Some drones have shaped charges, some are just plain frag grenades, and with a yard of standoff a frag shouldn't harm the passengers in even a lightly armored vehicle. People get a letterboxed view of this war because of how footage skews things, sure there are fancy custom FPVs around and that footage gets a lot of interest, but the vast majority of kill drones on both sides are still just dropping frags and mortars.

I'd assume that the purpose is to make it (slightly) harder for fpv drones with shaped charges to hit a specific spot? Hitting the engine compartment is "easy", when you can just bang your drone into it, but much harder when you have to angle your attack from further away.
