"just draw" is bullshit made by pretentious retards who dont want to actually give advice but also answer someone with something simple so they can feel smart

it completely ignores all the fundamentals like shapes and shit that you need to learn before you can actually draw something

"just draw" is how you stagnate for the rest of your life

It has been said, time and time again. Chris thinks he’s hot shit and that his art is what everyone should strive for. Of course he’s not going to improve because he not TRYING to improve.
>>
>>7758873
if you need guidance why dont you try fun with a pencil?

he just draws genius

He can draw normally. This is just his style.

>Being so mentally deficient, so fucking retarded to think "just draw" means "never think and self-critique".
>Trannigger never improved in 15 years after creating shitty doodles from memory without questioning about perspective or body proportions or anatomy EVER
If you still do that shit after a year you're truly the very definition of inferior. I am sorry but God cursed these people.

Your sort of right. It's a meme but still there's a deeper meaning to just draw which can be lost on nodraws
>>
>>7758896
Yeah, let me take advice from some dead boomer who drew 50s newspaper cartoons. That's totally relevant today. You're just another fundamentals drone who can't think for himself and parrots the same useless shit everyone else does. Post your work, let's see how "fun with a pencil" turned out for you.
>>
>>7758921
what would that be?

Go bait somewhere else.

I accept your concession.

if your iq is above 100, just draw works.

its better to draw than to not draw at all. Its like how you going to learn to swim if you don't go in the water to swim? but i understand.. that's not helpful advice to just tell someone to "just draw" instead of actually giving specified advice.
>>
>>7758951
Youer
>>
>>7758960
That's a terrible analogy and you know it.
If you just throw a kid in the deep end, he doesn't learn to swim, he fucking drowns. You need an instructor to teach you the fundamentals of how to float, how to breathe, how to do a proper stroke.
"Just drawing" is the equivalent of flailing your arms in the water until you get tired and sink to the bottom. You're just practicing how to drown.
>>
>>7758965
if that's the analogy, yes, it is to weed out people who say they wanted to draw but actually don't.

>>7758965

>but JUST draw doesn't work
Then change it into "also draw".
>If you just throw a kid in the deep end, he doesn't learn to swim, he fucking drowns
That's why you learn swimming in shallow water first, how do you think humanity learned all the swimming techniques in principle? There's always a starting point with a lot of experimentation.

Of course you don't need to rediscover perspective and anatomy because those are the fruits of thousands of years of evolution, discovery, debate and practice.

Thing is, whoever you are or anyone else ITT is, you must take paper, start drawing, and think about what you did and how you could improve it.
>>
>me when the advice of "just draw" flies over my head
honestly, i think you fuckers deserve what you go through with how much bullshit i see here.
>>
Do you guys actually think "just draw" means "LOLLLLLL HURR DURR DRAW BOX OVER AND OVER AGAIN"? Cause if you do, then honestly fucking it probably is over for you if you're that fucking obtuse. If you asked someone "hey how do i build muscle and get healthy" and they reply "Go to the gym" Do you faggots actually think he means just go to the gym and just stand there for 2 hours?

>>
personally, I think "just draw" should only be said to someone who doesn't draw.
>>
>>7758873
op cant grasp the concept of "just draw" lol
It must suck to have a monkey brain
>>
>just draw
>have to stop and find a reference for a hand in a specific position with no word for it
>just draw
>have to stop and find a reference for the character I'm drawing from an angle that cannot be found in youtube videos
>just draw
>an hour passed
>barely even have half a body done
>>
>>7759035
That's usually the case though. Most people are lazy and retarted. Most people aren't even drawing consistently and that's the first step. Obviously structuring your practice time and focusing on your weaknesses and the fundamentals is going to make that time more productive, but that's not the problem most people have. Usually when people are told to practice consistently they say they can't or they don't have time, and call the advice bad advice.
Because a person who's actually actively working on becoming better isn't going to ask super general questions like "how do I get good." or "how did you get so good". They,re going to be able to ask more complex ans specific questions and receive better advice. The "Just Draw" advice is for people who are lazy.
>>
>>7758873
I agree, quality of your practice is just as important as the quantity. If you're aware of your weaknesses and actively try to overcome them with every drawing, you'll improve faster than someone who just draws mindlessly constantly.
>>
>>7759085
dang tell us you're useless and non resourceful without saying it. Its not that hard to look at your own hands... or maybe take a picture of yourself/hands at a specific angle. Are you really that retarded? Monkey brain am i right?
>>
>>7758873
It doesn't mean anything, to improve you need to focus on a specific shortcoming.
>>
>>7759195
so now its "just draw and take a picture of your hands and then send the photo to your pc to use as a reference"?
>>
>>7759182
its worse than that, I am talking about people who are seemingly terrified of even putting one line on paper for some reason, be it for the fact that they don't want to waste time or be made fun of, but I feel we get a lot of that here. If you wanted advice, its easier to have something for others to go off of to know what skill level you are and what type of preference you have. Although to be fair, you are pretty exposed when you post your work and you don't always get good advice just because of it.
>>
>>7759201
Yes. i just have a solution to your pitiful problem. If you had any knowledge of medical terminology.. maybe you could skip the "take a picture of yourself and putting it into you pc" and go straight to "just draw". But unfortunately your iq is only a single digit.
>>
If you're here, at /ic/, then it can be assumed you have access to everything you need. Nothing useful can be said to you. Most people who CAN get good just need to hear that it's POSSIBLE to get good outside of a structured academic setting, and to be pointed to resources.
The problem is, overwhelmingly, most people can't self-direct in the arts. Artists take it for granted that people like drawing as they do, and can figure out how to solve creative problems. They assume if the interest is there - genuine interest - the skill will follow with time and practice. Just draw.

The fact of the matter is, no, you're not supposed to draw lines and boxes and other stupid shit, or abstractly practice "fundamentals," until it's okay to "start." You start, and then figure out if you personally want to draw lines and boxes and other stupid shit and you practice "fundamentals" on the job. Most people need to purchase a course or hoard tutorials, hoping that a financial commitment or a cache of knowledge will spark real interest. Figure out if you're like most people.
>>
>>7758873
Does chris chan even draw a lot though? I don't think I've ever seen anything from him that wasn't the comics, and there aren't really that many issues of them
>>
>>7759203
It looks like you tried to foreshorten one leg , but it just looks awkwardly short compared to the other one., Her shoes and waist don't make much sense either
>>
>>7759206
When people say “just draw” what they mean is copy other artists, copy references, and use an art book for direction. When you tell someone to “just draw” and they start doing the stupid box in a void or lines shit, It’s like saying “just lift” to someone, and they go pick up the 2.5lbs dumbbells and do 100 reps bicep curls on their right arm only. Nobody who has half a brain expects these people to be so stupid yet they’ve been duped by morons who either don’t draw and think references are cheating or have 100s of deviantart pictures made over the course of 10 years with no improvement.
>>
chrischan is mentally retarded, in the medical sense. it's like comparing yourself to a downie. maybe you are when making this low-effort clickbait to satiate your need for attention, attention your parents never gave you, nor anyone really

Horseshoe theory. There’s no real difference between people who don’t draw and those who just draw. We’re all terrible.
>>

You know, for how much of a drooling retard Chris is, and how seemingly incapable he is of learning, there's actual improvement over the years.
>>
>>7761527
Thats the funniest part of all this.
Just draw unironically just works.
>>
>>7758873
What if you did the Saito Naoki method but with Chris as the model artist? Could you learn to draw like him?
>>
>>7759219
No. Chris does the comics and maybe a few other supplementary drawings here and there but there's never any attempt to improve. Pretty much every drawing she does she considers perfect on first go, I highly doubt she's ever gotten frustrated and thrown a drawing out/restarted it.
>>
>>7758873
Not if you got talent.
>>
>>7758873
stop posting this ass cancer already and find good work to improve or inspire you to become a better artist, but posting retard autism just to make you feel better about yourself contradicts why we're here trying to learn---from more advanced sources.
>>
>dont feel like drawing
>too guilty to have fun
>just sit and do nothing all day
>still exhausted from stress
>>
>>7758873
Exactly, you just proved why just draw is the best advice for a beginner. You tell a person about the fundamentals and they want to know which ones to focus on, which teachers to learn from, which masters to copy, which tools are the best, which style should they follow to not halt their growth...

But you tell him to "just draw" he'll discover what he wants to draw on his own and as he sees flaws he'll naturally gravitate towards resources as he needs them rather than being overwhelmed with the massive amount of topic he could start with. Like how you realized you need to work on shapes, now you have a goal that you've given yourself based on your practice, not what some random person on the internet (probably not even Japanese) says is the magic pill to learn.
>>
>>7758873
>it completely ignores all the fundamentals like shapes and shit that you need to learn before you can actually draw something
You learn all these concepts by drawing, not before drawing, you moron. What you are describing is the act of hearing about the concepts, not LEARNING them.
You still need to put in the practice, which is the most important part.
The JUST in just draw doesn't mean you have to draw mindlessly, it means you should shut the fuck up already and go practice drawing.
You low IQ idiots are fucking insufferable.
>>
>>7758873
"just draw" is good advice for reasonably intelligent people
if you have fucking eyes and a functioning brain, you can look at what you did and make corrections
you can draw from life or from reference and compare your results
you can think critically about the work you like and decompose it into chunks you can practice on your own to achieve similar results
"just draw" is useless for retards
but retards are also not going to get there with detailed instructions and hand holding, so fuck them
>>
>>7761824
>retards are also not going to get there with detailed instructions and hand holding, so fuck them
That's the exact point of the term "just draw". Not wasting time on people that aren't worth wasting your time on.
>>
>>7761824
So what's the point of this board then?
>>
>>7761867
I dunno. Self loathing?
>>
>>7761867
Giving critique to art that is actually posted.
Just draw used unironically is a reply to people that ask stupid questions and never post their art.
As with any other topic, there are also bad actors that use it to stir shit and troll.
>>
>>7761867
Light feedback is still useful, but an artist needs to learn to trust their instincts otherwise some literal no draw might offer up a theory crafted curriculum that could sound reasonable to a beg.
>>
>>7761881
> Giving critique to art that is actually posted.
lol since when
