https://www.reuters.com/world/south-korea-romania-pledge-defence-cooperation-amid-reports-contract-works-2024-04-23/
>SEOUL, April 23 (Reuters) - South Korean and Romanian leaders pledged on Tuesday to boost defence industry cooperation as Seoul pushes to establish itself as the world's fourth-largest arms exporter amid reports of huge additional contracts in the works.

>President Yoon Suk Yeol hosted his Romanian counterpart, Klaus Iohannis, for a summit and pledged to increase cooperation in the defence industry, including joint production of weapons, a statement said.

>South Korea's defence minister Shin Won-sik separately hosted Poland's deputy defence minister, Pawel Bejda, amid reports of an impending contract for Hanwha Aerospace to supply additional weapons systems and negotiations over financing.

>South Korea's major defence manufacturer, Hanwha Aerospace (012450.KS), opens new tab, is working on a deal worth 1 trillion won ($725.7 million) to supply K9 howitzer to Romania in what would be the first defence contract with that country, the Korea Economic Daily reported this year.

>Last year the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Romania’s state-run defence company to export its K9 self-propelled howitzer and infantry fighting vehicle.

>Poland, which has been ramping up defence spending, has agreed to buy $22 billion worth of weapons from South Korea in the country's largest ever arms sale.

>On Tuesday, South Korea's Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported, citing defence industry sources, that Poland would sign a contract this week for 70 additional Chunmoo rocket artillery units worth $1.6 billion to be supplied by Hanwha Aerospace.

What makes its weaponry so attractive to the thirdies?

Cheap and in production so they get it fast compared to the lead times in european weaponry. You also can't use EU gibs to fund them so no reason to pay premium for European stuff.

SK makes good quality weapons systems. I hope that Japan can unfuck themselves, and lift their weapons export ban because they should also be in this business too.

We need to phase out shitty slavshit weapons from the world once and for all.

I'm fine with Turkshit and Koreaspam, if it means Soviet trash becomes an even greater indicator of ignominous poverty & exclusion.
I won't say "Slavshit" because it would be good to see Ukies get contracts post bellum too. Apart from the T-84 Oplot (may it sleep forevermore) their stuff is the balance of simple & functional that Soviet trash is supposed to be.

But the Great and Mighty Dragon of Heaven... how far will perfidious Chainah seep into the gaps...

>Turkshit

Turks have too much corruption, too little quality control, and they need more work. there's been huge problems with their 50 cal machine guns sent to Ukraine, and many of their firearms have quality control issues. They are positioned to be a good arms exporter but not yet. You unironically need more democracy and development to get higher quality, and Koreans are perfect for that.

Ukraine is in the position to take the best from Soviet designs (namely missiles and rockets) and to improve upon them.

I would like to see Turkey's M60 MBT program expanded though and to see if they could ship some to Ukraine for field testing.

If they're BUYING this means they'll have more to give Ukraine right? Typically a buying spree means they clear out all their old Soviet era material and give a small amount of new material as well.
>>
>>61483646
Give what, the Romanian stockpiles are hot garbage.
>>
>>61483725
Something is better than nothing. they can also send material to a third party to be repaired or upgraded before being sent to Ukraine. Ukraine needs quanitty more than anything. Romania already donated their stored T-72s to Ukraine, so anything else helps.

>omg we’ll lose the entire romanian market for the weapons we’re producing in artisanal quantities
Have you considered scaling up production? You know, so you can sell weapons to countries that want them without a decade long waitlist, especially with a fucking war happening in europe? It’s not some super advanced shit like f35 where states have no choice but to wait as there are no alternatives available.
The older I get the more I realize US truly is the only western country that matters. What a fucking joke Europe has been since 2008
>>
>>61482486
I can read German without a translator. It says exactly what the anon says it does. It says little about marketing, only the fact that losing Romania as a client will hurt, which is obvious - you want every country in yurop buying your shit so they’re locked in, not shopping around half a world away, even if it’s smallish countries like Romania (but then so did Poland and they’ll spend a lot of money that should stay in EU, but won’t).
I’m looking forward to seeing how I misunderstood the source, since you clearly seem to know more about the topic.

Not just thirdies, the k9 has a 50% global market share on 155 sph

>>
>>61488560
>accounting for over 50% of the global market share of artillery SPH platforms, with approximately 1,800 units in service
Over half of those are just in Korea and aren't actual exports. If we are merely talking about in service units as market share then that number isn't even accurate. The M109 has probably double that amount in service around the world and has double the exports.
>>
>>61488727
>4 frontline NATO countries
>will never see legitimate conflict

Top 10 largest M109 users
>US 514 A6 + 231 A7
>Greece 51 A1 + 84 A2 + 273 A3 + 12 A5
>Pakistan 200 A2 + 123 L + 115 A5
>Egypt 164 A5 + 163 A2
>Saudi Arabia 177 A6 + 48 A5 + 87 A2
>Israel 250 A5
>Taiwan 225 A2/A5
>Jordan 199 A2
>Iran 150 A1
> Switzerland 133 KAWEST
So the top 10 operators of the M109 have 3,199 active M109s. There are still about 2 dozen operators that aren't listed and some of them still have 3 digit numbers, so how can the K9 have a 50% market share when your metric is in service vehicles. You could eliminate the US as an operator entirely and the M109 actively operating exports would outnumber the K9s entire production run and even future sales.

Oh yeah I also left out South Korea with 1180 M109s which is more than the number of K9s they operate. The K9 doesn't even have a 50% marketshare in Korea let alone globally.

Now you are getting it. There are none. People buy the K9 because it's cheap so they can fill NATO quotas and they will never face any real threat.
>the 50% market share includes shit that has been on inventory for 50+ years
That isn't true at all because if we are talking about 50+ years back then M109 would go up another 1500 from the already 3500 in service vs the 1800 K9s which would mog it even harder.
>in reality the k9 is over 90% of all 155 sph new orders for over a decade and growing
It isn't though. Majority of M109 sales are post 2010

All these freakishly low-IQ (or just foolish) procurement moves by Eastern Europe. Shit like this keeps happening because no one can take charge and lead bureaucracies, ie it’s a leadership crisis. No one can or wants to make decisions so it inevitably collapses into lowest-common-denominator, shallow cost-benifit group-think consensus formation. Getting scammed by a corrupt Asian peasant labor colony is actually just a minor symptom of the leadership crisis.
