I don't care much for that figure, but the presentation of it in that image is quite nice.
>>
>>7764780
Is there a good explanation of the difference between:
1. real-life human
2. photos of real-life human
3. figures
4. photos of figures
5. giant statues like gundam from far away enough
6. photos of giant gundams
There must be technical differences, right? Assuming no background and bananas for scale.

I’m not trolling or anything. Legitimate curiosity.
>>
>>7764816
There's no difference at all, except humans are built properly more often than figs, and photos only allow you to use one angle for pov and light source as ref.
>>
>>7764816
My uneducated guess is that photos can be limited by the focal length of the camera, so you’ll need to keep that in mind when selecting photos (of figures or otherwise)
>>
>>7764839
That’s my point. It’s always a bit hand-wavy explanation. Like people keep posting the face got fatter for different focal lengths.
But does it apply to photos of figures? Photos of giant gundams? Does it matter?
How about irl human vs figures? Drawing figurines vs life drawing, what’s the difference?
How about mirrors?

I’m sure the correct answer is a mix of perspective, math, physics, and how cameras/eyes work. Just haven’t found a proper explanation.

That thigh gap is absolutely horrid. Does anyone find this appealing?

>But does it apply to photos of figures? Photos of giant gundams? Does it matter?
Yeah, Focal length changes the way an image is made, so the results are fundamentally different. The perception of distance is vastly different between a wide angle and telephoto; the wide angle makes everything appear farther apart, while the telephoto compresses everything and makes it appears more flat.
>mirrors
A regular mirror(flat) Will follow normal perspective rules - that is to say, a object placed 1 foot in front of the mirror will appear to be 1 foot "behind" the mirror. Pretty sure Scott Robertson's book has a a bit about mirroring.
>>
>>7764816
You could read about tilt-shift photography. It's a method designed to make normal-sized objects seem miniature. It involves manipulating the differences you question, and so any explanation of how it works may answer your questions.

These figurines always make me wonder about how they are made. If a production company wants to make a figure of [insert character here] drawn by [insert artist here] and a contract gets signed, does the artist normally provide more data in terms of measurements or some kind of pseudo-360 drawing of the character and the production company figures out the rest.... or is there some other process involved?
>>
>>7766877
Probably 3d printed resins, and then hand painted
>>
>>7764889
It's very efficient. The baby just falls right out of there.

My camera is shit and I am not good at taking photos but got a couple of dolls (and a bunch of figurines) so I could try posting some nice poses if I can.
They are very cute irl but idk if I can get good images. it wouldnt hurt to try though.

Pic related, my dolls.
Tell me if anyone is interested in any specific doll and I will try my best tommorrow to take some cute reference pictures.
>>
>>7766912
Id be interested in the girl on the left if you are able too anon
>>
>>7766879
Sorry, I guess my question is does the production company handle the literal 3d dimensions of the figurine itself? It has to, right? Cos an artist wouldn't necessarily know how to do that?
>>
>>7767009
While there may be some differences here and there depending on the actual type of figure, you should watch this video on how they make
Nendroids: https://youtu.be/JFCPqLmJraI?si=35rD7ik9V5BaKc55
From the information they give you can kind of guess how the general process of figurines are made. Although I imagine if there is a more direct collaboration, lets say a company wants to make a One Piece Figure, but the selling point is that its based on a pin up specifically made by Oda as part of a collaboration, then yes Oda would have to do more then just a sketch he would have to at the very least do a turnaround of the design to give a general layout of what the figure would look like in a 3D space, and then the production company would have their own artists create a functional prototype that actually implements 3D
>>
>>7767009
You have sculptors whose job is to take the artist's original 2d work and make a prototype out of it.
Nowadays most prototypes are 3d sculpted and resin printed and once it gets approved they make molds out of them for pvc.
You can see sculpting groups show off their work at WonFes hoping some company takes their work and licences it for a proper fig.

Anon I'll get on this soon but I need a brand name NOW
>>
>>7769437
Brand: "Asleep Eidolon". Specific Face "Ding Dang" (weird name but its a chinese brand).

If you want to buy one there are 1/4 and 1/3 scale options this is 1/4. Be advised that this type of doll is not off the shelf, once you order it will take a few months to be produced + faceup needs to be done too wich can take an extra month (painting the face and makeup on). You can go default company makeup or let someone else do it Then of course clothes and wig are seperate.

Finding a store isnt always easy, I ordered through a small us doll hobby store even though I am in europe
