I don't get why people say you should learn one thing at a time (i+1) but turn around try to learn two things at a time (how a word sounds and what it looks like). It seems to me the best way to go about it is practice listening until you're able to phrase words (as opposed to a train of gibberish). Then when a word won't stop announcing itself to you all that's left is to remember what it looks like. I think the main problem is that it feels like you're not making gains so you stop paying attention. But again focus on the fun. If its boring swap it out.
