that's exactly what primavera is like in mexico. when i was a kid i was often confused when seeing (american-produced) shows in which primavera was this beautiful green season of occasional rain and balmy weather since here it's dry, hot and most plants are dead

Damn, how do you cope with such high temperatures?

It may sound crass but having experienced both really hot and really cold weather, I'd much prefer the heat, for the simple fact that you can still go outside so long as you stay in shade.
When it's winter here for long periods, entire months, going outside means physically battling to stay warm. With so much rain you begin to avoid going out altogether and lots of people develop vitamin deficiencies.

I also just love warm weather.

really? i hate summer so much it makes me depressed, and i avoid going outside because it's so fucking hot.
i grew up in the mountains and winters here are pretty cold, but i much prefer -15°C to +30°C. just dress warm and walk fast, and it's all good

i feel like this year is hotter than the last one. the air itself feels hot, both indoors and out, in the shade or not in the shade
>With so much rain you begin to avoid going out altogether and lots of people develop vitamin deficiencies.
i much prefer rain, cloudiness and cold weather (coldest it gets here is 1-3c, though). i grew up in Cwb and sometimes it rained everyday for a whole month and i miss it. where i live now it's BSh and it rains like maybe 14-21 days a year and it's usually very brief and inconsequential or it suddenly starts pouring the hell out and then goes away in a few hours

Nah I hate this.

I'd be in heaven if most of the year I could just go outside wearing sliders with a loose silk shirt and some shorts.

I drove a motorbike around a beach city for work most of one summer and I can't tell you how nice it is. My idea of paradise is doing that and renting out a cheap room in a town centre somewhere where it never gets cold. I want to read the Warrior Cats series (for the first time ever) in German. Can a German-knowing anon who has read the series before tell me in which order I should read them? I just found the books on libgen and I don't even know what I should download
>>

Read them in the order they were published originally in English.
Good choice btw, I read the first one in French. It was difficult at first but once you learn more words related to animals and nature, it becomes easier.
>>
>...qu'elle savait, en conséquence, la danse, la géographie, le dessin, faire de la tapisserie et toucher du piano. Ce fut le comble !
intéressant. perhaps in the 19th century it was the verb toucher that was used to mean that you could play an instrument instead of jouer (which also means to play like a game as in english) which is used today? in spanish it still is tocar

I just finished watching this documentary about this guy who saves cute owls and other birds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hvt0PiMaGY I guess I should watch more German documentaries related to nature & animals to pick up relevant vocab before I start Warrior Cats.

>>197065285
Does English count? That would be 12 years of non-stop daily consumption, if not then 1.5 years of Japanese. I was very dedicated, learning kanji and grammar, fighting through light novels with Yomichan and shit. It was fun. Now I just consume Japanese passively and my "learning mode" goes to German.

I don't mind the heat so much, as long as there's shade, or trees, or even just grass to absorb some of the heat. It can be pretty fucking brutal if you're walking in a parking lot of something though.

This is a really important question: How to maintain your TL once you get married/have kids?
Being a polyglot (6-7 languages) is impossible if you are married and gives weirdo vibes, so I won't do that.
However, as you may know, I am learning Mandarin now and it'll be the only foreign language I'd learn besides English.
I won't marry a Chinese girl, at least I don't expect to, I don't know life, but if I marry let's say some average woman and she'd be like, oh my husband literally learned Chinese without needing to live there for fun, what kind of a fucking weirdo autist he is?
Am I overthinking this? Can I just tell her it's my hobby and be done with it?
I am going to learn Chinese(Mandarin) so I can have fun, fuck around in WeChat, befriend Chinesebros, watch Chinese movies, check Chinese news, just become a consumer of Chinese stuff out of curiosity, maybe play Chinese games or something.
I wouldn't tell anyone I am doing this, for some reason everyone that found out I am learning foreign languages gave me this "But why? it's useless" looks.
>>
My English is taking a shit today, idk why I am writing like an A2 but you get the point... How to explain learning a random, exotic language like Chinese to people IRL?
Not your coworkers or some random bloke they can fuck off, I am talking about people you care about.
Hey wife, I am gonna do some Chinese input today.

I think your best bet is to date an educated girl. Not even someone with a formal university education, necessarily, but someone who appreciates learning. A woman who loves chess will probably appreciate a man who is interested in life-long learning, whether he's studying foreign languages or just wants to write poetry.
>>
>>197069970
My best bet without context would be that it involved expanding the size of the road, either to two directions if it was a one way or doubling the lanes
>>
>>197069970
It sounds like they meant to say "dualling", which means adding a second road for traffic going in the other direction. Like in my picture.
The author probably confused "duel" and "dual".

You are man, Jordie, yes? If your wife gives you shit about what you do with your free time, you don't have to explain yourself, you can just bitch slap her, maybe even legally kill her in your country and then marry 3 other wives that are more supportive with your goals.

English doesn't differentiate between a person who does something and a machine/tool that does it (the root of the "dishwasher" joke). Soulless. Not really a language learning thing, but hello talk has made me realize something I sort of already knew which is that I’m an extrovert, but have social anxiety.

also I pronounce a une like "a-t-une" which I think is correct for the liaison (like a-t-il) but do people ever really write it like that?
>>
I hate language youtubers
>>
>>197086756
CAN YOU BE MORE SPECIFIC?
>>
>>197096803
the main rule for la liaison is that a silent consonant at the end of a word is pronounced when it is followed by a word that starts with a vowel. There's no "t" anywhere to be seen in "a une" so you shouldn't pronounce a /t/ liaison there like you should with, for example, "tout un". You still CAN apply a liaison in "a une" though, by merging /a/ and /u/ together so you don't have to pronounce both vowels separately.

Don't think too much about la liaison, your ear will get used to it and acquire a natural instinct for it. After you listen to lots and lots of spoken French you'll automatically pronounce la liaison in your head and out loud because without it spoken French is jarring and difficult to pronounce.

In the meantime you might want to consult this webpage when you have doubts: http://research.jyu.fi/phonfr/20a.html

During the last couple of weeks, I decided to rewatch some anime that I'm very familiar with with Jap voice and TL subs. This was to test how far my reading and comprehension skills have come. So far I have watched a bit over 30 episodes of One Piece and I noticed significant improvement in speed reading and "speed comprehension" (don't know if that's a thing, it's basically my ability to instantly comprehend long sentences that are more complex than what I'm used to). It was of course very difficult at first, an episode of about 20 minutes was taking me 40-60 minutes to finish because I was constantly pausing to make sense of what I was reading and to look up vocab. At some point, the time it took to finish an episode was shrinking noticeably, and I was concentrating on the story rather than TL subs.
I still have a long, long way to go before I can read TL subs as smoothly as I do with English and NL but this wasn't a waste of time at all. When I went back to YouTube videos to practice native content with TL subs turned on I was having an easier time following both voices and their subs on the screen. I feel like this will especially benefit my listening practice in the long term since it no longer feels like a chore to read and listen and lookup all at the same time.
For now, I'll pause One Piece (even though I am enjoying the experience with TL subs immensely) so I can focus on reading books and watching documentaries. I'll come back again and rewatch it or some other anime with TL dub instead.

>Heмнoгиe вopoны cдeлaли гнeздo зa нaшим oкнoм
"Hecкoлькo вopoн" OR "пapa вopoн" (if it's exactly a pair of ravens/crows), not "нeмнoгиe вopoны" (some ravens/crows). And it would be more appropriate to use "cвили гнeздo" instead of "cдeлaли гнeздo", as that's the verb that is more commonly used in this context.

Yes, I go through 135 new cards every single day. Been like this for a good month, though previously it was about 170, now it's reduced to 135 since I deleted the deck for common computer/internet related Chinese words, one for all Chinese counters, and some other stuff, since I had finished them all. Anki takes about an hour and a half of my day, on average.
It's actually a lot easier than it looks, English helps a lot with French and Latin, those two help eachother, I already know Japanese so Chinese works out very well(though I have raised my new cards from 40 to 60, which is something that I swore just a week ago to never do since it would get me too cocky). German remains a massive mark of shame and I do not possess the courage to look it in the eye. I fucked up hard with it and it was all my fault, I did the one thing I should know to never do, which is to ignore native content and eat myself up with graded readers and Anki. Then I bounced off of it and now don't have the time to get back into it. Very childish.
I do 日本語 and 重要古文単語 for fun, the former being composed of about 6200 kanji with all meanings and readings recorded. When learning the language I did not bother with the individual kanji and learned the words instead, now I'm going through them all because it's fun. Same for the other deck. Right now I'm learning Chinese, French and Latin, with a heavy focus on Chinese. I'm trying to interact with it often, playing Senren Banka, watching random shitty anime with CHT subtitles, lurking random otaku forums. As for French and Latin, I have to admit I do not deal with them much, which is mostly intentional. For French I watch a few episodes of anime every once in a while, but that's about it. I'll read Le Petit Prince soon. As for Latin, I already went through the first book of LLPSI a while back, I'll get off my ass soon™ and read either Bellum Gallicum, or the Vulgate if I get filtered by Caesar.

Not a fan of either of them. Ironically, despite its long history, Japanese literature still feels like its in its infancy. It's like it's in its pre-Hawthorne/Melville/Whitman years where all Americans really had was Brown, Cooper, Irving, Paine, and Franklin. If I had to pick out some good authors, they'd be Natsume Sōseki, Eiji Yoshikawa, Tsushima Yūko, Miyazawa Kenji, Ōe Kenzaburō, Sawaki Kōtarō, Fujisawa Shūhei, Endō Shūsaku, Edogawa Ranpo, Ōoka Shōhei, Furui Yoshikichi, Ishihara Shintarō, Taneda Santōka, and Yumeno Kyūsaku. Problem is, none of these authors are actually good enough to justify learning Japanese (for its literature). There just comes a point where you get sick of reading flaccid Japanese attempts at aping American modernism and French decadence.

Can't say, honestly. Everything I've read from the Edo and Heian periods has either been translated into modern Japanese or has included a copious amount of notes. I can say I love Yosa Buson, at least. Miyamoto Mushashi is pretty cool.

you can take guaraní classes for free in argentine universities
good luck finding anything to do with the language if you're not planning to live in a guarango-majority area where you'll be speaking in the language every day of your life, because indios don't read nor write and the ones that do do so in the white man's language.

not at all, they're both Altaic and the point where "Mongolic" becomes "Turkic" is very blurry (some form of Uyghur although it's debated which)
anyone who tells you that the Altaic family is "obsolete" or deboonked is a shill

Does anyone get fatigued with learning a language and start resorting to translating in your head after a while? I'm getting close the German A1 level right now.

globohomo made everyone want to date outside of their country/ethnicity and they're using language learning apps as a sneaky tool to interact with their unsuspecting target group to fulfill some race fetish fantasy or for visa hunting purposes or whatever. They know they have a chance to benefit from you once they start asking for whatsapp and shit

in that case use your own judgment. Do you actually want to further talk to this person or not? I personally wouldn't bother taking a conversation outside of a language learning app unless I see a potential of a nice online friendship

Yes, but not for the reason you think. Here's what's up:
It shows her that you're interested in her and you're putting in the effort. A lot of effort, even. More importantly, since you both know you won't understand most of it and the struggle is part of the point, it means you don't actually have to listen to her half the time and she can't fault you for it because you're trying so hard for her.

It's only good if she talks to you on your level. If you're clueless then that means a bit more effort on her part to use simple words and constructions, slow down her speech and use visual context when needed. For language learning it works pretty well, but sooner or later she'll get tired of playing teacher.

The "Natural Method" is a total scam. I've been studying Latin with Lingua Latina per se Illustrata and Duo Lingo and the only grammar I know is when I go to my friend who studied Latin properly and he explains the different inflections these resources completely don't tell you about.

>they're both Altaic and the point where "Mongolic" becomes "Turkic" is very blurry (some form of Uyghur although it's debated which)
This is pseudoscience. There cannot be any blurriness between different branches with more than ~2000 years divergence time, as languages become far different enough for dialect continuum to be possible. Altaic is "debunked" only in heads of wikipedia warriors and american linguists stuck with heads in their splitter asses, yes, but that has nothing to do with bullshit you're spewing

I've been learning Japanese for a couple of months and I want to move to Japan in the future, but I'd also like to learn Korean.
Should I start Korean now and learn them side by side, or will that significantly hamper my Japanese ability? I don't want to wait 5 years until I'm good at Japanese before I start Korean, but at the same time since Japanese is more important I don't want it to suffer from trying to learn both at once.
Should I wait until my Japanese is N3~ish before picking up Korean?
>>
>>197149775

There's some overlap but Japanese is a fucking slog that never truly plateaus. Commit to one or accept that you're going to be pretty bad (but understandable) at both. Japanese and another language or two might be okay but I wouldn't recommend it unless the other language is both on the easy end of the scale and different enough from Japanese that you aren't going to get things confused
>>
>>197149775
focus on your goal. if you aren't full of shit and this isn't just a phase, then your goal appears to be to live in japan. as you might have figured, not speaking japanese while living in japan is doom beyond imagination and you will either kill yourself or move back to the european island.
you've set a goal for yourself, now put a pin in it and take it seriously, no fooling around, no tricking yourself into believing you can learn two languages not in the slightest related to any language you speak (seeing as how they both are pretty much isolates — altaic fags need not reply), just because "one uses a nifty, easy to learn script". no, you cannot. you are not that guy. not a problem, the fewest are that guy. you are most certainly not.
focus on japanese, this will keep you occupied for months and years to come. don't arrest your progress before it even became such.
not trying to be mean (maybe it sounds like it, sry, bad social skills + german), but don't fuck yourself over.
korean is cool and so is japanese, but if you're at least half serious about it, you will need to stick to one. not even "a bit of italian on the side", you hear me?

and tips their hat
