Last thread: >>62916553Said I'd only update if the thread stayed up, but I only just missed it and I want to thank Anon for the save. It took a lot of 3-in-1 and a lot more force than I was hoping to use, but I got the pin out and swapped my extractor! It seems much more reliable now. Unfortunately "more" in this case means it works (on dummies, hand actuating) about 30-50% of the time instead of zero, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought one of these, so I will take any progress I can get. In testing, though, I think I discovered a second half to the original problem: it doesn't seem like the ejector is capable of acquiring a round in battery. It works as long as each round feeds into the bolt face behind the extractor from above (as out of the magazine), but if that process doesn't go perfectly and the rim winds up in front of the extractor tooth, no amount of force will allow the shell to properly enter the bolt face. For example, you can never manually load the breach at 100+1 because the extractor will never mate with the round in the breach. Does anyone know if that is normal behavior for these guns? Also Calico general, for the one other person on this forum who owns one of these monstrosities
i own 3not sure why
>>62921089nice to hear it worked out, mostly at leasthow easily does the extractor actuate? is it sorta jamming in place as opposed to actually moving?it sounds like the tilt of the extractor combined with the pin's slant is making it go off-kilter to what its suppose to, like imagerelated maybe you can hire a gunsmith to redrill the hole for the retaining pin?you could also do it yourself if you have a drillpress & patience, i guess, but it would be better done on a quality lathe
>>62921089I salute you OP, before I got a 10/22 the Calico M100 was my wishlist .22. I like that sexy sporter wood on it.>ordered an M100, bipod, extra mag, and scope mount during covid>mailed them a fucking check because their website doesn't take card>got an email a few months later that they had a backlog and were "six months out">never heard backI love my 10/22 wit duh binary though. How's the M100 shoot? Are the mags reliable? Have you magdumped it?
>>62921089>doesn't seem like the ejector is capable of acquiring a round in batteryPull it back out and diagnose why it's not moving. Could be a burr around the pin hole, could be the pin got bent when hammering it in, could be the ejector is just a teeny bit too thick, could be a lack of lube (graphite) on the ejector or too much lube (grease) on the ejector.
>>62921201I have yet to get it to eject. It's possible with today's fix it will, but it's the dead of winter up here and I just moved and am not sure of decent shooting spots. Will probably try to find some place to test it next weekend, though.>>62921166The slot and pin share an axis, so I don't think that's the problem. The extractor moves pretty freely, but not quite as far as I would expect. It looked fine when I had it apart, but I may have to pull it apart again and see if something is getting in the way and stopping the extractor from opening all the way.>>62921211Will do, though I may have to wait as I live in an apartment and have neighbors who will not appreciate me hammering further into the evening. It does move, to be clear, it just can't open far enough to accommodate an entire rim from the front. That's what had me thinking it might be intentional design.
>>62921257Did the old extractor move far enough? Sounds like a simple clearance issue, could be as simple as a burr on the back of the extractor behind the pin preventing it from moving all the way.
>>62921269Hmm, looks like you're right, Anon. The extractor pin doesn't look bent, but the extractor rotates a lot further here when it's running on my (slightly smaller gauge) pin punch. Interesting.
The pin looks fine to me, but must be bent a little somehow
>>62921089calicos are cuteI wish I could find a scope mount for the 9mm, I don't wanna buy one from calico themselves
>>62921501I don't suppose you could take apart one of your bolts for me for a comparison? I've narrowed the problem a bit further down. I've found the extractor moves freely if I don't insert the pin only up to the edge of the extractor, and also moves freely if I insert the pin all the way, but remove this little ball bearing that seems to be acting as a spacer for the extractor spring (I found it sitting in the extractor spring hole). This ball bearing is clearly here deliberately, but I have noticed that it is absent from the M100 bolt diagram. Do you have such a ball bearing? Wondering if the previous owner put it in there to mitigate a shortened spring
