How do you make art friends? Having a pal at my level seems like it'd be nice. I'm basically just starting.

What do you need art friends for? They will just keep you down with their crabbing
>>
>>7770741
it's hard to make art friends. Most people above you will look down on you and consider you a bother, and most below you will either be pestering leeches or jealous.
Also different people learn at different speeds, so even if you manage to find someone on your level, they'll either fall behind and quit seeing you progress, or the other way.
Your best bet is to join some small art community and interact with people often, preferably if they do more shit than just art, so you get real friends who happen to make art, rather than art friends.
>>
>>7770741
How will you react if you make an art friend at your level and they get a magic growth spurt, start speaking to you less and less and then one day they go “anon who?” sitting on their 90k followers and counting? It’s better to see everyone as just another student.

holy shit just tell people to kill themselves like a normal person

Hang out in livestreams, then start your own livestream you'll garner a little crew who's trying to make it... but make sure you actively try to keep connected a lot of artists have an introverted/ avoidant personality and will ghost you. I used to have a ton of art friends like 10 years ago now Idk if any of them made it or not- can't even find their old social media.

Would things really be that bad? Seems pretty pessimistic. And they wouldn't have really been a friend if that happens.
>get real friends who happen to make art, rather than art friends.
This is mostly what I want anyway

same the threads i seen here about this making friends online seems like a cup of depresso. I dont really know how to apporoach this. Do people find more success with finding friends from art challenges or jams?
>>
I had a few back in my tumblr (porn) days. As a woman it's probably easier, but the easiest way to make art friends is to browse the lower view count of Twitch's art scene of people who draw similarly to you. Most people on there are hurting for friends.

Plus, true friendships made there end up lasting for a long while.

Most of my art friends are dead (?) so I just started turning my normie friends into art friends. It's fun converting them into caring about art, but most can't actually back up what they say. So it's more of the eye thing and less of the hand drawing thigns thing.

Woman are better at making friends in general. Less competition and far better socialization due society forcing women to not be antisocial losers that stew in unwashed clothes for weeks on end. Men tend to only see friends as transactional relationships so its no surprise they don't make any genuinely friendships.
>>
>>7771153
Women do better at making friends because everyone trusts them more and treats them better because of their vaginas, that's it.
>>
>>7770741
small communities are how i make friends for literally any hobby.

i used to do so on discord and amino (vomit, don't go on amino) but now i'm frequenting smaller sites (roleplaynation is one of them)

i guess tumblr is also a good option; it has community making options so you can just join a community and go from there. idk about livestreams/twitch, that seems like a huge timesink for a huge possibility of getting nothing out of it.

I tried to make an art friend from one of these threads and they ghosted me I think. They kinda artmogged me, but I didnt mind. Do you wanna be my art friend anon? I don't care about skill level or anything.

Girls smell like copper. Boys smell nicer

Sure. But again, I'm basically a beginner

That's okay! How should I contact you?

Do you have a preference at all? We could use discord

Hate to break it to you, but- if your “friends” crab you, those aren’t friends.

if I wanted to make art friends, I would probably hang on art discords. But I've wasted a lot of time on Discord so I tend to avoid it.
>>
>>7770741
Be sociable in your nonart clics and ask around. Let them know you're an artist. Post some based things and see if they agree so you don't get a spergy tard.
>>
>>7771610
I have no nonart "clics".
I thought this site was for friendless loners?

>>7771540
Yeah that's fine, what's your discord?

If anything, it's the unaccomplished and nodraws that crab you. Friend or not. People possess no sympathy in this day and age so don't expect people who didn't get through it to be able to help you in any meaningful way on the journey.

I'm /beg/ tier. Who wants to be my friend? I don't do crabbing.

I can relate to you OP. I'm enrolled in live model drawing classes (2 sessions of 3.5 hours each), and everyone there is a complete beginner (would get called a prebeg here) except one older guy, who is maybe beginner tier (again by this boards standard). I am by no means high level, I'd say I'm low-intermediate in some regards, I've only been drawing daily for around a year and a half (but I study A LOT), despite that I stand out so much. But that one guy I mentioned recognizes/acknowledges my skill and gives me compliments like "your lines are very steady" (and then I give him an QRD on how I did it). Nevertheless I don't like talking to other there, not because I don't want to, just because I feel like I'm automatically talking down to them, like I'm doing laps in the kiddie pool and then talking to the kiddies with their inflatable bands.

idk just felt like sharing, thanks for reading. I hope I will someday meet someone my level, or to be honest I should talk to the guy I mentioned, he's pretty chill.

in my experience, every friend i start something with eventually quit and i am left by myself.

Just keep going forward and you will find people next to you.
