because all the angle and size errors add up and snowball. the chin and nose shadow angle is wrong. the forhead shadow isnt angled but straight. the face is too wide, mouth too low, eyes too far apart, nose angling and lenght etc. since its digital, you could just cheaply realign everything, but you should redraw it if you want to learn something. also, dont fill in the shapes till you get it right, jumping the gun.

take a break for now/today and come back with fresh eyes, then fix it. the overall outlining should take about an hour and maybe another for detailing/shading, since its rather simple. another isuenthough, low res refs like this will make you symbol draw more, since you cant see everything clearly. the show is lit really well, you could just take a good screencap from the early seasons and have more success. this episode has some cool lights

you hold your pencil like a pistol and line up the sights (partly joking) to compare angle, size and placement. it takes time and your willingness to loose yourself and your time in the process. when you feel something is off, you out it aside and break/move around a little before diving back in

Big thing is muscle proportions. The triceps should be larger than the biceps. The biceps now look sorta blobby. Tricep long head should be longer and larger than lateral head. Like just in general your shit would look way better if the triceps were much larger.

First I hear of long head and lateral head. Also never really considered the proportions of each muscle between themselves. Noted.

I am absolutely atrocious when it comes to the muscles on the side of the torso. Do you have any images showing what they should look like? And thanks, big time.

If I understand what you're asking that's just where the external obliques attach to ligament or whatever. I forget what it's called. If you're asking why they puff out a bit, the lower external obliques are just beefier than the upper for a lot of people. But it depends. Some people have thick internal obliques which gives them a more uniform look which is called fridge mode on fit.

I mean the bit in red here. All the anatomy refs I can find don't seem to show it connecting to the aponeurosis any differently there to cause it. Is it really just larger muscles in the lower part? It just feels off for that to be the reason.

Good, keep going. The more you draw and the earlier you use your best ideas, the faster you’ll find your own gaps.

Developing the eye is the main goal.

I'm pro korean art doe. My guess is that Koreans and Chinese break the mold with actual anatomy knowledge and understanding of volume and forms plus a shit ton of studying. There's nothing souless about their art, koreans and to some extent chinese are the golden standard in 2026.

Meanwhile the Japanese keep copying , using references, tracing crying themselves to sleep cause their shitty salary doesn't allow them to live a human life. That looks a lot better yeah, before one being sorta diagonal was the issue. Now the bottom of one pupil being straight while the other is rounded looks a little odd but not hugely noticeable.

is it better to try to improve on busts before moving on to the whole body, or just jump straight to working on the whole form at once?

>look at tenten's book, it basically says the same
I know these masters aren't wrong and I have been doing repeated studies and turnarounds and construction but I'm so fucking tired of studying. I just want to draw for fun but I take so long and suck so hard that it feels like wasted time I could be spending on studying. I'm tired of all this dry stuff. I've always felt like art is my calling but I can't even feel creative anymore. I don't just want to copy reference, I want to be a good artist who can draw whatever they want whenever they want. The thought of having to do even more construction and boring perspective shit makes me want to blow my brains out. IK I'm just ranting and being a weak faggot but it's causing me a lot of pain since I feel like I'm in too deep and can't just throw in the towel and be a wagie.

I also still struggle a lot to draw entirely from imagination. The answer I've found so far is reference. Find and save as much reference as you can, and use them where applicable. If you're having trouble making a pose work, grab a 3D model, pose it, and use it as reference while taking note of what you were doing wrong. I've been doing this in the hopes that these things will be burned into my memory eventually. It lets me be creative and draw what I want to draw while still 'copying' from reference. At least that's how I see it.

>grab a 3D model, pose it, and use it as reference while taking note of what you were doing wrong. I've been doing this in the hopes that these things will be burned into my memory eventually
Ive been doing this for so long that i've basically come to accept that if you want realism you're gonna have to always use 3d models or exact refs, if you want to draw purely from imagination you have to take the stylization+symbolism+willing to be wrong pill. Look at manga artists pre digital. You can see these things regularly
>mangakas obviously drawing stock poses they know by heart (itagaki)
>mangakas drawing very very wonky poses, because the scene was more important than being correct (pic related)
>mangakas drawing very wonky poses because theyre only human
>mangakas very obviously hard-refing poses that don't really work for the scene (araki lol)
>mangakas switching into less complex angles when they want to draw something more complex (itagaki when he draws move-by-move sequences)

digital artists on twitter take a week to draw one thing and they're still TRACING THE WHOLE FUCKING THING FROM A 3D MODEL, in fact there are whole mangas traced from 3d models nowadays
>>
>>7947132
I know that feel
>>
>>7947165
I think in the case of mangakas we also have to factor in that they have to draw a ton every day to get their stuff released in time, so they can't fuss over every detail, but you do have a point about twitter artists. I think the bottom line is: drawing entirely from imagination is hard. Much harder than it may initially seem, and it takes a lot of skill to be able to do it.
>>
>>7947173
thats what im saying, if you want to do it in a realistic time frame its impossible to draw from imagination
>I think the bottom line is: drawing entirely from imagination is hard. Much harder than it may initially seem, and it takes a lot of skill to be able to do it.
NO, the bottom line is: drawing from imagination is almost impossible. Being able to draw from imagination is like having perfect pitch, only a selected number of specially talented people will ever be able to do it (kim jung gi), and its not something you can train either

Finished it. I scrolled a bit through the thread and saw some people dooming, and I'd just like to say that sometimes when you're drawing and it doesn't feel fun, just take a break. I know you think you'll stop progressing if you stop studying or whatever, but you won't. It's better to take a break and keep loving to draw than to force yourself to draw out of some obligation you made up in your own head and then end up hating it and quitting. The same thing goes for studying fundamentals, take a break from it, draw for fun. Your drawings don't need to be perfect. what matters in the end is if you're having fun.
>>
>>7947132
I just feel like a proverbial monkey with a typewriter no matter how much I study. I've been drawing since I was a kid but every time I've ever produced anything moderately "appealing" it was a result of endless ctrl+z'ing every element until I landed on something that looked passable. If I ever recorded a timelapse of anything finished it'd probably be like 500+ GB and extremely embarrassing.

>>
>>7947175
it's absolutely something you can train. imagination drawing is basically just memory drawing, look up memory drawing system. that said I get the impression it's one of those things that's more impressive to other artists. normies don't give a shit if you use references. hell they barely care if you trace everything, and only are anti-AI because they've been memed into it

Some people can't see the apple. Other's cant rotate the apple. Other's can't put the rotated apple in a 3D plane. It's more likely than you think.

Artists call imagination just drawing from memory no? Rotten and Grim, sounds like you are not using your imagination at all.
Chess players call memorisation "theory" so i guess it's something similar.
>>
>>7947189
the better you are at something the more of your day you need to spend refreshing it to not lose it. So with all the thousands of possible things you can memorize, how much "imagination drawing" you can actually do realistically before you capped out? How many poses?

a huge number of artists get into art to specifically to create the kind of weird fetish porn they wish existed and only get more "normal" about their art when they start actually getting good and realize their back catalog of furry/guro/vore/feet/inflation/diaper/bread porn is a massive risk to their professional art career.

Hang in there anon. Coming up with interesting and dynamic poses is probably one of the hardest things in drawing.
I've been drawing for about the same time as you (~1.5 years) and I only recently made a huge breakthrough with this myself. If you're anything like me you always labor over making your figures anatomically accurate and become kinda paralyzed. But really, in the sketch phase, you shouldn't really care about getting anatomy or perspective correct. If you've been doing your figure studies and gesture drawings, you will have some intuition on how the body moves, and the sketching phase is the time to let that intuition take the lead.
Once you get a sketch you like, then you can start refining it and fixing stuff. In the beginning this will likely take hours and you might even have to start over a few times, but you'll get better with practice. Cause if you mostly been studying, you've been neglecting practicing to draw from imagination.
And in case you are again like me: You might not feel like you have any creativity if you've not drawn anything from imagination for a while. But you do. Just pick the simplest idea you can and do 5-10 quick sketches/gestures for it. I can guarantee you, you will get further ideas.

>>7947360
That's when you combine stuff. There's big titted women and buff women. As long as you roughly know how to draw the big titted woman, you can transfer them to the buff woman.
>>
>>7947369
I guess at that point it's a matter of preference, since it'll still register as nonsensical to the brain. Skill issue on my part it seems.

The pecs are attached to the collarbone and the internucular groove, the breasts are not, the breasts are attached to the pecs.

you are drawing a man, literally.
>>
>>7947371
If you try to make it too realistic, it will look off, yeah. But if you stylize even a little bit, the brain will usually just accept it I think. Like even the most hyperbuff hyperbreasted fetish art usually still registers correctly to me. I don't necessarily like it, but it makes sense

I'm hardly qualified to talk about anatomy, but I'd like to add on to what that anon said. Considering the position of her forearm and elbow, it *kind of* looks like her bicep and triceps are going to the sides, when they should be facing up and down respectively. It's hard to tell for sure with the clothing on top though, so you might've had the right intention all along.

then you would smoothen out the muscle separation and the contours (but i did it too much fuck me) but the the forms at that angle would remain the same
The main thing i was getting at was that the upper arm at that angle should produce a forearm at a different angle (the bicep is always relative to the bend of the arm), i ended up drawing a different upper arm to fit the forearm better because showing how the forearm should look like with that bicep is fucked due to all the overlapping forms
I tried to draw al three (bicep, elbow, hand) seperate but its hard
>>
>>7947461
Hmm I see what you mean, the whole arm should maybe be a lttle further back. I made the bicep a little more pronounced which should hopefully help a bit. We'll see how I feel about it tomorrow. Thank you!

Not the anon that offered coloring tips but somewhat try changing things outside of just saturation and brightness. When people say "don't just shade with black" there's something else they're not telling most people. Hue, saturation, and brightness together make the art piece. And there is something called "hidden colors" which are colors that "disappear" when you put your image under a greyscale filter. They register the same with brightness maybe, but don't with hue. It's difficult to explain but I can try!

Hue = Color (red, green, yellow, etc)
Some hues are naturally darker than others. Yellow feels like the lightest, blue feels like the darkest. Think of crayola crayons.

Saturation = Color vs Grey
The more color you add to something, the darker it looks. The more grey/dull the color looks, the lighter it appears. Hot pink is darker than pastel pink.

Brightness = Color vs White vs Black
Pretty self explanatory and what most people use to shade. Adding black or white to something makes it appear darker or lighter respectively.

You also need to try to find a definitive lightsource instead of just adding white to the outside of the image.
>>
>>7947665
samefag There are also things such as reflective light, ambience occlusion (which is a fancy word for
>areas where light cannot touch regardless of most lighting angles.
My color over was too quick and didn't really take most of these things into account, but I was hoping I could give you a few pointers. Additionally, I would like to know what artists you admire in terms of their coloring styles, since you don't like how your own is. (I am assuming you are comparing yourself to them...)

Cellshading and airbrush/soft shading call for different techniques and I noticed you kind of roughly had both in your pic.
>>
>>7947665

1, I make a bunch of stupid mistakes but I think it looks fine. Next hour or day, I see the drawing looks like absolute garbage and can fix some problems.

So, the bad news is Photoshop kept crashing on me so i had to use Clip Studio, which is a program i am very unfamiliar with so this isnt to a good level.

However, my advice is as follows:

1) Beginners should only be focused on good value. If you dont have good value, your colour choice literally doesnt matter.

2) You need to figure out a basic worfklow! start with a sketch. Then, you need to establish your local colour and value first before rendering. All value is relative to eachother, so if you start painting the hair first, and then the skin, you will accidentally fuck up the value ranges of each and your hierarchy will break and the painting will look bad.

3) Paint in your basic light and shadow shapes. You should try to follow the basic outline of the form. For hair, you can make it in big clumps, and make sure to follow a sphere if its close to the head. A lot of artists treat the flowing strands out past the head as ribbons, which looks nice.

4) After you establish very basic light and shadow, from there most of the thinking is done and you can paint to your own style or preference. I kinda winged it but couldnt be bothered continuing because i really dont like Clip Studio.

Sorry it's so messy, i just did very basics out of laziness. Not my best work. I would usually paint from a much more detailed sketch if i were to draw something.

*Also note, i do not usually draw Anime and i usually paint realism.

That's a beautiful sketch. Her hand may need some adjustment on the proportion scale with the face. But that's beside the point, it's a great sketch. People like to see stuff in series, they feel visually attracted towards "piles" and group figures. If you draw that same face sketch with another one in the same page placed in an appealing dynamic way together, people will be immediately captivated by it. They just like groups of drawings in one page dynamic composition.
