https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQNIvH7yl5YThis guy has been black-pilling on A.I. for a while. His 'mental models' to 'keep going'?>Art as protest>Art just you want to>Art as an anti-depressant>Act as if your art will grow in value on the off chance A.I. goes off the rails or the attitude surrounding A.I fundamentally changesHe's annoying, personally, Reddit-like in many ways but I'm curious to hear some responses and thoughts all the same
>>7921243>Art just you want toArt just because you want to
i gotta eat and this beats flipping burgerssuck my nuts
>>7921243reported you for starting drama shits.
>>7921248This drama now?
>>7921249you are retarded and thirsty for (You)s.
>>7921243>>>/lit pleaseedon't talk about philosophy goonholes here.
>>7921248>>7921249>>7921252>Don't bring community vendettas onto this board. Singling out individual artists for the purposes of trolling them will not be tolerated. All discussion of artists should pertain directly to their work, and not their personal lives. This isn't trolling, nor does it pertain really to community vendetta's. It's not personal either. Its me asking about what people think about their Artistic drives in lou of A.I.
>>7921256this is a philosophical topic you should post this in /lit/ board.

Me? I don't care about ai. I just have fun with my pencil
great another ai bait.
>>7921243His not really talking about AI, how good or bad it is, or anything really involving it... he's talking about losing your motivation because of AI, so it's purely about YOU. Granted, he insinuates that AI is guaranteed to replace artists, despite AI seemingly having not effected any industry - anyway, that's not the discussion here.Ultimately, the reason I'll keep drawing and making art, is because I like doing it. As far as I'm concerned, if AI does destroy the art industry completely, then it's going to destroy most other industries as well, and at that point, why should I bother learning another skill I don't like just for it to also be made irrelevant? Might as well learn a skill I enjoy doing if that's the case.Honestly, I've gone from totally skeptical of AI, to somewhat worried, to skeptical and nonplussed because of this mindset. Either it completely destroys all jobs, in which case it doesn't matter, or it barely does anything, in which case it doesn't matter.Besides, any hard earned skill, even when made irrelevant, can be adjusted and applied somewhere else, like from trad art to digital. I'm sure if art is destroyed as an industry, I can apply my skills somewhere, so again, I might as well keep pursuing them. But this pales in comparison to my initial reason... I just like making art.(Also, yes, that dude talks in such an annoying and pretentious way, holy crap. He's a prime example of millennial writing, with his constant quips.)
>>7921243I've been following him for a while and it's interesting to see the gradual shift over timein this one, he has clearly given upthe times they are a-changin
Do you want to be competently skilled or do you want a computer to do everything for you? That's what it boils down to. Do you want to be someone who is capable and reliable, or do you want to be the person who becomes helpless if they lose an internet connection?Become an expert in your domain, or don't.
Hard to imagine Steven Zapata giving such weak reasonining for making art (beyond the 2nd point), but I know it did bootyblast him pretty hard for a minute. He's a smart guy and his art takes are often correct, but I feel the answer to this is straightforward to the elect. AI hasn't changed anything if you have the calling. It only confuses with their heart half in it.
>>7921243the cope is unreal, he pivots from "we're gonna get them guys, they are going to be shut down and pay for what they did" to "its ok guys, just keep drawing with your head down", every single a.i. talk from this dude is so pathetic and wimpy despite his skills and self proclaimed thoughtfulness he wastes so much dam breath and time on a.i. bullshit
>>7921349Alternatively, this AI hysteria is meant to make you feel helpless, as if it's pointless for you to learn skills that would help you be capable in life. Who cares if some gay corporation won't hire you because they're using an AI? It's not about what you can do for some gay corpos, it's about what you can do for you. It's insanely liberating to be able to do something for yourself and not having to pay for it or agree to some terms of service.
>>7922013this, 3 years ago hes talking so much shit on a.i. and how its only 2 more weeks until they are done for, bruh, message from the future Steven, ironic how his own Steven character in his intros is made of a.i. compilations of his art streams, that intro was running before all this shit, horrifying
>>7921243self-righteous narcissistic smug faggot who unironically convinced himself that rendering 3d forms makes him some type of conjurer of eldritch wisdomyou draw meaningless shit you fuckin onions nigger and I HOPE ai dries up all your gigs
>>7922048with the way things are headed now and how the upcoming generations are being raised in the next 10 years, creating anything by hand will seem like black magic to most people
>>7921243I've had a think about it, and only the 2nd and maybe the 1st really has any merit, although i'd qualify the first that if art is going to be protest, it should actually be focused propaganda art against A.I.The 4th and final does have merit, only in the sense that it might have more monetary value after we're dead and gone. >>7922014>>7922048>>7922115Is also correct. Having skills like this is probably going to become a novelty and in a sense, it'll probably be like knowing Latin in that it might not be directly useful but it translates to other domains in terms of lessons learned and how it orients your brain that it will enhance your daily life.I suppose the only thing I'd add is that A.I., at its best, is probably going to be the standard use in the realm of creating worlds and fantastical images. Photos will remain as the representational standard. Maybe we might see a return to the same sort of thing as the early modernist works and practices, if only because they remain something the the majority of people don't want, and so something unlikely to be replaced.
>>7921349>despite AI seemingly having not effected any industryDude are you for real
>>7922686Yeah. Granted the stories I'm hearing a super contradictory; with one side throwing out statistics saying no industry is effected and that the AI under performs, and the other saying all industries are effected and are doomed. The truth is probably more nuanced, but I lean more towards the AI is overblown and hasn't done much side of things. Regardless, I'm not debating that here, because it's tired and overdone, and nobody is convincing anyone of anything.
>>7922122>Having skills like this is probably going to become a novelty and in a sense, it'll probably be like knowing Latin in that it might not be directly useful but it translates to other domains in terms of lessons learned and how it orients your brain that it will enhance your daily life.Art was already EXACTLY fucking like this for millennia. How out of touch do you fags have to be to think AI pwning industry garbage is going to send the entire cosmos of art underground?People have always made art and will continue to always make art because we have a psychological need to. This shit is a pinprick.
>>7922692I dare say people are just reading the word "affected" differently, i.e. it's semanticsThe industry's affected in the sense that yes, people are being pressured to use AI to do parts of their jobsDoesn't mean that people are being mass laid off and replaced by AI (outside of isolated cases where usually the companies end up regretting it) the mass layoffs are happening but it's more to do with the general state of the economy which in turn is caused by geopolitics. Not a thing we can do but wait it to blow over. The AI may become a threat in the future but that's still hypothetical.
>>7922711I'm not just talking about the 'industry'. A.I., like photography, is a challenge to art.Less people will keep up with art practice, just as a result of having this technologyJust like you have people who still do atelier and trad art, there will obviously still be a bunch of people doing their own world building and fantasy projects but it'll be more niche as it was otherwise Modernist currents have been vindicated where the others haven't been and will seemingly remain vindicated simply because it is turns off the typical person and certainly the sensibilities of the majority of people who use A.I.People will continue to make art, but the way we make art isn't set in stone. New opportunity for differentiation is here, and i think the whole obsession with style and the vindication of modernism makes for a possibility for a new, interesting affirmation
>>7921243Thank you reddit, very gay
