Has Ryukishi ever commented on the console releases and how 95% of the normie audience he loves so much pretty much treats his original art as a complete joke to be laughed at? I have heard he helped with Beatrice's voice actor and corresponded with the guy who wrote Miotsukushi so I guess they weren't total soulless cash grabs but I do wonder if he has any thoughts about them functionally replacing his own work. Can't wait to play Ciconia on my Playstation 8 when I'm in the retirement home.

Weak.

>>50179067Yeah, there were a bunch of interviews alongside the console releases with R07 participating. https://web.archive.org/web/20140724014720/http://dengekionline.com/pr/higurashi/05a.html#03>--For the port, major changes were made not only to the character design, but also to the system, such as adding options.>Ryukishi: I was the one who asked for those changes, including the illustrations. If it was too perfect a port, people would just buy it and put it on their altar, never opening it. Besides, if we were going to port it anyway, I wanted to make it a work that would appeal to people who hadn't played the original.>Kanou: Regarding the choices, I thought a lot about how to make them more interesting. Most ports have negative aspects. I think it starts from there. There are restrictions like, "This kind of expression can't be done on a consumer device," and various elements gradually disappear. But I was hooked on Higurashi even outside of work, so I absolutely didn't want to just cut and subtract. I played it for three days straight, and I was so scared at night I couldn't sleep (laughs). So I thought long and hard about how to make it something that adds to it rather than just removing content.(...)>--So, Ryukishi, what are your thoughts on the new scenarios for the PS2 version?>Ryukishi: Wow, they're all pretty gruesome. When I was talking about the plot with Kanou, I thought, "This guy has some great tragedies in his head!" (laughs)>Kanou: Is that meant as a compliment? (laughs) It's true that as I was writing them, trying to make them really scary, the characters gradually went from being normal to being abnormal (laughs).>Ryukishi: The "love triangle story" was good because it was gruesome. But if you read that, you won't be able to read the parts where Rena and Keiichi are having fun in the same way, so we scrapped it.>--What was the content of the scrapped scenario?>Kanou: To just tell you the synopsis, a love triangle breaks out between Keiichi, Rena, and Mion, which leads to ■■■■■■■... and in the end, Rena pours gasoline on the school building and sets it on fire, saying "I'm sorry." It's a tragic story.>--Finally, the original PS2 final chapter, "Miotsukushi-hen," replaces "Matsuribayashi-hen"...>Kanou: First of all, the title is based on the word "miotsukushi,", it means the sign a ship sees when it arrives at a port, so it evokes the image of a goal. It also references another kanji called "miotsukushi," which means "giving oneself to another," as it appears in the "Manyoshu." It basically refers to the act of doing something for someone, a kind of compassion. I chose the title to incorporate these two meanings. As for the content...I can't really say much, but it's based around the initial concept of "Matsuribayashi-hen" and is the script we had the most meetings for, so I think it's put together well as the conclusion to this long series.

If we make one quasi-supernatural assumption that parasites inside Rika can work as a supercomputer modelling and predicting events, is it possible to place the entire story of Higurashi within the mystery genre? So kakeras are just something Rika is imagining in her head as consequences of her actions.
>>50186316Adding to that. Phantom memories other characters experience is them borrowing deducted data from Rika's hivemind. The "point of restart" keeps moving forward in time because it takes time for Rika to process each new kakera - modelled timeline.
>>50186316>>50186379Anti-fantasy GODS
>>50186316>>50186379Mei's story finale actually had Miyuki trying to debunk all supernatural events from Higurashi to deny one of the main antagonists of the story. But, yeah, she used a similar argument. Looping = delusion from hinamizawa syndrome virus. Knowledge obtained from looping that should be impossible is due to shared connection between the virus (like how the infected are influenced by the "Queen" virus within Rika, so it should be theoretically possible to share other kinds of information, including full shared delusions, explaining two different people knowing about the same "other world").Although, really, I don't think a sci-fi virus is really part of the mystery genre. And it's weird to try to deny fantasy by resorting to a basically magical virus.
>>50186316>>50186914>>50187135The border between light sci-fi, science fantasy and fantasy are very thin. But all can be brought into mystery.
