My PC is fucked and I cannot be arsed to fix windows anymore. Does anyone on /ic/ use linux for their art? Post your work.

If you haven't already been using Linux... Then you should just stay with Windows. If not, then well, welcome to "why the fuck isn't this working" whackamole adventures

I use linux mint, it's similar to Windows.

Yeah, that OS breaks all the time, I became a code monkey, python dev trying to fix linux thru the terminal.

If you think Windows is bad you'll hate Linux.

Install Linux Mint, install Krita, install tablet drivers

Use Krita etc.

But before all that shit, have you tried running system file check on your windows? Because it could solve problems

depends why you dislike Windows...
Windows is designed to be used by the lowest common denominator, if you have issues navigating through a retard-proof UI that is second only to MacOS and you start to get confused when you encounter a submenu, or don't know what a submenu is, then yeah Linux is probably not for you.
if you like or at least can tolerate tinkering, are reasonably proficient with computers, or can use google to find a solution to a problem, then you'll be fine with Linux. the upshot is that if you want it your Linux installation to do or look like something, you can do it.
I use Krita, I don't game much besides a few things that are already compatible, and I hate EvilCor- I mean Microsoft, so I'm tipping into Fedora Linux as my daily-driver OS after Win10 support ends.

any distro with KDE is gonna be reasonably similar to windows, at least on the surface. for most, that's enough. picrel is KDE plasma 6.

There's a reason why all serious artists exclusively use the Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display and the Apple iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR Display.
linux is for fat losers.

>or can use google to find a solution to a problem
Let me tell you that's fucking stupid. Googling will usually lead you to the most retarded "solutions", even more so with ShatGPTs abound. Just run it with sudo etc etc.

What you should do is read the damned manuals. Unless it's something like systemd shit's straightforward. Now, there is small caveat. When you're starting off you'd have to read a small encyclopedia to get your bearings, because a lot of knowledge is interconnected and sometimes you have no fucking clue what you're looking at. Bash, man, find, make, less (or more), cut, mount, and builtins that you won't even know how to get help for, like history or jobs.

Or yea, don't open any hatches and just use the UI. Wacom support is built in, you don't even need to install their "official" telemetry malware. As Todd would say, it just werks.

Depends on what kind of user you are and what is important for you. What is your idea of a working system?

As for myself I use arch linux since several years and it works well. I've learned a lot about how things are working (the terminal is a really mighty tool, all the cool kids are using it).
So I don't need help from swellheaded silicon valley corporations and have to trust them blindly.
Archlinux has a nice repo especially for graphics software btw but is more for advanced users I fear.

My recommendation:
Just look into the distributon charts. What is the most popular linux distro for beginners?
When possible put it on a usb drive and test it until you are sure you can cope with it.

If Windows pisses you off Linux will send you through the roof. Just reimage your PC and don't load it down with crazy stuff, run Defender, and disable the peripheral OneDrive shit.

Did you seriously recommend people on this board to learn something extremely technical, when 70 percent of people here can barely learn to draw a cube?

Last paragraph. The takeaway. It's boring how hassle free Linux currently is, especially if you use Wacom.
