is this art good or bad
pyw cuck
I like it so it's good.
>>7922001I don't mind it. It's definitely feels amateur though. Her face is quite nice though, and given that's where our eyes are going to be drawn, that's a point in its favour.
>>7922001Neither. It’s a poorly drawn work that’s been well realised. The face, the arm closest to us, the lions, they look odd, stiff, unformed. However. The colour composition, beautiful. The shading, particularly on the dress, strong, good. Nice stylisation. So it’s mid, with potential, but also downsides.
bad
>>7922001Overall the painting is unappealing and doesn't warrant being displayed anywhere. But good effort of a challenging composition. Your efforts will be rewarded if you keep it up.Do smaller side studies next time, specifically of the faces since those are weak.
>>7922001Unironically, give it a pass through some AI image to image tool, and see what do you feel about it. That can unblock things in your head that can't be explained by words in regards to "appeal".You seem to have artistic talent, but you want to run before walking, and that's fine, but you will suffer a lot. The lions look like weird small dogs with wigs, you're using black paint when you shouldn't, you should use tones of red and warms colors for the lions, and for the girl the same. The way you painted the background and the little pieces of grass, that's how you should paint the main subjects as well, maybe you were right on the other thread when you said that oil was better to soften the shapes.I did a quick hand on the fur on picrel using krita, with those basic colors, no black. That's a great tool too, to test a rough digital paint sketch to understand how to approach the real thing in the best possible way.Marco Bucci has some nice videos about it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fLV5ezO64whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwLQ0cDb4cEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LhcNbFMkTwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0P8iGs2jWIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdvOGfWYxqk
SAAAAAAR
It's bad. You were given good crits in one of the the trad threads weeks ago but you rejected them all. Suffer.
>>7922133im kind of solipsistic i forgot, i think they said the faces of the lions were bad. didn't change em cause i just wanted to roll with it. gonna fix the hands if i can. i did add the trapezius muscle to account for the rotation of the head though that was a good tip i actually followed. i may have followed another one but don't remember. i'm very slow at painting.>>7922127will (hopefully) check them out thanks. my knowledge is >shadow blue>further away more blue+less saturated>closer more saturated>light warmer>if grass add some green reflected lightis the black not being good to use a myth? i've heard people say it's a myth. others say it's real. why use warm for shadow in case of lions and girl? i changed to oil it was impossible to paint the dress with acrylics
>>7922221>is the black not being good to use a myth?I don't know, but when I pay attention to the art around (competent and professional), it actually follows those rules of color, and it is hard to realize of that if you're not into the "artistic practice" yourself. Because that's a totally logical "mistake" we all do when we first try to color stuff, How do I make this green darker? "I apply black pencil on the green duh.." But then you realize that there's something wrong with that, specially when you apply black pencil or paint on all the colors you want to subdue, it has that characteristic look, dull, grey, amateurish. That totally changes when you apply proper color techniques and teachings, like using the pure basic color as the darkest base of it, or use a general dark blue instead of black, or ochre red, or a dark green, and you compromise on that color tone. The elements in the dark or under shadows, will glow, the whole piece will look like a real art piece. And it is just a simple rule, that I know it is hard to commit to given our nature of rational thinking against all odds. But it works, get rid of the black color, of course you can use it to emphasize something very specific like maybe an eye, or an isolated element, like a dark jewel.Anyways, I wrote too much, and this is a thing that needs to be tried more than talked. Here's a few more videos on that:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prZbauepaqchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFbKWwRvNWohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7L7ajReIF0
>>7922001If you're like 13 sure. it's amazing. What is your background? would I buy this painting, I don't know... How much are you asking for it?There's a lot of unknowns about the art here.Asking if the art is good or bad makes no sense.Certainly it can be improved, but really that depends on what you're trying to say with the piece.Personally I don't like the rough texture the work is done on.And there's a lot of areas that look like they were re-painted IE: her fingers, and the tail of the lion.Compared to the detail put into the hair and face, make the whole painting look like very little effort was put in past surface level considerations. The overall scale of the animals also is off, and the childlike "cat lips" and whiskers don't do anything for me either. These are supposed to be adult male lions, yet their heads are smaller than the woman's chest?I give it a 4/10.
>>7922221It wasn't just on this painting, you got genuine and good crits on your other work as well in the past. I for one am not going to bother writing crits for you anymore because of it.
>>7922600If you gave me the critiques on the dragon I did take em seriously and applied some, though very subtly. I gotta get back to that painting I didn't finish it. Crits were good. >>7922293Alright thanks I won't use black and see how it goes. Didn't use today and it's looking good.>>7922526Yeah it isn't 100% finished getting there tho. Switched to oils I was using low quality acrylics with low pigment which were fucking me up. Lions are funny I think lmao.
