Went to Ireland to meet my Irish ex-gf and her family twice, but other than that, I've never left the country and don't really have any intentions to unless something changes in the next few years.

How'd you like China?

My uncle was working in an executive-level position in Shanghai for a while. I'd been planning to visit him, but he left during the pandemic and hasn't been back since (although he's still somehow getting paid his regular salary, despite not seeming to do anything except attend irregular online meetings).

I wish :(
I can afford all my needs, but travelling is a luxury for us average thirdies. I really really really want to do a roadtrip in US & Australia with my bike!

very comfy, but this was pre-covid and a lot has changed since then.

That's fair. I wonder how relevant COVID still is in China.

I lived in India for much more than a year, lol.

To make a long story short: I visited India for the first time while in college. I didn't really like it (but didn't hate it, either). I ended up having a strange urge to return, and took another trip the following summer after hitchhiking most of the way from London to Istanbul. Met better people, made friends, traveled all over--ended up going back again and again and again over the years, and doing much of my graduate-level research on an India-specific topic.

I also married an Indian and obtained residency through her, so I stayed back for a few years before we came here.

>>199001450
I guess I could've seen it going either way: still living with masks and a fuck-ton of rules, or not giving a single shit.

>>199001470
I was never in the military, senpai. I went to Iraqi Kurdistan and--very briefly--Mosul. This was all pre-ISIS.

I have a few European friends who traveled there on tourist visas (without being subject to the same restrictions as American visitors). Everybody's only had good things to say about the people. There's also tons of history, and it seems to be a fairly scenic country.

>Brazil
I've been to two countries in South America and most Spanish-speaking countries in North/Central America--why not Brazil? Language will be harder, but I sincerely doubt I'm going to run into problems there that I wouldn't have in Colombia, Honduras, etc.

if you are planning on going to Rio de Janeiro, just don't, dog shit and scammers everywhere and you can't go at night without risking getting robbed, if you want to visit Brazil try Florianópolis for beach focus or Salvador for history focus

I liked living in both countries quite a lot.

I'm fluent in Hindi--I started taking classes when I was an undergraduate--and learned Turkish to the B1 or B2 level while there. Being able to communicate fluently in India, and have basic conversations with ordinary people in Turkey, added a lot to the experience. Really great people in both places, and far less hassle than most folks think.

I think this should go without saying for people who aren't unironic /pol/tards, but India is actually a very, very pretty country. The cities can obviously be quite dirty--they usually are--but many parts of the countryside are incredibly beautiful. And that's where most people live--IIRC, about 70% of Indians are still considered "rural."

The same holds true for Turkey, though Turkey is much cleaner. Probably one of the most beautiful countries I've visited. Fucking entire place is just covered in mountains.

Thanks, anon. I didn't really have much interest in going to Rio to begin with--I'd rather check out Sao Paolo, some of the other coastal cities, and maybe make a foray into Amazonas.

If you don't want to go abroad, then don't. There's more to life to travel, and if you don't have any desire to go anywhere, then there's really nothing wrong with that IMO.

I've been pretty well everywhere for work. Which is actually crazy to think about based on how young I am. Been to every continent, pretty well every major ecozone—deserts, jungles, archipelagos, steppes, etc., Yet as someone who's lived his whole life in BC, I've never had the opportunity to go to the States nor Mexico.
I would like to visit Africa a little more, since I've cumulatively spent the least time there and in some of the... least nice spots. Somewhere like Botswana, Ethiopia or Namibia.

São Paulo is really similar to New York, and it has tons of history too, but it's a land locked city, so if you are going for beaches, I'd recommend Guarujá, never visited it, but our current president was once arrested on corruption charges over a triplex there, so it has his seal of approval

tho keep in mind that just like New York, criminality there is also pretty high too and the main city is polluted as shit too, so avoid going out late at night and always stick to populated areas (even at daytime, I almost got mugged by a crackhead at 15:00 once)

Amazonas is really good and very local stuff too, like indigenous traditions etc., just again watch out for criminality, make sure you've got vaccines (recently invented dengue, and yellow fever) and stick to the tourist spots when seeing the river so you don't take the risk of getting turned into a Live Leak video by pirates

I lived in Argentina for 5 years when I was a child, the rest have only been short-term vacations, I like Norway and the Netherlands too much, but where I most want to go is Brazil, India and China, I hope one day I can live in those countries for at least 1 year, I find their cultures really fascinating.
