Why do thirdies like this fictional character so much?
Because >poor migrant>got money by selling drugs >got a blonde gf>the world against him >died with a weapon in his hand
>>217940465The American dream o algo
>>217940465just like me fr
>>217940434High T, you wouldn't understand
this is the only gangster movie that didn't put me to fucking sleep
>>217940434Because they're too dumb and brown to understand that Tony Montana is supposed to be a negative character who ruined the lives of everyone around him due to his pettiness, a portrayal of the lowliness of a mafiosoThat goes completely over the head of thirdies, who just look at him and go>Dude he's so cool, he's literally me!
>High T, you wouldn't understand
He's us
>>217941122It’s not just thirdies who are like that. Most people on 4chan look at Patrick Bateman and want to emulate him as well not understanding that the movie is a caricature of yuppies and consumerism
>>217941122That doesn't make him any less literally me
>>217941122>>217941237>NOOOOO you lack media literacy! You‘re supposed to hate this character, not like him!
>>217941237100% this. I'm glad 4chan moved past its "sigma male" phase (with the exception of the downies on /pol/) because that shit was so cringe.
>>217941237I don't Batemanpost and i don't like American Psycho all that much, but desu that's a little bit differentBatemanposters usually recognize that the movie he comes from portray him in a bad light, but they make a conscious decision to appropriate him anywayBrowns are legitimately too dumb to understand that Tony Montana is supposed to be an unlikable asshole, they look at the movie and think he's supposed to be cool and relatableThey're not appropriating him out of spite, they're doing that out of retardation
>>217941280Liking antiheroes and villains is one thing. Literally liking the characterisation of how empty, soulless, meaningless and lonely consumerism is, is just retarded. It’s like when people like the main character of Drive and identifying as «I’m literally him», not realising the irony in that the whole reason that character acts the way he does is because he was raised by being placed in front of the TV and is unable to have normal interactions with people because he only acts and respond like «TV people do» (at least that’s what the director and Ryan Gosling himself said was the intention behind the actor).
>>217941357Fair, i agree that there is a level of «irony» involved in batemanposting
>>217940434I like it because 1980s Miami, the clothes, the music. The atmosphere is magical.
