here is my knife, its a mora robust pro II or something. i scraped tiles with it covered in phosphoric and citric acid then used it to open salt bags, i sometimes hammered into concrete but it did also do well with forcibly removing screwed/nailed wood in a pinch. i also used it to cut things like: tile fillings, sheet metal ventilation covers, steel wire nets, debur edges off metals and cut through bitumen roof covers whilst heating it up with a blowtorch.

I first saw a Gerber at scout camp, one of these bad boys. The kid who had it was very proud of it, eyes of the sons are on the idols of the fathers sort of thing. I thought it was strange to have the name of baby food, but very cool looking.

So I had to get myself a Gerber, having heard of their legendary reputation at camp. My friends got some of these before I could get a Gerber, we thought they were the coolest, but the screws would tend to come loose.
I eventually got a flipper with probably zytel handles, and that thing was rock solid. I even used it as a wedge jacking up a car as a dumb teenager. Can't find a pic. Carried it all through high school. (Not at school.)

Later on, I would buy the ultralight LST (light, slim, and tough). It was small enough not to scare the women at work, but only really good for cutting tape and plastic, so I got the regular LST, which could process cardboard and heavier tasks and still didn't scare people.
>>
>>61427903
My lst had a weird grind that took forever to sharpen away to get it sharp.
Before that I had a few of these but the screws required frequent adjusting. The clip broke off my last one so I just kept it in my pocket and lost it that way.

LMGs are always weaker than rifles in FPS games. Even if they shoot the same caliber as the rifle they always do less damage. Usually to counterbalance more ammo and rate of fire.

explosives are always a mixed bag in FPS games. Rocket launchers do a ton of damage against armor but you need a direct hit to kill infantry with almost no splash damage.

The CRKT knife (called the cricket knife) started to get some buzz. Very popular with the military because they were sold in the PX. I got myself a modest M16-03Z. The M16 line was designed by Kit Carson, who is claimed to have invented the flipper. The thumb studs would always come loose, so I got some loctite for that.
AUS-8, gets a little rusty for stainless steel, but for some reason gets a wicked sticky edge on a cheap sharpener. Also featured in many M16 knives is the auto-lawks, an automatic safety switch that keeps the knife from folding up on you during use.

Which brings me to James Williams CRKT knives. James is a great salesman and that is either because he is a White Samurai master or a great salesman. He designed the Hissatsu knife for soldiers soldiering it up over in the Middle East. CQB type stuff. No guard because it can catch on clothes and gear and it doesn't match up with his philosophy of use. It was created to filet the enemies of freedom worldwide.

Then SOCOM came to James Williams and said, "We like the Hissatsu folder, but could you make it bigger, slimmer, with a deep carry clip and able to be opened silently?" And so now we have the Otanashi Noh Ken, the "silent sword" that doesn't come into contact with the opponent's sword in battle. It has plain LAWKS instead of autolawks and is completely manual.
>>
And last but not least, the Spyderco Military. Designed by Sal Glesser as a cutting tool for the military (not specifically as a weapon.) This one comes in M4 steel which was originally developed as a high speed steel for drill bits (it won't deform due to heat while drilling.)
The Military is very ergonomic and fills the hand and is great for work.
>>
>>61428209
One great innovation by Spyderco is the opening hole. It serves the same function as a thumb stud without getting in the way so you can use the whole blade.

The Axis lock and its derivatives is the best thing on the market, all things considered. I’ve got enough experience, samples, manufacturers, and user feedback on them that it’s no longer anecdotal. Them failing? I’ve literally never seen it, ever. The Spyderco lightweights like the Manix LW and the BM Bugout, which hardly fucking counts, can have HANDLE failures where the lock essentially breaks free, but that’s not the same thing.

Two thinks can happen with axis locks that are bad. If you have a heavy blade and you flick it REALLY forcefully, you can have the rebounding blade outrun the omega springs and fail to lock open. Skill issue. I’ve never had this happen and I carry the largest axis lock ever made as my EDC, and have for many years.

The other thing is that in some grip styles where ones thumb is on the side of the grip, the user can unlock it themself. This is a bigger problem on lockbacks, which should tell you it’s not a very big problem. Apparently the designer of the BM AFCK was REALLY unhappy that they switched from liner to axis without telling him because he advocated that kind of flat bladed “fighting” grip. Also a skill issue. Don’t be a larger and you’ll be fine. The Axis is taking over the market for a reason, and ERs aren’t filling up with 9 fingered men. It’s faster than an otf auto and to fail the blade or the handle has to actually BREAK. I literally won’t carry anything else for my edc.

Also, there aren’t any ZTs I’d currently advocate, I don’t think. The knife I posted above was a Hogue.

>>61428335
Exactly. The Hogue Deka was really cool…. Until I saw one. I have a problem finding knives I find large enough, so I included the reference for scale.

Omega springs do fail. That seems to be on a weirdly knife to knife basis. In 25 years of using axis locks I’ve broken one, once.

My father has a 943 he broke almost a dozen omega springs. It’s so weird.

That being said, you have to lose BOTH springs at the same time for the lock to not work, and they’re available on eBay and Etsy for pretty cheap. Word in the BM forums is the Etsy ones are actually a bit stronger and stiffer than the BM ones.

The springs are a consumable, so that’s not really what I was thinking. Easy swap.

It's a major flaw in the design that should be corrected and an Axis lock is not a plus for me. It works well but at base it's four separate parts to make a lock instead of two which means 2x the chance of failure

i fuckin love these i have been wanting to order a second one for years. it's so concealable and sturdy enough to use karabmbit style reverse grip that would utterly devestate someone who didn't see what they were about to grapple with

i have debated trying to find a thumb stud that fits the screw for years, if anyone knows the size of screw or where to order one that fits i would appreciate it

here's a different style cheapo worth picking up a couple of as well:

https://www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/hand-tools/utility-and-hobby-knives/2835106

I bought 5 of these to give as gifts but kept 2

these don't ride int he pocket well at all but they're really heavy duty and would awesome for defense.

i prefer the boxcutter you guys posted though because it's way more concealable and metal construction despite being a lockback would be sufficient for the blows yu'd expect to deliver with a knife like that. also you can clip the small box cutter to the cusp of your sleeve cuffs and look like you're not holding anything or just be hanging out in your little coin pocket as an auxillary blade

Cars have more parts than unicycles, too.

Linerlocks and frame locks wear out, and are frequently built in a way that force on the back of the blade causes them to close. Back locks and mid locks rely on unlock pressure that can be applied during hard use.

Have your personal preferences all you want, but the chance of failure in an axis lock is the lowest of any of the lock varieties currently popular on the market. (Barring maybe the compression lock, which I don’t have enough data on)

Looks that way, I only have fixed pikals but from the looks of the Fox one, it's got an Emerson type catch on it but it looks like you need to hook the back and not the front which is more common with the Emerson Wave. I'm not a fan of finger rings either, I like nice and simple with the least amount of points of failure.

Emerson do a pikal but like all their knives the asking price is kinda retarded for what you get and I think they're discontinued or just really rare these days.

are you homeless anon? a box cutter can function as a weapon, but an actual knife is better in literally every dimension. you're basically trusting your life on an improvised weapon that is way more likely to break or fall apart on you in some way if subjected to the kind of force you might expect it to experience in a fight.

Scales are a solved game and the solution is unironically GRN. GRN is cheap, strong, light, impact resistant, weather resistant. It is the future today. I only buy folders with partial liners and GRN scales. If you need more than that, you're probably gay and lying, but if you're not then you should be using a fixed blade anyway.

They seem to normally hit almost three bills in user shape. I'll have to see what the second one looks like when it gets here. First one is in the DVD pic.

Within the normal Seki production run are you aware of any manufacturing differences to the knives themselves? I see slightly different grind errors and changes in how the markings were stamped but nothing major. I can't tell from photos if older ones were slightly more leaf-shaped.
>>
>>61435494
I don’t recall seeing any variations in blade shape. Slight differences in the width of the serrations and some surface finish differences on the pommels, but nothing so severe as to warrant differentiating them.
Primary difference in adds is sheaths.

How are Fiskars outdoor tools? I'm looking to get a bunch of new tools for brush clearing/firewood chopping etc and while at The Home Depot™ I saw a Fiskars hatchet that seemed to be rather nicely balanced and super lightweight, but more importantly, I noticed it's made in Finlan :DDDD
(previously I just assumed it was just more chinkshit because I thought it looked like shitty plastic handles, but it's apparently pretty decent fiberglass)
>>
>>61441242
I'm a fan of their x27 for splitting firewood. I have their 6 pound maul as well but the x27 gets more use, it's almost half the weight. Ive missed and smacked the handle on logs plenty of times and the fiberglass handle is great. lifetime warranty too. I can't really speak about their other products though.

>>61441242
I also have a Fiskars hatchet, it's performed admirably for taking down small trees. Mine's old though, I've heard they've gone downhill since then and the decline of Gerber's knives makes me inclined to believe that. I often recommend Ontario's machetes but the aerospace nerd consortium that owned Ontario ran it into the ground so their stuff is hard to find now. Supposedly Ontario will be coming back under the ownership of Blue Ridge knives but IDK what to expect.

Tramontina and Imacasa are good options for machetes, especially if you want something other than the standard Latin pattern although the Latin pattern works just fine and can be found at Home Depot for like $20 these days. Condor makes a lot of cool stuff, they're a bit expensive these days but you get a quality sheath. Condor is currently making ESEE's kukri and I think that thing's great for $100, seems like a copy of Ontario's but apparently they were designed by the same person so I guess he just jumped ship with his design. I also have an ESEE Junglas and that thing's effective and just plain fun to swing around. Rinaldi makes a lot of good Yuro stuff in patterns that are kind of hard to find in the US, AFAIK byxco is the only place that sells them in any real capacity over here and unfortunately they've just downsized but they still have a good selection.

You may also want to look into a brush axe.
>>
>>61446354
OKC’s machetes were the best. Well made and well priced. There’s too many hundreds of dollar tacticool slab machetes for what should be a light, agile tool.
>>
>>61442024
No issues with mine. I barely touch the pivot. You can definitely accidentally open up the safety if you rub it against a surface the wrong way.
>>
>>61446535
thanks for the response
that's a little scary about the safety
>>
>>61442024
The plain 940 is such a great knife you don't need to crap it up being an auto. You can flick one open just as fast.
>>
>>61446390
No kidding, their budget machetes were arguably the best on the market for standard machete purposes. Their regular machetes are a little beefy but they still handle well and they were a great base for a poorfag falchion project.

I present you all with the following:
https://youtu.be/dg4qcdDba9w?si=sE7GYD-Jjpum5IJ8

How rich is he going to get from creating magnacut? Also it's kind of insane to think how essentially all he did is create a new recipe and it created a revolutionary steel. Granted he does have a degree in metallurgy, but still all he basically did was change the ingredients of already existing steels to create a superior product.

That being said, why don't you own a magnacut blade yet?
>>
>>61447473
>but still all he basically did was change the ingredients of already existing steels to create a superior product.
No. That is incorrect. He didn't change the mix, he changed the process of creating a stainless steel. That's why it's very corrosion resistant despite being under 13% chromium

>>61447473
He probably won’t see any real financial gains. The steel industry doesn’t really work that way. Bohler was like “yea! M390!” And Crucible was like “yea…..CPM 20CV…”
Ditto ATS34 and 154CM.

>>61448255
Because they are garbage. The Clash and the Volt and that whole era of Chinese plastic handled things was really the end of Kershaw validity in the space. That’s when ZT turned from their military wing to their unobtainable art knife wing too.
>>
>>61448255
Isn't that the zoomer stabber?
>>
>>61448844
>Because they are garbage.
Explain. Plastic handles isn't a valid argument. The liners are steel, and the only damage to the handles on mine are from when I used it as a bottle opener, and the metal cap scraped it a little. Still opened the bottle. The spring assist still works good as new, and the blade lock-up is rock solid. The Blade has virtually zero play when locked, either sided to side, or front to back.
>>61448859
No, it just looks very similar. The Zoomer Exsanguinator has a thumb stud instead of a flipper, and is yet to be positively identified as far as I know.
>>
>>61447473
>why don't you own a magnacut blade yet?
I will as soon as I actually get around to finishing my HT oven.
>>
>>61448859
I’m absolutely convinced the Zoomer Doomer 5000 is an mid-aughts Boker Magnum, but that doesn’t preclude it being sold as a Remington or MTech or Master piece at a truck stop or Sam Club. I’m legitimately looking, just to answer the question once and for all. The Clashis from that same era, so you’re on the right track, noticing the similarity.

>>61448987
Well, I mean, it’s not intrinsic TO the plastic handles that it’s a garbage knife, it’s more like garbage knives are frequently given plastic handles. That’s the era when Kershaw dropped the pretense that they were making products that competed with Benchmade and really leaned into competing with Gerber. Sub-100, very keen edges of very modest steel, tending towards the smaller side, cheapest beadblasted blade possible, no color options, usually no size options. This is also what Spyderco did to better effect with the Tenacious line, and let’s be fair, Kershaw and Spyderco and to a lesser degree Buck and Gerber really did drive Benchmade back out of the cheap knife space, and directly led to the termination of the Red Class BM line…… but your anecdotal experience is better than many. The way they were using a spring instead of a thumb stud for instance was as much a cost saving measure as a functional one. LOTS of those came back in short order with missing tips (certainly partially user error) or no longer deploying to the fully open position, and the lock on them exhibited some rocking, and didn’t engage consistently.

I will also say I sold a TON of Clashes, they were good AT THE PRICE.
>>
>>61449051
To be fair I have taken good care of my Clash despite using it heavily, and abusing it to a certain extent. Using it to dig in rocky dirt/cutting tree roots etc. I tear it apart, wipe everything down with alcohol, polish the brass washers, and put a thin layer of grease on the high friction parts every 6 months or so. Again, my only complaint is that it's very finicky to reassemble when doing all that. Do you have any thoughts on the Kershaw Blur? I was thinking about getting the S30V version since thats the closest thing visually to the Clash that they currently sell.

Sloppy? Mine has literally no play in the blade when locked. It's possibly the most solid liner-lock folder I've ever used. However, as I've said, I actually take the time to maintain mine. Polishing the washers, and tuning the pivot screw so it's just right makes it buttery smooth.

I have tons of knives, I got bored in the pandemic and it grew from there when all I had pre-pandemic was an Ontario Rat-7, SP-10 and ka-bar for my occasional camping jaunts. I don't even use close to half but I like knives and often post what I have in giant spreads because it seems a lot of anons like to see comparisons between different brands and styles for their own interests and potential purchases. I also have close to 30 guns, not as numerous as my knives but they're of varying manufacturer, style, action, caliber etc. Knife use, ownership and carry goes hand in hand with the gun and I don't know a single dude I work with who carries that doesn't have some kind of blade on them too, especially the ones who like to hunt.
>>
>>61451083
It’s boring. Which isn’t bad. I don’t like the long term performance profile of the Speedsafe mechanism. A year or two of use and they start stopping a hair shy of open and locked.

Grip inserts tend to come out.

Kershaw will fix either of those problems via warranty.
>>
>>61451964

Yeah, maybe $250 tops in Surefires. Even asked if he wanted more from me.

….. what were the flashlights?!

(Side note, that limited Contego is the second most faked Benchmade I see, after the 615-1401)

You made out like a fucking bandit. I have about 100 surefires, from Laser Products marked 3Ps, a stack of M4s, and the usual pile of various E2 variants, I wonder if dude has any more goodies to part with…..

C3-BK and a 6P LED Defender. Any you need? I collect flashlights but not Surefires so I gotta trim down.

So this 810 looks genuine from everything I've looked at, and the guy said he got both of them from Knifeworks. Only thing that I thought was odd is there's no (R) symbol on either Benchmade's logo, but I've also seen that in other pics online and the fakes usually try very hard to include the trademark. Any thoughts?

>>61457446
Some people stack silver. This nigga's stacking 200+ dollar flashlights for that SHTF lights out scenario, happily sitting on 20k lumens combined while the result of us are slashing wildly in the dark. Absolute flashmaxxing chad.
>>

Oh lawd, if you only knew. I'm flipping most of these these Surefires since they don't fit into my _actual_ flashlight collection.

I’m in the same boat as your sitting on a triple digit collection of lights and only ever using my Cloud Defensive stuff (and one Elzetta nightstand light)
I’m always tempted by M6’s because they’re so sexy, but, sadly, no. The only Surefire handhelds i still feel a need for is a Strider Knives marked M2

if screws are glued, heat them up via touching the tip of a soldering iron to the middle of the screw. not until theyre glowing of course, just heat them up a bit to soften the loctite.

>>61461829
that's because you are probably a zoomer that can't problem solve. I mean you can order the screws online from most hardware supply entities

I didn't except it to actually be glued. Throwing stars are retarded, but shuriken like picrel appear to have been used extensively because fucking thousands of them were found at historic battlefields. From everything that I’ve read and seen at museums in Japan, they were apparently carried by foot soldiers who would have thrown a handful at them at an enemy if for whatever reason they were forced to fight someone with their sidearm because they lost their spear or something. It makes sense to throw something at someone before you get within stabbing distance.

>>
>>61462433

They're actually pretty good, although they only got that way relatively recently. Where Texas really falls short is finding places to shoot, you either have to own land or go to one of the increasingly overpriced and overcrowded ranges near you and a lot of those ranges are disappearing.

I mentioned to you before that the screws weren’t glued on my Terminus, but they were tight as FUCK. And they use like the second smallest torx I have, so I can see how easily it would fuck up a bit or strip the screw head. But I really enjoy my terminus, I use it every day for work and it’s held up really well for a 40 dollar knife. What did you replace yours with when it shit the bed?

That's the point.

They were never meant to be le sekrit ninja death weapons. They were always meant to be a distraction so you had time to run away or draw a better weapon.

love this version of the Bailout. also cerakote is tougher than I thought. the coating doesn't immediately go to shit when you use the knife. the impact resistance isn't great but the wear resistance is nice.

I don't understand these knives, if the handle profile is thin you can't hold the knife properly. You can only line it up with your second knuckle in the pinch grip as though it was a straight razor.

You need a round handle to orient the blade knuckle forward, I'm sorry but you just can't hold your knife right any other way. Whatever kind of blade you have doesn't mean shit if you've got the wrong handle. The Mora shits on most of the knives itt simply because it's handle is rounder, and it's not even round

>You dig up an arrow head, you don't conclude people threw arrow heads at one another.
You're an idiot. Arrow heads and plumbata have obvious attachment points. Those shuriken do not have shanks, sockets, or any other method of attachment to a shaft or weight.
