to do with them but... well, we know what happened to him now.Well, here's hoping he sees this and comes back for one last tonk.
comes back from the grave I mean. Like a zombie. i hope he turns into a zombie.
He didn't do a very good job communicating what was going on here, but after a while it's understanable that Tub stole his pie. Which kinda sounds dirty for some reason.
He was quitting DAD here for some reason. He wasn't really getting any response up to this point so one assumed that was the reason why, however at this point it's doubtful that that was the sole reason.
This was when he returned. After this point he started recieving a lot more replies. I think he had a lot of lurkers, I don't think it was pity. I never thought Tonk was a quitter. His character is positive and optimistic.
Tbh his stuff was kinda idk how to explain, with the whole replacing works with "tonk" and all. Abnormal and idk.
Anyways his return was just more Tonk.
Then we were introduced to Tub. He said it was a "new" character although it's clear he had this character already in the works a long time before.
Although nothing would be done with her for a while. Just more Tonk. His Industriousness is commendable. Idk how people do it. Creativity and work out put, but also he had an eye for aesthetics..
I say creative, but really it's nothing but anime tropes. Which is fine, copying is what makes people successful, especially in art. What matter is being able to add onto what you copied, and he did that successfully.
Then we got a DAD comic challenge. Which was constructive in getting Tonk to do more these characters. And now we got to see more of Tub.
Story telling requires conflict, so that must be what spurred him to use tub now. I'm glad the comic challenge was created, it let us see more into the inner worlds of these characters and gave us hope to see more of the outter world and their history at a later time.
I think the artist had a lot to tell about his characters and their world. that's what makes them so alluring. Everything from the band on their arms, the bunny ears, and even the infinity white background and blue shading tells us there's so much that surrounds the nature of these characters that needs to be revealed.
The expanse of his world is made clear when he introduces a dark background to tub.I like stories that can be fun but also have a dark, serious undertone to them. It just hits both sides of human nature that I think without makes peopel imbalanced.
And now he shifted to something more lighthearted again.I think with the right vision this could be turned into a very memorable and striking movie or show of sorts, with emphasis on how teh setting and situation tonkers is in conspires against him. And how he as an innocent soul with a good heart manages to navigate through this great omipresent pressure .
The infinity white and blue shadows as a key aesthetic feature greatly emphasises the need to see the setting as a character of sorts itself.Tub's albino appearance is indicative of a lab rabbit who has expereiments performed on it. When we consider that her white skin matches that of the background than naturally one woudl draw the connection with tub seemingly always being in a lab environment. Which tells us her emotionless condition would be the result of her never ceasing to be out of inner turmoil.
Here he took a reprieve from tonkers to pursue other ideas. Unfortunately it was his last work before he tragically left us. These were characters with much to say left unsaid. But these endings aren't uncommon. Many fan favorite shows will no longer have their endings known. Berserker most famously, as well as others I wont mention.
Many of you have stories you want to tell too. And It's likely a percentage of you will also suddenly disappear never having told your story just as Tonkers had.
wtf
As mentioned, there have been many series that continued like zombies after their creator's death. However you know in your mind whatever is next isn't what ACTUALLY happened in the story, as it didn't come from the mind of the creator himself. it's more of an alternative telling. And it's what we have to make due with. If we're fortunate enough the creator had left notes of how a story ends, but even then it's maybe half the real picture. In this case, if we had wanted to continue the tonker verse, there are still many things that nobody but the original artist could explain. There's simply no deducing from the content left behind why Tonker always said "tonk" to everything, as well as the mystery behind this particular comic strip.
>>7157848are you tonkers?
There's a lot of problems that arise from any attempt to independently write the tonkers lore. Most notably the lack of understanding as to why tonkers says tonk all the time. This would be so central to the character that to fail to understand the basis for this personality quirk is to make an unfaithful depiction of Tonk.however, upon lenghty reflection, it's clear that Tonkers does not say "tonk" in the comic strips. As such it's not necessary to understand why, it may have just been some casual humor by the author for his pinups.
bro just draw some fanart or something
>>7157890I suck at drawing, but eventually I might just be desperate enough for more tonker content. Litearlly been months since this guy disappeared and there's only been one fanart of tonkers. This is a problem.
>>7157874This whole tonk analysis is the best content of these threads in months. Like its genuinely a good thought out interpretation. I hope tonkers himself will see this someday.
