“Just draw” in a vacuum is pretty terrible advice that doesn’t work. There are MANY people who have been hardstuck permabeg for years because they “just draw” aimlessly with no goal in mind, so they never fix their mistakes and they never learn anything. Improving at art requires conscious effort, it doesn’t happen automatically with mileage.

I'm a drawlet so OP should take my advice with a big grain of salt but to avoid being the guy you describe, and also avoid being the fags on here who put out two pieces a year and hate their mediocrity so much it paralyses them (me), the main two things an artist needs to actually break free and make it are

Of course the problem is the modern internet has fried everyone's dopamine receptors and given themselves an endless pool of top-tier artists to compare themselves to and despair that they aren't that good as a newfag at 21 years old, so very, very few people now are able to accept that and keep going

I think the main issue is that people can have a very dishonest interpretation of it since "just draw' is vague enough. "Just draw" technically means you can "Just draw" Lines all day long and nothing else. This doesn't make the advice bad, it just makes the interpretation very obviously smart-assey and dishonest. There's a very clear and obvious nuance to the advice, deliberating in which would require an essay.

"Just draw" is the filter. It's literally all you need to tell someone. You can't convince someone into striving or trying to get better. It's something they need to want and desire. Most people aren't here aren't looking for guidance or what to do next, they just recognize the work that's required to get to where they want, and are constantly looking for the "magic secret". The people who get it will look at "just draw" far differently than someone who takes "just draw" at face value. It's THE ultimate filter.

Im trying to get better at baseball! Dont tell me to just play baseball! It would be pointless to play a bunch of baseball without understanding the mechanics and ideas behind the game. Im looking for the right book that will actually TEACH me how to play. Ive also been browsing a bunch of video courses but im not sure which one is relevant for the kind of baseball I want to eventually play. Does anyone know of a good brand of mitt? Ive been watching a bunch of mitt reviews from the pros - but im not sure which one works with my style of baseball. I really want to improve my skills but im stuck! I havent played in like 2 years.
