Looks cool I guess, kinda surprised I haven't seen it in more near future media like the g36 or the p90.

It’s a great, very accurate and reliable gun that unfortunately needs to be sent to Tommy built to be completely unfucked. I enjoy shooting mine much more than AR family stuff.

the best rifle you'r'e'e getting in leafland unless you either enslave yourself to the oil patch and subesquently hunt down the last decent deal on a G-uberwunderwaffendutschengewehr-36
one of the greatest mysteries to me is how the G36 of all the fucking guns HK makes, is basically Canada exclusive.

>>61434372
Very accurate for a semi auto, pretty cool/unique. The thumb hole isn't particularly comfortable and makes the safety gay to use if you have short wop thumbs like me, the new SL8-6 rail is too tall.
Overall for $1100 they're good target/varmint guns.

for its time maybe, nowadays pretty much any mid to high grade AR will shoot 1moa or better.

I agree completely, the AR15 is a freak of nature and does almost everything better than its peers.
The SL8 is also very accurate for a semi auto rifle. On par with an AR15 in its price range.

>>
>>61435672
Samefag. I can assure you, the juice is NOT worth the squeeze whatsoever. Infinite number of guns that does what it does but better and cheaper.

You only want one to get a G36 after sinking 5k in scalped parts and modders. They're neat, but if you don't autistically love the German polymer pew then you're a retard with more money than brains.
>>
Love my SL8. Deadly accurate.
Wish it was a G36, but still a sexy gun nonetheless I bought it right when they started remaking them. Great gun, will take it out hunting.

It’s a neat gun. The extensive use of polymer makes it feel kind of cheap and front heavy. The metal parts are very well machined, though, and I’m considering getting mine converted to a full-sized G36 clone.

This was the main reason I bought mine.

I really look forward to the future where every other gun has also had like 70 years of refinement from multiple gun companies and can become the best version of itself. We're really starting to see it happen with glocks now
>>
>>61434372
I’d get one if there was a way to make it look more G36 like that didn’t involve dropping 6k on parts and gunsmithing plus tip

>>61434372
Every time I see it I wonder why HK can’t make civilian G36s, they sell plenty of other ARs that look normal and then there’s this thing that still looks like it came out of the 90s, is it German autism or American import laws stopping them from unfucking this thing?
>>
>>61444623

>>

>>
>>61434391
It had a brief heyday popping up in Resident Evil 4, The Far Cry console remake, and FEAR in the early 00's. But they didn't stick around long in the "wow cool looking gun" zeitgeist for whatever reason.
>>
>>61434372
How do you pronounce it anyway? Is it ESS ELL ATE? Or Is it SLATE?
>>
>>61446295
When it came to games, the G36 was always put at second place to the M4. If it wasn't slightly inferior it was just made to act a little weird/quirky. It was always the deformed cousin, just as good but not as cool.
>>
>>61446319
I remember the G36C showing up in fucking everything around that time. But the full sized rifle always got the shaft. Unless it was jammed into the roster as the MG36. Loved that thing in Bad Company 2.
>>
>>61446396
iirc the mg36 was the meta in that game. I don't think they even padded the reload time, you basically just ran around with an infinite ammo stabilized assault rifle
>>
>>61434372
It’s neat but I can’t imagine even considering buying one unless it were below $1,000. Most I’ve seen around are something like $1300 - $1600. Completely unattractive at that price point.
>>
>>61437863
>floppy charging handle you have to fish for
It's as easy, if not easier for me to actuate than an AR charging handle. Look at how high the rail sits and how much space it gives for you to reach in and grab the charging handle. You must have some really clumsy fingers if you'd describe that as "fishing."
>NONEXISTENT bolt catch
You don't know what you're talking about. The SL8 comes with a bolt catch in the trigger guard. The G36 has a newer version of that with an extended hook that allows you to use it as a bolt release too. It's a $60 part that can be purchased from HKParts and swapped right in.
>Also only takes single stack mags unless you pay Tommybilt a grand or two to frankenstein it
Again, you absolutely don't know what you're talking about. It's listed right on his website that he charges $235 to convert to doublestack, not "a grand or two."

Try being knowledgeable about a topic before you enter the conversation next time.
>>
>>61449577
Charging handle also locks left or right to act as a forward assist. It's pretty cool.
The bolt catch/release is overlooked by every fucking review on YouTube and shitposter on /k/ and it's infuriating.

You got the double stack info wrong though. That's the cost of labor, you need to buy a magwell and bolt as well. If you do everything yourself it's around $450 to convert.
That poster is a faggot though.

>The bolt catch/release is overlooked by every fucking review on YouTube and shitposter on /k/ and it's infuriating.
Overall the SL8/G36 is probably one of the most misunderstood and Fuddlore'd modern rifles. I want to reach through the internet and strangle everyone I see that parrots the "lol G36 melts like chocolate when fired" myth. I've owned five G36/SL8 rifles and currently have kept three of them. Love this gun too much to let people be wrong about them on the internet.

>That's the cost of labor, you need to buy a magwell and bolt as well.
I suppose I did forget to include the cost of parts, but that said, a magwell is like $30 last I checked, and a stripped bolt head is $200 direct from Tom. I had the conversion done for my XM8 a few years ago, but either way it can't be more than $450 - $500 for just the double stack conversion, parts and labor included. I had those parts laying around from a G36 parts lot I'd already had, so I just sent them in with the gun. Not sure what you mean by "do everything yourself" though. I'm not as equipped as Tom is to do this kind of work.
>>
>>61450142
I just bought the Hera arms aluminum ACR/AR15 stock lower and I'm going to convert it to AR mags myself. Honestly the ACR stock looks better on them than the G36 furniture (in my opinion) I'll probably use my magpul PRS for target shooting though.
I got 2000 rounds of AAC 77gr and I'll be shooting out to 800yds all summer. Should be fun.

Yeah that's for AR-15 mags.
>>
>>61450610
Do G36s take different mags?
>>
>>61450704
Yeah the magwell is a push pin away and removing a rollpin that holds the mag catch in to convert to AR15 mags, put the rollpin, spring and mag catch back in to convert back to G36.
>>
>>61434372
You can make one into an XM8 for shits and giggles.

Yes, and you can replace it with the FBI version if you want a manual bolt release as well, makes it really slick to reload.

>>
>>61434372
unlike many guns which are bad on accident because the creators did not know how to make a good gun, this one was made bad on purpose.
>>
>>61441945
Just not enjoyable to shoot. The selector and end of the charging handle are all fidly plastic that feels like the interior of a Japanese car. The handle is also plastic and has solid, sharp edges in the back, which makes it uncomfortable to shoot for long periods. It's also heavier and has more felt recoil than my bargain-bin bushmaster AR-15. The plastic mags it comes with are also a pain in the ass.

It works and it shoots, it's just not fun

Mine is the OG one like >>61434724, no idea what I paid because is was decades ago.
