I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask for this.

But I would like suggestions here from animators, I'm familier with clip studio paint + TVPaint + opentoonz, and I would like to create a new animation software studio focusing on frame-by-frame animation with a full-on pipeline (storyboarding => animatic => frame-by-frame animation => painting => compositing shots with effects => video editing)

both compositing and video is just something I'm not planning for now, but maybe one day we could add it.

my basic plan is to take everything good from these softwares, and just mush them togather, the focus here is "perforamnce is #1", and also remove any unecessary bloat (like rigging and stuff like that)

would anons here migrate to this software? or do you think this is something not needed and you would just keep using your current software?

what made me look into this is that I looked at the clipstudio paint team, the animation capibilities of the software is almost impossible to improve unless they develop something from the ground up. (funding is not a big issue for me)

I only care if there's layers and vector tools and fancy brushes
I like moho for it's brushes but it's also a pain to use because frame by frame has no layers, just a single timeline. Wick is good for layers and my preferred vector tool but it doesn't have any features beyond that and is buggy

I'd Suggest adding the scrubby zoom and canvas rotation tools from photoshop
i fuckin despise having to tap away close up 5% at a time with a key bind
being able to manually adjust the zoom by draging my stylus across the screen gives me so much more control on the zoom without breaking eyecontact with my drawing to fiddle with the zoom percentage menu
same with the rotation tool sometimes i just wanna get a stroke right by spinning the canvas rather than fiddle away with the rotation menu
another is could you add somethiung lik the free floating customizable window thing tvpaint does
i like being able to just up and move the tool/color/properties tab around as i please

Any way to practice keeping the lines clean? I know the principles and I can give weight to animation, my drawings are decent but no matter how hard I work on the inbetweens it looks wobbly in the end.

like how the first time he pilots the eva is of his own volition after seeing injured rei instead of the eva deus-ex-machina'ing and protecting him from debris like in the original
all inall he's far more assertive actually cooks for his extended family and gets along with rei over it

About the Evangelion, I agree with you on everything. Shinji is shit and totally ruins the series for me. And no matter how many times they redo the thing, time after time, they can't fix it. The whole thing gets even more stupid sometimes. Shinji should be a dark motherfucker with a real hate for his father, he killed his mother, Shinji should go to Neo-Tokio with the idea to kill his father. It's the end of the fucking world, there's a lot of shit that should be portrayed in a totally different tone. Toji, should be one the key characters, he should be like a Young Ryoji, a conspiracy cool dude who wants to uncover Nerv and destroy it, even though he's part of that elite, he's just waiting for a chance to get on an EVA and fuck everything up, he doesn't need to get "possessed". I don't think we will ever get to see a proper version of the story. The original show was quite an accomplishment, I understand why it was made like that, and I appreciate how magical it was. But, no, in the eyes of an adult it is a very silly and lacking product, script wise.

Yeah actually, do you remember "Doxy"? It wasn't the first time that I saw that type of torso+hip+thighs ratio/combo, but Doxy was so stylish that his figures stuck in my mind I remember, and I always tried to add that shape to my figures. Today that "shape" (much more exaggerated) is very mush spread around, specially in all of those "AI loras" the "bimbo" body, I like it a lot honestly.

In my EVA version, Asuka is the real adult in the group (not a try hard cringe diva like in the series) and she has a platonic obsession with Rei, lol, she finds Rei extremely attractive because of her stoic behavior and silent discipline. Shinji is too obsessed on his personal vendetta against his father, he's not a cry baby but a silent schizo, etc. Everyone can be super cool in Eva instead of being a tropey cringefest.

but all in all it's to be a scifi setting akin to the world of space dandy
The protagonist was meant to be fully suited and masked design wise
the rough story was a slice of life from a space station crew's pov in a post-galactic war universe
all in all the entire galaxy is spent and exhausted and reeling from post-war rebuilding
the protagonist is essential a pre-war munitions specialist
going around the universe diffusing/deactivating and breaking down weapons from the great war

the added catch is that the guy is from a mass-produced clone series designed for offworld mining communes
that got requisitioned in the later years of the war and earned a collective field promotion over the effort of him and his shared memory core imprinted on each iteration

So these missions would be the framing devise for the episodes
with each iteration becoming his own man as he works on diffusing the different scifi doomsday device
who over the course off the story gains his own individual identity
and symbolically breaks away from the collective memory base
that way i get to have my self insert get a technical harem but not compromise my morals by having dedicated copy of the self for each romantic interest

Seeing as this is an art board however, I guess I could (somewhat) de-mystify how I animated the thing.

I used 3 frames that loop on 24fps, strong wind means long streaking movements that I exaggerated; there’s a video called |LUNE: “Beaches & Breezes”| which used the same technique but with a shredding effect for the clothing, you’ll see it better when viewed frame by frame but my methods might not work with more realistic art though.

Enjoy blowing your characters away.

i was the lead animator for a shot that involved a snaking string wave loop at work due to my expertise
i enjoy animating the tail a lot actually
just practice the wave principle and you'll get the hang of it eventually
it wont make sense for a while and then just click in your head
the beginners are recommended the standard 4 keys
but if yoou get good enough 3 keys are enough for a convincing loop
most anime hair/fabric loops usually alternate between even/odd number of keys per loop

also those are some very pink nipples

I don't have any resources but a nice story boarding practice I like to do that I feel like helps is taking comic pages and translating them into tv scenes by either imaging how they look or drawing it out. I also try to break down or study how the framing works for a lot of stuff I watch. Any resources you can find about how to block a film or camera position when recording one will also help immensely. I wish I could give you proper resources but most of what I know or learnt about it was from word of mouth during lectures. I guess art school was good for at least one thing

got through dungeon meshi and gave "To Be Hero" a shot
the Opening song animation is really nice
and the formula of doing choice bits of the fights in 2d while leaving the rest to Arcane Style 3d qas pretty good idea
but the whole plot premise seems a bit of a stretch
its episode 4 and htere's already an imposter revealed event occuring seems a bit rushed
no way the female fans would instantly switch over to this nobody bum
right after finding out their husbando's death was covered up by the evil corpo
like sure i get that they're going for a hype scene but if anything it should've cut to other incel bums getting hyped to see one of their own becoming a hero not the jilted fanclub
and then in the final scene the love interest gets shot in the head for some reason
the story is waaaaay tooo underbaked/rushed
dropping it purely based on that

Make a new youtube from a new gmail and tailor it to animation exclusively for algorhythm feed stonks withut distraction
do that and within a few months you will be see massive improvement

This should actually be your priority since there's no other compositing software that can truly compete with After Effects (in my opinion). There's about a dozen good animation programs on PC and mobile/tablet but you can't find nearly as many compositing and and editing softwares with a ton of features. I'd kill for something that's right up there with AE that I only have to pay for once.

I visited the Mumbai ComicCon and got my hands on an Asuka and Himiko Toga Figurines
tis a shame i didnt find a figma figure at a reasonable price that wouldda really helped with visualizing poses

Back when i was a wee little lad I used to fuck around with that one program called "pivot", since I liked how you could move joints with just dragging them I use the transform tool and the liquify tool a lot in krita when animating but it makes the lineart fuzzy in certain frames. Is there no way around it other than drawing the lineart again or doing it prior in sketch phase.

thats called anti-aliasing
either check if the program has a setting to turn that off
or use a bigger canvas size so the distortion is negligable

Question for those that use opentoonz (or Tahoma2D). I’m pretty good at Krita but the animation capabilities are lacking. I’ve learned how to use opentoonz, but actually drawing inside feels terrible for me. Latency is bad on my device and the brushes just aren’t cutting it for me. I suppose I could just use opentoonz for coloring and compositing, but wanted to ask if anyone else had this issue and were able to make it better?

I used it for a bit and switched to TVPaint, I think Opentoonz is more suited to animating stuff you've drawn somewhere else than drawing, the drawing tools clearly suck compared to every other software. At least the pixel ones, they clearly want you to take advantage of the vector tools.

I signed up for one of the warrior art camp animation classes later this summer, I'm hoping it'll help me improve a bit

is there a trick to keeping the head shape consistent throughout?
I struggle with the "copy from previous frame" workflow
just never got good with the lasso/copy methodology it always snags bits from adjacent strokes and gives me a headache
how do you manage around that? just smart layering? or just mindfulness while lassoing?
i see those wip posted by competent artists and they've got those frames where a recurring/static elemeent is just not drawn and it unnerves me
what's the mindset behind that?

Most of the body is just a binary mask layer over a static gradient, you can see most of it isn't actually moving that much, then I have another layer for details where I just vaguely wave an airbrush tool around to get a bit more volume and some highlights.
