It kind of worked for the Romanovs. They sewed their jewels into their clothes when they tried to flee and had to be finished off with rifle butts to the skull.

Do you mean the inserts? It might do okay there but isn't produceable. Kevlar is a fiber and isn't the preferred vest material these days (UHMWPE is). That said, if you're asking why you can't make a diamond fabrics, it's because we can't make diamond filaments.

Due to extensive research done by the University of Pittsburgh, diamond has been confirmed as the hardest metal known to man. The research is as follows:

Pocket-protected scientists built a wall made of iron and crashed a diamond car into it at 400 miles per hour, and the car was unharmed. They then built a wall out of diamond and crashed a car made of iron moving at 400 miles an hour into the wall, and the wall came out fine. They then crashed a diamond car made of 400 miles per hour into a wall, and there were no survivors. They crashed 400 miles per hour into a diamond travelling at iron car. Western New York was powerless for hours. They rammed a wall made of metal into 400 miles an hour made of diamond, and the resulting explosion shifted earths orbit 400 million miles away from the sun, saving the earth from a meteor the size of a small Washington suburb that was hurtling towards mid-western Prussia at 400 billion miles an hour. They shot a diamond made of iron at a car moving at 400 walls per hour, and as a result caused over 10000 wayward planes to lose track of their bearings, and make a fatal crash with over 10000 buildings in downtown New York. They spun 400 miles at diamond into iron per wall. The results were inconclusive. Finally, they placed 400 diamonds per hour in front of a car made of wall travelling at miles per iron, and the result proved with out a doubt that diamonds were the hardest metal of all time, if not just the hardest metal known to man.

Similarly, super-hard materials overperform in small arms as AP, even if they're less dense than other materials, so we might actually get diamond cored rounds.

Same shit with Marie Antionette. Hell there's the rumor that they raped the underage girls with their fingers, but it turns out they were looking for more jewels up the pussy when they were already dead.

It doesn't even make sense to make it communist propaganda. They actively suppressed it because some of the country wanted a return to the stability of the czardom. Kind of like when they eliminated religion, that doesn't mean everyone became atheist.

its only the strongest metal. why dont we make diamonds out of kevlar to make them bulletproof?

on a serious note, diamond would actually make a decent materical for trauma plates
>hard but brittle
thats the point of trauma plates. you use the hard material with a tougher backing and some layers of kevlar
would it be better than boron carbide? maybe not. extreme hardness isnt that important as long as its much harder than the bullet and boron carbide is a little bit lighter and might have better crack propagation properties (for multi hit protection). cubic boron nitride is easy to make and is harder and more similar to diamond, but its not used very much for armor
i could also see diamond-like-carbon being useful, maybe layered with some ceramic or metal because its easy to make thin layers of it and delamination like effects soak up energy

>>
>>61436619
Because strength is measured by the amount of energy the materials can consume before critical failure.
Ceramics and diamonds may be the hardest, but the energy consumed is quite low.
All strongest materials are metals. One would say Tungsten is strongest but here we face another problem. Tungsten is hexagonal. Hexagonal metals have limited slide directions. This means they are brittle and will fail quicker. Therefore strongest metal would be something like trip Steel as it can deform for long time while still consuming lots of energy in process

Big difference between high (>mach 2) and low velocity impacts aka pistols v rifles: you need ultra-hard material to fragment rifle rounds so they can be caught efficiently by stronger materials.

If your rifle armor is too brittle, it will just fragment (youtube the guy who tried ball bearing armor), but materials like kevlar need impractical thickness of like 2"+ to catch rifle rounds. So you really need multiple materials here; the hard shit breaks up the round, the softer backer shit catches its fragments.

Synthetic diamond, especially ones not made to be cut into jewels, aren't as expensive to manufacture as you might think.
I think I saw a pound of synthetic diamond, as in like not gemstones but diamond powder for industrial use, was only around $100, but I could just be completely wrong since that was just me seeing some listing on Amazon or somewhere and not actually looking at what the product was, so take that with a grain of salt.

And it seems to me that if you really want to make armor from diamonds you'd want to use diamond powder over some more soft material such as steel, essentially going for a super scaled down and thinner version of how battleship composite armors were made with a super hard but brittle outside and a soft steel or iron inner wall.
