What about pencils?
I figured out mechanical pencils are too heavy for me. I have a rotring 600, messing, unusable, it's so heavy, it slips out my fingers.
Plastic faber castel 2mm or p205 are better, but still uncomfortably heavy.
Wooden pencils are the best, maybe i should buy something fancy, like mono or mitsubishi.
But i hate them getting shorter with usage. Can't find an extender that would be light and sturdy.
Same with a sharpener, they get dull after 3 pencils max.
In the year of our lord 2026, humanity still can't figure out pencils...

First time using oils this weekend. All in all, I'm pleased with the results.
>>
>>8024801
must say i agree with you, that looks really nice.
who are the other people? Are you doing a course?
>>
>>8024789
what's with all the Bouguereaus? Couldn't you use something from the old thread?
>>
>>8024801
a complete failure.
>>
>>8024808
It was workshop. We all worked on our own things and would go around and offer suggestions, etc.
>>8024813
Mom, is that you?
>>
>>8024815
>We all worked on our own things and would go around and offer suggestions
huh never heard it done that way before. Were the others any good? Did you get useful feedback?
>>
You guys often think about killing yourselves too, right?
>>

Mrs. Smith, what did we say about posting on the incel forum at the workshop?

>humanity still can't figure out pencils...
Honestly sounds like a (you) problem. I use a mechanical pencil with a 2mm HB lead, sharpen it with sandpaper and I love it to bits. Tried a bunch of different hardnesses but ended up liking HB the most as it's the most versatile though sometimes I use 2H for fine detailing and 2B if I need some more contrast in values. I have a bunch of faber castell leads and I try to sharpen them to a really thin fine point, and work with a very soft touch.
>>
>>8024820
sure i think that's fairly normal. how often is often, though?
>>
>>8024825
Not even joking, daily. Every other day at the least.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for drama and doubt I'd do it, but trying to be a painter is definitely a good part of what's making me think about it so much and I'm kinda concerned
>>
>>8024820
i do

SO I AM GOING TO TALK ABOUT MYSELF, EVEN THOUGH SOME RETARD ON HERE SAID THAT UH YOU CANT BECAUSE UH IT HURTS HIS FEELINGS

i have lended my iq to anons on here and i think they improved precisely 0 (0 doesnt need a unit of measurement, isnt it so great?) because they dont give a fuck
>>
>>8024831
have you read a single fucking book you were told to read, you schizo?
>>
omg lol, it sounds like i give a fuck about whether what i say matters to anons, i dont, i am actively trying to abandon this goddamned website but i dont know what to fill that time with
>uh drawing
uh suck my penis? as if i would sit at a table and start pouring effort into anything while my legs and back and shoulders hurt
uh i am just so eager to draw
and my mom thats got a good job and feeds me, because even though i am a grown ass man i am a failure of an adult is droning around the house and i cant fucking focus on drawing
>>
>>8024832

any crits for this?

last thing i posted I was told to soften my edges more, so tried to apply that here and I do think it turned out better.
>>
>>8024824
There is no universal hardness scale for pencils, it varies between brands.
But usually hb is okey.
>>
>>8024835
add this to no cancer, not an amputee, didnt get stabbed that one time or the other time, not shot that one other time, the car only hit me that one other time

i have got quite the blessings, yeah!
>>
>>8024836
looks amazing i am not equipped to critique it
>>
>>8024829
daily is definitely often enough that it's a problem. How is you trying to be a painter making you think like this? You aren't succeeding or not enjoying the process?
>>
>>8024820
No, i'm too narcissistic to destroy something so precious.
But i fantasize about having a Death Note often. Justice delivered by a pen, i like the thought. Even though the whole thing has a bureaucratic vibe to it, i still don't mind.
But i have aphantasia, i'm not even sure it would work, as you have to visualise the person before writing the name.
>>
>>8024819
It was very helpful, so long as you didn't necessarily need a lot of hand-holding. The others were quite good and working in different styles from tight, realistic still-life to loose portraits. A couple did their landscapes using only palette knives (turned out great).
>>8024823
>what did we say about posting on the incel forum at the workshop?
I believe it was "someone will try to masturbate to this if you post it and then complain about how difficult it was"
>>
>>8024842
I like it fine, it's the realization that I'm a socially withdrawn autist committing myself to of teaching a relatively demanding craft that nobody actually needs and is heavily dependent on cultivating a personal image and connections to monetize in a world where the general population increasingly can't afford luxuries that is doing me in.
I feel like I'm throwing the dice with my life on the line for a minimal chance of winning a lifetime of struggle and anxiety.

Like what are my prospects even if I get gud, selling to boomers until they die off or hoping some rich guy takes a liking to me?
>>
>>8024855
*self teaching
>>
>>8024855
i see, i can definitely relate to that.

Did you ever try at a more normal, 9-5ish route that has better odds of "success"?
>>
>>8024863
I can't get a 9-5, I've never worked under 50 h/wk and never under an hour away from me. The kind of work I can get is the kind any retard can do and increasingly done by indians. I mean I've done highly skilled machine operating work years ago, but that market's tiny and it was literally a 12 hour soul crushing shift, which is why I quit. Beyond that, that seems like a cope with no chance of success as a painter, so it's a moot point.
I want to paint, I just doubt I've got a real chance at this point

kek imagine your customers getting paintings with scribbles and getting mad, then having to instruct them to carefully use a blow dryer on their fancy new painting
I wonder if watercolor would even adhere to the ink
>>
>>
Sometimes it's nice just going back to copy machine paper and doing a bunch of low effort sketches.
>>
what the hell? you guys draw? i just wait for my death instead
