How do you find new artists for inspirations / references?
I find social networks pretty bad at discovery in general, and I would like to expand my horizons in terms of references to inspire / copy from, test new styles, etc.
I just don't really know where to search or explore that.

I became the artist that is good enough to inspire myself

Everyone seems to a fag or a pedo anyway

I get my inspiration from cryptic symbolism in my dreams

I find that looking up the inspirations, or collaborators, or peers of artists you like. Also, just keeping an eye/ear out in all the different mediums; like animation, videogames, album covers, graphic design, toys, packaging, etc. etc. can be great resources for finding amazing artists.
As of late, my main sources of inspiration have been older artists found through youtube videos, many channels of which are mentioned in the /film/ thread on here.

Public library. All the artist books are in one section. Skim them. Make note of what you like. Then look up contemporaries or artists of the same school. While you're there, go through some of the illustrated children's book section. Much of it will be dire. But some of it will be magnificent.

Collections are good. There are plenty of books which give you two-page "interviews" with 50 artists, with enough samples of their work that you can make some judgments about it. Publishers like 3Dtotal and Tuttle have a few if you're leaning in the manga direction. Or, get yourself a survey of classical illustrators (children's or otherwise).

has some excellent stuff, though you'll have to dig for a bit to see the full range of what's available.

If you can find a book called "Character Design Masterclass - Masters of Anatomy Book 2" 100+ artists each give their own impression of the same four Robin Hood characters. It's a good way to explore a pile of different styles and see if something grabs you.
