Ive been drawing furry art for 5 years and I'm getting sick and tired of drawing shitty fursonas and pokemon oc's fucking each other, my heart longs to create cool ass fantasy art like in the attached pic, but is there a market for this? or has ai killed the fantasy market?
>>7963168>Is it possible to make sfw art profitable?Yes.Empirically speaking you have to have a foundation/audience first, I draw SFW stuff side by side with my hentai now and both are profitable Hentai for obvious reasonsSFW for exposure and getting people in the door
You are a furry so how about cool ass fantasy furry art? It wouldn't even alienate most of your fans.
>>7963168Aren't there a lot of people out there who pay to have their D&D (or similar) characters illustrated?Might unfortunately be the perfect art task for AI, but I can also see a lot of roleplay/creative types being against that.
>>7963168just create the market for ityou seem confident
>>7963168I mean it kinda works for that abbadon guy that does k6bd and whoever is it that does unsounded, they seem to be doing fairly well which Id guess translates to profitability. Now this also depends to a great extent on your particular set of current life circumstances( no rent or mortgage payments, rather frugal way of life, no alimony, no cc debts) and what does profitability look like to you again based on your circumstances. I'm pretty certain it sure as hell doesnt translate to a 6 figure type income unless you are some kind of God-like creator the likes this timeline has never seen before. Taking the smut route is generally considered a shortcut but that may too be hit or miss, Id say try your NSFW first and if the needle doesnt make it past the 0 range then try your own smut and see how it goes, not much of a point not doing it if your cool ass fantasy art is dead in the water anyway(not saying it will be just pointing out a very real possible outcome).Out of curiosity, you are just into oil paintings a la Frazetta? a generalist type illustrator? comics perhaps? something hybrid? strict traditional or digital too? The medium is also kind of important.t.fellow fantasy art autist who romanticizes success doing SFW art
>>7963406I love Frank Frazetta, but I'm also a fan of Boris Vallejo, comic book artist like Arthur Adams, Wally Wood and the excellent Conan run or Rob de la Torre (pic related is one of my favorites of him) I also have a physical hard cover collection of three numbers of the savage sword of Conan with art by John Buscema and Gene Colan, I love sword and sorcery, I think it's much cooler than high fantasy.>>7963198I have decided that I'll star drawing fantasy art once I finish my pending commissions, I still like to draw furry babes but I will pause the pinups.>>7963195The problem is that idk any circles were people who play DND go and look for commissions, art station might be a good place, maybe.
>>7963168>has ai killed the fantasy market?OP it's not 2022 anymore.
It probably isn't very profitable online but you can create a sustainable profile in your community irl. You still have to provide something marketable but it's easier to be patronized by people invested in home grown talent than it is to be seen online. When I was making art for clients I was drawing animal surgeries in chiaroscuro. I'll come back to doing that, but for personal reasons I will not be doing so for profit anymore.
>>7963932>Hirune quit Shounen slop for hentaiI forgot to answer your question, and yes you can make money with SFW art but it's extremely hard, maybe take inspiration from Youtube animators, Indie game deva or Webtoon artists but honestly it's a lot easier to just draw porn, like even in Japan that's the case.
>>7963745>I love sword and sorcery, I think it's much cooler than high fantasy.100% agree there man, I am more into grimdark than I am into sword and sorcery and you could argue that GD is just present day S&S, but its definitely cooler than high fantasy, its kinda overused at this point I feel.Im not very versed on the silver age masters but Im not entirely a tourist either(I do have 2 of the Tomb of Dracula volumes kek) Frazetta, Vallejo and de la Torre are timeless ofc and must follows for any respectable S&S fan, heck Id throw Brom, Alvaro Tapia and Simon Bisley in there as probably the next iteration of the new 'old' masters.I think that making it in this day and age with SFW requires a mixture of several things, not just the common strats on exposition(post to this and that social) it may involve creating some persona to reach your target niche, plenty of brand work; maybe consider streaming your process, I am currently toying with the idea as I continue to work on production both on and off the screen. Best of luck with your SFW projects idea, hope you make it man.Pic is some of my experimentation with both fantasy and a bit of smut heh
>>7963168no, only degeneracy is profitable, after the collapse, maybe people long for wholesome and aspirational art again, as of the current year, dirty fuckers are the only one who'll pay good money so they can have 10 hour goon session looking at demonic art
>>7964316The concept of nsfw is already slopaganada. “Inappropriate for your wagecage”, and even then nudity doesn’t have to mean inflation furry porn unless that’s all your mind can produce for imagery. Outside of those points landscapes, boats, horses are extremely popular and difficult to paint, multi-figure genre scenes, still lifes. There’s markets for all of these things, people just don’t make them, so when they don’t sell, solipsism tells the art community “well I guess people just don’t want to buy still lifes anymore”. A) not true B) maybe your still lifes suck and they’re buying someone else’s
>>7963168>Is it possible to make sfw art profitable?Yeah, it's just more involved. NSFW artists can get away with churning out sole images that make peoples dick chakra spin, otherwise you'd better be a really good artist and make a dope ass project - comic, artbook, video games, etc.Plastiboo comes to mind, they make geigeresque dark fantasy artbooks that are manuals for fictional games and they got a shitload of traction. Check out Vermis or Godhusk.I reckon there's a gap in the market for conan the barbarian ass comics, but it's gotta be grand. Big enough for people to sink their teeth into
>>7963168SFW makes money but you have more competition and less demand so it's a terrible business Idea, good luck tho.
>>7963168Please tell me that shit is AI
>>7964612it's a collage of Frazetta swipes. I recognize literally each element as Frazettta
>>7964614That's some shitty AI anon.
>>7964603Correct answer is to get your plan B sorted so you can draw whatever you want without fearing homelessness. Frazetta was a mechanic, Tezuka was a surgeon.
