Thought on the man? How /beg friendly is he? I heard he recommended stuff like drawabox which was a turnoff.

This is the 3rd thread asking this.

>Hampton was a shortcut
How so?

Hampton’s system is basically a shorthand that he derived from studying the figure in his peculiar mechanical way. There’s a fine line between shorthands and actually useful tools (like what Huston and Vilppu teach).
>>
Hampton is good. Won't teach you the most in depth anatomy possible like Bridgeman, but he'll help you start building lifelike people and figures. I genuinely love the book and usually always have it open on my second monitor or a quickhand.

Have you watched his video course? I remember hampton being a great stepping stone into understanding muscle insertions and he does go into depth as to what the shapes represent. I memorized the torso from his vids and it helped me when going through huston's stuff (I can't stand the dryness of Vilppu's voice). I think of it like when you first learn to draw (usually anime) you learn some form of mannequin that isn't really precise but for the level you're at you're able to handle it, that gives you confidence to move to other teachers and refine your methods, so yes Hampton is /beg/ friendly for that specific reason.

Course or book is better?

I swear I say this every time his books are brought up - the covers are so fucking ugly.
You buy an art book to learn to draw, and to draw better than you currently do, so why the fuck are they putting a not even half finished scribble on the cover?
It lacks taste, and makes me think that the book is not even worth looking at, and if that's the quality of the cover, I shudder to think of the bullshit drawings within.

You should be able to appreciate the art of the instructor you're learning from, and I don't think I can do that with Hampton, going by what I've seen.

So does, bridgman. Bridgman's books are full of nothing but sketches. Why, you may ask? Because it's to get to straight to the point of anatomy; so you don't have to write the entire thing down. Just focus on what's said in the book and the sketches laid by the master then you could create a new framework based on what you've learned and drawn. You are NGMI

>Man, this cover is hideous.
>Well, inside the book the sketches are to show the anatomy and blah blah blah
My complaint was how hideous the cover, the thing that sells the fucking book, is.
I feel that art guide book covers should be somewhat aspirational, like that's the goal you're trying to reach.
You seem to think I expect every drawing in the book to be good, which I don't, though I would expect a decent portion of them to be so. However, based on your reaction, I'm guessing the Hamster doesn't even have one good drawing in his scribble diary. sad.

Also, while Bridgman also has sketches on his cover, they're significantly better and more appealing, and presented with a much better design - but I wouldn't expect a Hampton defender to be able to understand concepts such as taste or appeal.

Anyway, good luck learning how to do dog shit ugly sketches, I'm sure those skills will totally help you make it.
Notice how I don't call you a ngmi? Because I'm the bigger man, and I don't need to state the obvious.

Convinced. Me go with Hampton. Me feel form in all his sketches.
