I made to the finals in a short comic contest. For the final round i have to go physically there and sell my comic to the audienceHow the hell do i do it without giving away my identity?I live in south america. Wouldnt using a facemask attract way too much attention? Its an opportunity to get my career off the ground but i dont wanna sacrifice my anonymity
>>7764220>Its an opportunity to get my career off the ground but i dont wanna sacrifice my anonymitySounds like you have a choice to make.
Send your mommy to do it for you
>>7764223Using a facemask?
>>7764231Main reason to keep anonymous is that my family would think my work is ridiculous. Even though its just a short historical comic.
>>7764220>Wouldnt using a facemask attract way too much attention? If you need to sell comics physically, wouldn't that be a good thing? What's the issue? Are you a convicted felon or something? Just wear the mask and sell the comics.
>>7764244>If you need to sell comics physically, wouldn't that be a good thing?lmao im retardedwould standing out help me sell more? wouldnt people think im just weird for wearing a mask after the coof?
>>7764220Dress like a relevant historical figure? Beard, mustache, eyebrows, etc. You could go full face and make some weird persona, but I expect people are less likely to buy things from someone with their face hidden. It makes it more difficult to interact.Or, go as yourself claiming to represent the author, who is too busy to attend performing some act of historical significance. You could hand out signed "photos" (that you have drawn) of your imagined author.Either would be interesting.
>>7764261Ive thought about the second, I simply think i cant keep up the acting for too long.Ill risk it and go with my face hidden. Even if i dont sell much the jury will choose the winner
>>7764265It may be that the jury will interact with you, too. Is it really so terrible for your family to learn you've drawn a winning (but daft) historical comic? If they flip out, you can draw a comic about that, too.
>>7764294I think its some meme-trauma thing were i never let them see any of my creative projects because i think they will see it as dumb. Older sister used to pick on me for my drawings and some dumb pokemon fanfic (0 humans) i wrote on paper. Ive never been the same since. I dont have even a little bit of resentment against them but i cant let them see anything i make kek
>>7764294>It may be that the jury will interact with you, too.Eh, artists tend to be quirky, they'll probably let him remain anonymous, and let him use his pen name.Though they may want to know who you are, just to make sure they're not making their winner some convicted plagiarist or something.
>>7764220stop this larpingwe know you just wanna flex that you made it and is successful and you pull this PRETEND card of yours to dunk on us beggers here
>>7764332its a small contest dude, at best ill make a bit of money lul>>7764315Yes i used a pen name for my submission and they were ok with it
>>7764332And i dont know if ill win first place yet kek
>>7764220Nobody would probably care. I wish there are comic contests or community in my country.
nobody fucking cares who you are and your family would never really hear about this unless you brought it up
>>7764240just do it and don't tell themthey care less than you think
>>7764220Just do the Japanese thing: COVID mask, baseball cap, maybe sunglasses if it's still too obvious.Wear something nondescript like a plain fruit of the loom T-shirt in a solid dark color or a solid color hoodie if the temperature allows. If you have the funds don't wear something you actually own, go to Walmart or something and just get plain, cheap clothes. Whatever the cheapest shoes and pants are etc. and put up a sign that says: "No pictures, please." Even if people dontake pictures of you it won't be too easy to make out who you are or what you look like and hopefully the whole routine will discourage people from taking too many pictures of you.
>>7764345>>7764348pyw then, so we'll see if you're worthy of 1st place
>>7764385>>7764396>>7764461It happened to me once that an acquaintance of a family member recognized me in another event. Luckily i wasnt a participant>>7764490Cap and a covid mask are enough right? I feel self conscious with sunglasses>>7764493I could draw a girl from the tower girls thread to avoid posting previous work. Keep in mind that the skill level in the contest isnt really high. its a small thing
>>7764847>It happened to me once that an acquaintance of a family member recognized me in another eventSo?Why fucking care, do what you want
>>7764240Dude, fuck your family. Im in that same boat. I love them, but dont let them controll you by their disinterest in your passions.>Hey what are you doing tomorrow?Translation>Hey, let me be the judge of whether your plans are a waste of time or not.
Your folks probably dont give a shit enough to look up videos of a comic book contest in another part of the globe to see that you wandered off over there.
>>7764866It means it could happen again>>7764918I feel you anon. ;_;Im pretty neurotic so i cant just be one of those people that say "fuck it".the event is on november. Ive decided that i will simply go like pick related. If anyone asks about it i will simply not reply
pic*>>7764949Its not on another part of the globe, its a local indie scene.
>>7765072Then say you're off to fuck a hooker in a hotel then. who gives a shit.
lol if I won some podunk art contest the hard part would be finding a way to tell everyone without sounding like a douche. I'd love my lovers and haters to see my succeeding at something I love but wouldn't say if I was
>>7765119Im not the kind of person that can just say "fuck it". Too neurotic>>7766474To be fair i dont really have any friends to talk about it. And ive already mentioned the deal with my family lelTheres a girl I met in highschool who sometimes replies to my messages after one or two months so theres that
>>7766575>Im not the kind of person that can just say "fuck it". Too neuroticThat sounds like a 'you' problem that you need to work on. Its time to grow up man, i say this with respect, this is clearly something you need to start doing or you're going to be stuck in arrested development.
>>7765070>It means it could happen againSo? Are they going to honor-kill you or something?
>>7767521How do you even work on such a thing>>7767552Probably gonna think that my work is ridiculous or something.I made a mistake, by historical i meant that my comic takes place in the past (the 80s) and its a bit silly sometimes
>>7767649are you blind? you are right where you need to be to work on it by making this decision to go to the contest. Its right there right in front of you.any time your nervous system flairs up, thats where courage is needed and thats right at the edge where growth is at. Right there. every time you do courage, it transforms into confidence. I'm giving you a textbook example of how you develop confidence. Its made when you do courage in an area you're unsure about. When you do that, your nervous system rewires itself. It deletes old wires and makes new ones. It hurts because fuck man, its the god damn nerves in your body. Why do think people stress eat? The body is burning energy rewiring. After you make this decision, you will get somthing to eat and sit and wait, while you feel your body rewire itself. That is literally what it is doing. Nervous breakdowns is that, its a rewiring process and all you can do is sit and wait until the repair is complete.I'm providing you with nothing more. Anything past this would be co-dependence.
>>7764240Your parents won't care if you win and get money. Get a mask that's flavorful to the time period your comic is on if you're really concerned.
