Symmetry is not accurate here. Her right right eye is too far and her right side of mouth is smaller then her left side. You can check eyes from mouth: her left eye is where it should be in relation to mouth because mouths corner is where middle of her eye is. Also your noses need work, try to see what 3d forms make the nose and it will be easier to get those small details right.

Direct frontal views are actually super hard. Almost-direct-frontal but with a very slight turn (like what you have here) is nightmare mode.
You’ll have an easier time learning proportions and how to think in 3D if you start with 3/4ths views where there’s a more obvious turn to one side
>>
>>8053598
cheers anon, yeah I see the issues with symmetry you pointed out. Again the reference pic had quite faint shading so I had to improvise and just make everything bolder like the nose shadow. I think I should try to restrain myself from doing the sharp linework too soon, like I did on the nose and the lips. Ink is very unforgiving.

I don't know, dude. To me, it looks like you draw in grayscale and then map the colors. While it's true that values > colors, color is a completely independent vector that also affects the viewer's perception too so you can't divorce color from the art piece. A mid-gray surrounded by the darkest black is going to read as bright, but also hue and saturation are vectors that can also amplify this effect. The Josef Albers color studies are great for hammering home those relationships try doing those. I did a quick edit on the armor, I think lowering the lightness and saturation of the teal makes it read closer to the grayscale you like.

Incredible work as always, keep going!

Yes. The thing is, how do you even get across all the vast information you need to learn and apply to a beginner? Yes, there are courses and books, but you need several of them and you need many many hours just going through the information, and even more hours applying what you think you've learned.
"Just draw" is the very distillment of all this, packed into a simple sentence anyone can understand.

I had a lot of trouble applying shadows. Supposedly you just need to create a Multiply layer then paint with the same color, but it didn't work well, so I just painted on the same layer with black/grey color in low opacity.
It didn't come out well all the same, though.
Since the colors were really dull, I tried applying several effects.

I like the idea, it could be fun! But I don't really see it as coming from a bus, and yeah, yellow immediately reads as Bumblebee. Maybe you can use more elements to push the idea further.
A technique I've seen pros use is photobashing with a 3D model. It's way faster for playing around with ideas, and you can polish it later. It doesn't have to be perfect at first, it's brainstorming after all.

Maybe the mecha thread can offer a better opinion, or even the robo dude. Keep going, I like your idea!

I draw like a bad elementary school student.
Probably worse. I have been using 'fun with a pencil' by Loomis and 'Keys to drawing' by Dodson.

Are there similar books recommended for drawing anime? or should I keep drawing ""from life"" until my drawings aren't so bad.
>>
>>8054677
1. find art you wish to draw like
2. trace the lineart to get a feel for how how the artist drew them
3. try to draw it without tracing this time, observe the image and draw what you see
4. compare your work with the ref
5. fix most crucial mistakes
repeat from step 3 to step 5
this process will skyrocket your growth, reading books won't.

yup, thats why you "re-learn" something. keep in mind that our brains cant sustain a whole lot of knowledge on totally different topics, at least thats what happens to me. for example, i cant retain knowledge on math and drawing/painting, and i think the cause might be because they are very differents topics. on the other hand not being able to remember something doesnt means you lost that knowledge completely since it will be easier and faster on a relative way to get to the same level of understanding and execution when you "re-learn", hence since we cant go opposite to our biological limits changing the study topic from "not forgeting" to "re-learning faster" is to my understanding the right thing to do.

PD: idk how kim jung gi and better artists than us all can and are able to retain and execute a lot more information than us.

PD2: well, it is true that you cant draw something you not know like a "venusian" (a being from venus). so taking this idea as a base trying to draw a car with the "general-basic knowledge" (that everyone uses) will not yield the results you are lookin for and theorically it might not be related nor have something to do with "skill" and or "execution/technique" but with a lack of knowledge. thats why, i think its crucial to have a good understanding of the entity we triying to draw, and it is in some way comparable to drawing the human figure (the thing we all do in this thread), since someone with a basic and general knowledge about a person (the human figure) cant and will not be able to draw it.

i cant say for sure it is just 1-point (since i used your drawing as information), but lets see an example and the theory behind this. in one point perspective vertical and horizontals dont converge to a point, thats is they are parallel in our canvas. but in fisheye perspective (5-point) verticals and horizontal do converge in our canvas, they curve to one of the 4 points in the circunference. so basically no, its not just 1-point but 5-point perspective. i can be wrong, thats up to you.

i dont quite get your point but if you look closely on the ref you will see a slight gradation that goes from lighter to darker top-down on the face, and its most like that the same applies to all other areas giving the ref a sence of ¿volume? or at least not looking too plain like in some old cheap anime or your attempts...

>>
>>8053977
>you either succeed or you fail, no excuses
thats not the right mindset, theres no black or white situation in life, everything is relative and a gradient between two points, so if you change that way of thinking about the process of learning to something like "no matter what i drew today or the quality, i at least drew something" you will eventually make it a habbit. and since things arent also static, this way of thinking will hopefully evolute into something that will take into account quality. everything has to be grinded, from simple isolated lines to abstract concepts like shape design, silhouette, etc.

in other words, you are putting too much pressure on the solely act of drawing and learning.

take it or leave it, im not trying to impose myself on to you.

There's not much theory behind gestures, you just need to do A LOT of them.

>>
>>8054903
try using a simple normal ref and not just copy the drawing book? try using the knowledge you just gained from the book to draw from imagination? try one of those two and if you fail you will have information about what to do next, and that could be also getting into existencial thoughts about the "why", "how", and "when" to use gesture...
>>
>>8054906
>>8054909
So draw more. Got it.
>>8054912
Pic above was from quickposes so I was not copying just from the book per say, but I will try drawing from imagination next. Thanks for the heads up.
>>
>>8054903
>>8054912 to further add, at your level you dont know why are you doing this or that, you are just copying, and to probe that let me ask you "do you know why are you using those marks that goes around the arms/legs?" "do you know why you are just using a single line to depict an arm/leg?" and if you dont know thats the problem. you didnt gave those two aspect your own interpretation, your own meaning, you dont have an idea of yours that explains why you are using them, why you NEED TO DRAW them. and in some cases you will eventually know if you keep drawing, in other you might want/need more information on the topic to finally make the concept yours. so in escence, you are not drawing the outline of the body, you are drawing the "action", the "direction", the "force", and all of them will take you some time to understand. idk man, just keep drawing and take my rambling with tweezers...

>>8054961
idk if picrel satisfies you, but it does make sense to me. also, even i dont know how the f do some artists make "atrocious" sketches with awesome linearts/outcomes. something that could explain that behaviour would be "speed", the speed necessary to download/transfer an idea from your mind/imagination to the canvas, and also the fact that if you invest too much effort on a "good line" but the overall image is fcked up you essentially have lost your time because you have to make corrections to compensate the image, breaking in the process your "good lines". so its dynamic, relative, subjective and a balance between different factors...
>>
>>8054974
thats easy, the 5 vanishing points can only produce a cube in an certain rotation, so when you have a lot of cubes in different rotations you effectevely have a lot of vanishing points per rotated cube. to prevent the bad outcome of drawing all of this you just reference the grid and or constrain your drawings to the inside of the cubes/boxes the grid lets you draw...

or thats what i understand, feel free to investigate more on the topic...
>>
>>8054978
No anon, but I could be clearer. I’d like to see finished work, hopefully in its original size (though this is hard to find, so anything goes), from a professional artist. This is subjective, so it’s not a gotcha thing, I just want to understand him better.

Yeah, I thought the point of this exercise is to quickly draw the pose, you don't need detail for that.
Picrel can be useful, but I don't see what it has to do with the pose practise.

I'm not satisfied with the helmet yet. Might have to change the design entirely.

>>8054376
Yeah it wasn't angled right. Drawing hands is already hard, making them look like they're firmly gripping something is even harder. Thank you for the help.

>>8054477
That helped quite a bit. Thank you.

>>8054474
Is it a little more readable now? It's supposed to be a big rounded pauldron.

I draw but without talent and seeing someone who got gifted /int/ in a couple months causes me great distress. If I had half his talent I would really like drawing and wouldnt bother anyone
>>
>>8055188
Do you even draw? Do you ever post your work? Do you ever ask for help?
People reach his skill because they practice, complaining about lack of talent every fucking thread won't do anything for you.
>>
>>8055182
i hate talent so much.

talent doesnt exist, i have persevered over hundreds of hours of not knowing what to do, and how to improve. so based on this what really exists is a difference on the way you endure pain, and to some extend "what do you see as pain".

Do women have a shorter middle third than men? Tracing over images of real people, men seem to be the only ones where the middle third and lower third are equal

>People reach his skill because they practice, complaining about lack of talent every fucking thread won't do anything for you.
People reach his skill because they are talented. No amount of hardwork, practice, courses or cheating with 3d will make up a lack of talent. Just look at this guy>>8055126 who has been drawing for a solid decade and couldnt get perspective or anatomy and is being mogged by a fucking huemonkey not even a year in.
Tell me a single fucking anon who is at Megas level. You wont find shit and much less someone who got that good in a year.
Why do you niggers refuse to accept that some just are talented and some arent? Life is easier for others in all aspects of life not just art.
>>8055203
>Hundreds of hours
Try thousands. This is something you talentniggers will never get. That some anons just cant learn no matter how much time they pour into it because they werent gifted. Look at Proko who is a glorified copy monkey grifting courses or Powell. A talentfag can make it to int in a hundred hours while permabegs will remain begs all of their life.
>Pain
What fucking pain? Doing something you enjoy because you were gifted at? Go fuck yourself you gloating piece of shit.
>>
all this because this nigga is bad at drawing. just go do litreally anything else instead of performing self cuckoldry on 4chan
>>
>>8055206
>no work posted
Why are you so worried about talent when you literally don't draw?
>>
>>8055209
the schizo doesn't draw
it's all just an excuse to shit on the ones that actually draw
>>
>>8055211
if thats true then its even more retarded, litreally what is he doing here? on one of the smallest boards on the site

Probably the same guy that shilled AI a few threads ago.
He used to run peoples work through prompts and rave about how JeetPT and Grok were so good at giving critiques.

Here's a rundown on your average permabeg schizo:
>draws nothing but boxes and circles for thirty minutes everyday then wonders why they're not improving
>never branches out and tries new things
>never spent a day in their life actually grinding, can't sit still longer than an hour before getting bored and browsing 4chan/youtube/xitter
>never posts their work, only complains and harasses other begs that do draw
>I DREW EVERYDAY (for like ten minutes lmao) AND HAVEN'T IMPROVED BECAUSE I HAVE NO TALENT
>proceeds to spend their time doing literally anything else other than fucking drawing

I watched this but it dosent seem to answer much, his advice is just dont do too many copies and dont do too many still lifes.

I already rotate from master copies too, drawing from reference and life.Im trying paint now, i seem to already be better than a complete beginner but they are coming off flat a bit like some of El Grecos figures. Ill post some later
