WW2 was the best period for the US. I can't believe how bad they fucked up by not making the AGSU as cool

Gotta admit, I really appreciate the Israelis sticking to classic khakis rather than all this multi-cam bullshit.

The interwar era uniforms were better than the WW2 uniforms desu. Some academies and colleges still use them though.
>>
>>61427122

So may ways to define 'best'. In my opinion the best period was when uniforms became made of cotton instead of wool, and layering became meaningful. We have better materials now but the uniforms are still designed around the multilayer principle.

I think our pixel uniform has already become iconic and we will be using its variations for the decades to come
>>
>>61431591
In my dreams I see a Marine Corps patenting a MARPAT variant with the OCP palette calling it ACAPP (Any Clime and Place Pattern)

and then restricting all other branches and militaries from using it saying "original idea do not steal"

1960 and 2010 are best. A uniform is incomplete without a belt. What did they wear from 1990-2000 though?

To be fair, the Japanese undoubtedly used M1 Garands to dome marines in Okinawa.
>>
>>61431858

Lots of countries use Garands for ceremonial rifles. For one simple reason. Their weight balance makes them great for rifle drill.

They don't? Krauts still use the K98k, Italians mostly use swords for ceremonial purposes, and beretts, pretty sure finns use their RK-62, hungarians still use mannlicher m95s afaik etc.

1934-1943 Heer and SS fieldgray combat uniforms with studded jackboots and the LBE.
1880-1907 USMC Expeditionary uniforms with standup collars and virtually no standardized uniform items or insignia
1911-1922 Banana War USMC uniforms with montana peak field covers (essentially modern service deltas worn in literal combat).
1970s-1990s US Navy dungarees with trucker hats. So kino

Pre great depression US interwar uniforms are objectively the best looking uniforms. There is some wild alternative timeline where Mexico didn't have it's revolution, Porfirian Mexico accepted the Zimmerman telegram and we got a North American front during World War 1 and dump funded all the wacky over kill proposals for WW1 era equipment.

They've always been heavy on the slouthcore slobmaxx, but as a conscript army it makes sense. Color wise I like 60s-70s.

>>61429725
I know it's vogue to hate on vatniks or whatever the telogreika is called, but it honestly does look good as a winter uniform. It's more their summer uniform that I'm not so big on.

>>61429790
I wonder what the quintessential American soldier look will be for historians/popular culture in centuries to come. The notable thing is how what was iconic and symbolic for the culture at the time isn't what they become known for necessarily. We harp on the segmenta but the Romans liked something else for symbolism (muscled cuirass and pseudo attic). Just our archaeology and movies made it so. So I guess it'll depend on what the Technocratic Dominion of Lappland or the automatium of Neo-Sao-Paolo chooses in their simulated reality movies.

I'd figure the big contenders would be >>61432931 or WW2 though.

>>61435958
They look like a burlap sack with legs, so that's a pass for me. Blues-and-reds at the start of WW1 on the other hand are great

I personally really like austria's KAZ 03 uniform. Ultra practical while not looking like shit because of that, neutral colorway so civvies can wear it while outdoors and not look like a kid playing army, you can blouse your pants without any extra bullshit, and the boots are retardedly nice for how cheap they are. They're full grain cowhide, got a nice leather lining inside, and they're reinforced at the toe and heel.
Overall it's just a really good uniform for doing outdoorsy bullshit in

You know maybe less Frenchmen would have died in WWI had they not worn blue and literally any Earthly color. Then maybe, just maybe they could have put up more of a fight in WWII with that spare manpower
>>
>>61436640
Blue wasn’t a bad choice given it blended in with fog and the skyline
>>
>>61427151
worst part is that, through the power of make up, 14 year olds can be made to look 20 and 30 year olds can be made to look like they're 14
>>
>>61436676
Blue is a shit choice. A guy recently fighting in Ukraine even made note of how shit blue is on a trench warfare battlefield. I don't have a timestamp, but its in here where he says it.

A khaki uniform (still with red pants) was in the works when the war broke out but we didn't have time to set up mass production for it and we had a shitton of blue dye on hand, so we went with >>61436320 instead of pic related. Eventualy we adopted >>61435958 in the interwar period
