If you watch enough anime AI should be detectable as AI immediately. It's less beg in drawing but more beg in aesthetics. Same goes for detecting faux anime. It should happen in less than a ~second of glancing at the thumbnail in most cases. Watching cartoons only increases this disability as I've noticed. If you've watched a cartoon made in recent years you need heavy detox.

that's a good start for week of drawing, to preface im not good either but i have struggled a lot with heads when i started as well and improved. for now, keep drawing things you like until it becomes a habit. Then, after you know the basic rules, you have two options: the first improves at a reasonable pace while still being fun, which is breaking down anime heads and practicing constructions. The second is faster but more prone to burnout, which is studying the skull and real heads (I'm currently doing that). last thing, another pitfall i fell for was rushing my drawings, take at least 30 min on each head and critique it afterwards. take my advice w a grain of salt and good luck!

Yes and no. I am timing myself just to get an idea for how long it takes, but it's not like I have a bomb strapped to my chest. That said, I have a pretty limited time daily to work on this stuff, and I end up wanting to do a bunch of different drawings.

jannies might be gang stalking here so i don't wanna post it. it was a simple composition with 1girl drawn by the character designer of the anime the girl was from
point is, there's so so much happening in even simple looking drawings by a master. it's overwhelming for a beginner to get it really accurate in all details .

since you like bleach you could take your favorite panels or illustrations and recreate them along with these copies of faces/standing poses. not everything needs to be a super long copy. you can spread out the complex copies over days and switch it up when you get tired, overall you're going to get much faster with time.

the number is just for comparison of what can happen, to not be discouraged if it feels long. it's fine to take long since you're gaining experience. it's gonna train your eye to not gloss over details or symbol draw.

I'm going to give the opposite of this Anon's advice and say draw faster. Draw the pose as fast as you humanly can. Don't time it because "as fast as you humanly can" varies wildly from person to person and from pose to pose. Do it 20 times in a row until you get one that looks kind of okay. Then add the details onto your personal best. You can do these in tiny thumbnail form if you want to speed up the process even more, then when you feel you have an understanding of what makes the pose work, draw it full-size.

its pretty much breaking down the object you're drawing into simple 3d shapes, a common way to approach the head is a sphere for the cranium with the sides chopped of and some sort of trapezoid shape for the jaw but there are other ways too, you can explore them on pinterest and experiment until you find one that's intuitive for you.

I've heard that too lurking here, they dont directly translate but they are still the derivative, its much harder to make sense of the simplification you see in anime unless you have a good understanding of where it came from, at least thats how it worked for me. otherwise you'll be copying lines without knowing why the artist used that specific line or why the nose is placed there etc, you can still be successful without it, just takes a little longer for our brains to connect the dots trying to understand the abstract rules of each artist more than with skulls, it just might be boring at first.

thank you! it took around 35 min, then i spent another 10 min adjusting the eye area, i skipped a lot of the construction steps for it since this was a front view angle, but you can search 'anime head construction' on pinterest to see what i mean

Been drawing since 4 years, and I just swallowed my pride and decided to do Krenz exercise (shape accuracy), and noticed my angles are always off by like 10 degrees, worst case was like 20 degrees, and it is been very diffecult, I'm still not sure if I'm cheating way too much on this exercise or not. one thing for sure, it made me more humble, I'm stuck at the "/int/" stage where I'm kinda good and people on twitter like my art, but I feel like a hack and don't know how to draw and I was feeling like I'm stagnating, so I just draw until something looks good. Decided to go the absolute basics, shape accuracy, and this fucked me way too much. guess going to the basics won't hurt. so I'm gonna do a couple of these a day until I acheive 90% angle accuracy

It's weirdly static, and the lance thing looks like it's going between the guy's arm and body rather than being thrust through him, although these issues are also present in the original image.

The girl also looks bored and the guy mildly inconvenienced - I would push basically everything about the scene more. You've already put quite a bit of work into the image though - it's not easily fixable at this stage - so I would start over with a loose and energetic sketch. Don't worry about accurately reproducing the original, because it's not very interesting.

Good point, I don't actually know the answer to this, I just know that I was told to copy stuff from anime/manga I like daily until I could do it accurately enough, then start drawing from imagination. What about some of the action poses in the settei? There are quite a few, I had just been doing the easier ones first to get comfortable with it.

One of the most essential techniques to learn when drawing is how to "see the 3d space on a page". For that you will need to learn perspective and construction, those go hand in hand together. While it is fine and encouraged to start with simpler poses and angles, if you're not mindful of the fundies and exercising those brain muscles constantly you are sort of wasting your time with simpler copies. One popular resource is drawabox, something you can do alongside these copies.

All design choices. Given that the pose is stiff, like you said, a lot of clothing folds, or any, are not necessary to communicate the drawing. It’s still clear that he is wearing a shirt and that’s all the artist wants you to see. I also disagree on it being flat. There’s perspective on the shoe, clear overlap on the arm, and the thigh looks rotated. The forms are there but not emphasized because the contour itself already tells what it needs to.

This is what I use. Don't overdo like a schizo. I still reccomend you to draw what you like but fundamentals will teach you how to draw forms accuratley and will help you be more comfortable. Again, I also reccomend to just draw something from life or use a reference of a real person.

The ratio is up to you, different things work for different people. It depends on how much of a studybot you are and your goals, so you must find your own work balance.
As I mentioned, do drawabox. You don't have to do all of it, but I'd recommend at least finishing Lesson 2, as everything you will learn there is a must going forward. Consider everything you learn there as expanding your tool belt, be mindful of it all and make sure to bring and apply the knowledge to your copies.

Here is a wip of mine from imagination so you know I'm not bullshitting you. I'm nothing special because I don't draw or study much anymore but progress was quick and steady when I did.

Modern fantasy setting where people can gain power from historical myths, and it is a streamlined process, regulated and catalogued by a world organization. Story follows a boy who has one of these connections, called a Divine Concordance, but is the only one in history to seemingly not have it match anything on record. Probably about 20-30 minutes as I tried a variety of hairstyles, not sure because I don't time my stuff. Speed comes naturally with time and practice, so don't worry about it, it is a bit of a dumb metric.
By comic you mean manga? Already having a clear goal is a good start. Copy your favorite comics or mangaka, once you have fundies you can start studing their panels and page composition as well. The things you need to study vary a lot depending on what you mean to accomplish as an artist, and so does your training regime.

You don't need that from a single guy. You want to copy them for stylistic and workflow reasons. Stuff like perspective and angles come from dedicated studies on the topic, where you implement what you learned from the copying alongside everything else.

Beginner here, can someone tell me why my drawing on the left(ref right) looks so unappealing?
It's like there's some fundamental aspect of shape design that makes my drawing look ugly but I can't quite place what it is.

Didn't think I'd get to draw today, so this is a "bonus". I am trying something multi-day as suggested, and am also trying to apply the construction concepts you guys talked about. This is what I managed to do so far, I will post the ref in another post, please let me know what I can do to improve.

Gave it a go to warm up. References of walking poses are helpful. More than anything I suggest thinking about how to make the overall shape and silhouette read more interestingly I think. Even if your anatomy would still be wonky, changing the angle would result in something more appealing.

Look at anime figures or 3d models and see how the hair is sculpted. It's design and an application of forms that can reasonably exist in reality. In 2D illustration you don't have to worry so much about every strand making sense but grouping them into "chunks" helps make it feel believably have volume, fall on the head and face AKA not flat.

For me, it’s Krita. The best image editing program. I even ask for extra brushes and the community is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for extra plugins and they gave me three. I said, “Wow, three for free!” and the nice friendly lab tech laughed and said, “I’m going to call you 3-for-free!”.

Now other artists greet me with “hey it’s 3-for-free!” and ALWAYS give me three plugins or brushes. It’s such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local art online community, I go there at least 3 times a week for art tips and a large download of ink brushes, 1-2 times in the mornings on the weekend, and maybe once in the evening when I’m in a rush but want a great experimental brush that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily rendering needs.

I even draw my fries in Krita image editing software, it’s kino! What a great program.

apply those fixes to your drawing. the practical part is the most important part in learning to draw.
the theory and logic about drawing is important too. think about why those fixes help. say you made the eyes too close together, spreading them apart helped. why? balance, facial harmony. why are the eyes big in the first place? makes them look cuter. think about bigger concepts as they apply to all the fundamentals of drawing.
keep the fixes in mind for your next drawing so you don't repeat the same mistakes.

After some thinking, I came into the conclusion that people who "draw in anime style" can be generally divided into two camps, illustrators and animators. Illustrators tend to put more focus in the details, while animators' focus are the shapes/silhouettes. Naoki Saito is an example of an illustrator-minded artist, and hide channel & Anime Shijuku (Anime Private School) are animators by trade. I'm not saying that animators can't draw good detailed illustrations because there are some great animators/illustrators like Tatsuyuki Tanaka, Yoneyama Mai, and tarou2. Hiro Kanzaki of Oreimo/Eromanga Sensei is also originally an animator, but he switched career and now an illustrator. So yeah, I think learning from animators is the best path (for me). I hope I can make it in two or three years.

They get recruited by Seisaku Shinkou/Production Advancement 制作進行 on twitter (it's basically Miyamori's role in Shirobako, go watch it if you want to know what they do). Seisaku is kind of like an editor in manga industry, seisaku's job is contacting animators, offer them to draw some cuts for a certain episode, receive the cuts from the animators, send them to the episode director and animation director for check, and send the cuts back to the animators if the episode director demands a retake. Different episodes have different seisaku so you might only get offered to do this one episode because some seisaku know you through twitter, or you might get a contract to join the project for the whole season by the デスク (desk/chief seisaku). The numbers of animators in the industry are not enough to meet the demand, that's why they have started recruiting foreigners and beginners who never went through the traditional career path (専門学校/vocational school -> in-between -> key animation).

The neat part is if these seisaku are animation fans, so they often follow some like-minded animation otaku. For example the Animation Producer for Sono Bisque Doll (who his career as seisaku at dogakobo) follows me on twitter although I'm absolutely a beg.

So if you want get your works known, be active on twitter especially the animation community by following a bunch of animators (Japanese and foreigners), anime directors and seisaku (they often put 制作進行 in their bios). Make friends with some foreign animators who have made it in the industry. Some animators like @LissBevs even translated anime guide resources that they share for free.

Yeah in the end it depends on what you want to do with art.
I'd say even for those who want to be illustrators studying anime character designers' work (i.e. settei) is a great boost to experience. Illustrators can be really hard to decipher while in anime director corrections or settei the shapes are in their "pure" and most clear to understand form.

Probably a combination of things. There were points where it seemed like his output was high considering the quality. A few of the characters don’t seem to have the exact correct outfit, much comes off as intentionally so, a couple didn’t. And the fact the accounts he’s made are all relatively new, I think. Obviously plenty of people could probably pump out his quality of work, but I suppose it’s just a bit hard to not be suspicious. I’d mostly decided he was legit, but thought 2nd opinions would be helpful.

Coloring and faces and body types and the way he draws hands are consistent throughout all his works

AI tend to make pupils and irises different or a bit jank. They can be slightly different colors and the pupils can look like weird blobs. His eyes are crisp and the shinies make sense

AI will make hair disappear or blend/curl back into itself. His doesn't.

AI is very bad at doing small details. The emblems drawn on his artworks for armor or belts or something look perfect. This goes for swords as well, AI is very bad at making the hilt/handle of the sword symmetrical, but his are fine.

This guy is more consistent than I'll ever be. What's sadly likely is that his art was stolen and used to train AI models. Remember that accusing real artists of AI shouldn't be done lightly and that you should have a smoking gun or a ton of evidence before doing so. It's super damaging to people's reputation and the more people that get accused of AI, the less people will be ready to actually witch hunt those who use it.

You will naturally improve in speed over time as you get more familiar with drawing, so don't ever worry about how long it takes. The only thing to remember is not obsess over redoing a single thing for hours in a single drawing because that will actually take up all your time
