As long as each game tells us a story with six bosses causing an incident, there doesn't need to be anything bigger. Arguments like this annoy me, because they seem to always come from secondaries and nogames people, who don't even play the games. It's like how people kept shitting on Megaman 4-7 despite not even playing them, because "the story was stupid". The manga only really exists to supplement the games and make the world more vibrant. Only FDS has been living a life of its own. And arguably Touhou has been becoming more story-heavy over the years. Just compare the amount and style of dialogue before and now.
